- CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -10/+150Ah ha! So there is an emo link to 9/11 after all...
- Haroldx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+139As long as embed tags are working, myspace will always be exploitable.

Because not everyone can always talk on the phone... and it's not about "hanging out" like you would at a park. I never wanted to be a part of that trashy site, but eventually did because many old friends are on there. I'm no longer in college, so Facebook isn't an option and no one has even heard of Friendster and the horde of other social networking sites. Also, many of these people aren't so good with e-mail (don't ask me why) but can easily grasp the messaging system of Myspace.
Myspace is basically AOL 2.0, but it's worth suffering through it so that I can keep connected to the friends that I -don't- get to see all the time or live far away. Besides, it's just another step to helping technology ignorant masses get a little more informed about how the web works. I've seen some of the most technophobic people tweaking HTML and CSS code on their profiles. Sure, they barely know what they're doing, but it's a start.
Blah blah... enough words. :) - volcomjerk, on 10/12/2007, -79/+165This is what ceases to amaze me... how stupid people are to sign up for something like myspace.com It's basically just a big ***** hole for people who like to stare at ads and browse an ugly slow website. Sure it's a place to talk to your friends and meet people but what the hell happened to calling each other up and heading down to the local liquor store and hanging out or the park?
Yet 99% of the teen population still goes there... retards. - hodyoaten, on 10/12/2007, -1/+78The Association of Emo Americans will be issuing a formal statement at 6 pm.
- djkickz, on 10/12/2007, -17/+69@volcomjerk
some of us use myspace for what it was made for, promoting out independant music to a wide audiance. - Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+50Someone post a myspace page that is infected for those who want to see, like me.
- bebop717, on 10/12/2007, -29/+73Finally one step closer to destroying myspace and shutting it down for good. Go hackers!
- reconciledthief, on 10/12/2007, -9/+45It's kind of like an STD. People could easily stop spreading it, but do they, no, they click in ignorance.
- bedlam, on 10/12/2007, -12/+46What a ***** douchebag. Like the police give a ***** about some emo kid's myspace page getting hijacked.
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33You forgot 7 different extremely loud rap songs about hos frontin on dis cheddah all playing at the same time without warning.
- hello2usir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33MySpace has been vulnerable to XSS for some time. I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33I will be waiting for their statement on this. Any investors who own AEA stock, SELL IT NOW!
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33This isn't a windows exploit, it exploits the site.
- Haroldx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29the guy who posted this on digg is the guy who made that "actual post"
- onemillion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27if you dont wanna be 'sploited, disable HTML comments.
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26mc7winkle: If you think you're presenting a good point and then start calling people *****, I'm boggled why you are surprised people are digging you down.
Also, people who complain in additional posts that they're being dug down are automatic douchebags.
You say it's the Digg system not working. I say it proves that it does. - ThirstyFerret, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25While we all like to have a bit of a digg at MySpace every now and again, please don't take out all your anger on it here. What you have there is a gross generalisation, and I'm sure that there are many people who enjoy and benefit from using MySpace.
Meanwhile, maybe MySpace and their users will get more "security savvy" now, and pay more attention to their security and stuff they have embedded rather than their javascript effects and flashing backgrounds. - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -9/+28Now the myspace whores have to go outside and get real friends.
- JamesMcEwan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19wouldn't myspace be a much nicer place if users weren't alowed to embed stuff anyway...so sick of animated gifs made to looks like glitter and 2000 youtube videos, followed by 500 windows media videos on one page...
- chaseathompson, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25I'm curious to know how widely this has spread thus far - when I last checked the blog that the redirect pointed to, there were close to 6000 comments that had been left. I imagine that this exploit is not just linked to that one blog, either, but to multiple ones.
Is Myspace's code just that vulnerable? - darkzealot89, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23Was going to happen sometime...
hopefully the myspace attention whore fad will end soon - Powerdrift, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I've been using Flash redirects to redirect people to my website :P
(on my friends' myspaces...) - ThirstyFerret, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Oh I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about MySpace being hacked, not perversion?
- ThirstyFerret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Flash sucks balls when used incorrectly.
It's perfectly good at high quality interactive games and the like, but when used for things like "shoot the duck" advertisments and flashing "download a new smilie pack" banners, it's not so good. - kevogod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Fox News is owned by News Corp, not CNN. CNN is owned by Time Warner.
- justinvt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I don't think most people here have a problem with the idea behind myspace. It's the implementation that bothers us. It could be way cooler and way more functional than it is.
- ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yes, thats all nice and good, but it doesnt change the fact that its just a link to his blog, so as soon as he makes a new post, this one will be burried. Linking to the actual blog post is better for people clicking on this story in the future. Not sure why that's so controversial.
- seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Why do 15 year olds who use myspace need to know coding? Myspace has nothing to do with coding unless you want to make your own template, which most people dont care about.
- PhilPrice, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I'd probably be a better thing if you didn't have a myspace profile at all...
- sunsetN!nja, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Maybe I'm missing something incredibly obvious here. How difficult is it to just, you know, not go to myspace if you hate it so much and think it's ugly? It seems rather simple to me.
1. If you see a link to myspace, don't click on it.
2. If you don't want to go to it, don't type in the URL. By taking these simple steps, you won't have to deal with pretty much everything here that people are complaining about.
I mean, are you people just happily going out on your normal computing when myspace jumps out of the bushes and forces you at gunpoint to go there? - Soniti, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Shut down Myspace? Like that would ever happen. Get your head out of your ass.
Myspace is here to stay, whether you like it or not o young digg teeny bopper.
~Soniti - PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I just browsed through dozens of profiles and couldn't find a single one that was infected. Yes, I have too much time on my hands but I was very curious to see this hack. Couldn't find it.
May have something to do with the fact that "Tom" temporarily disabled comments and messages half an hour ago. Maybe they've already fixed it? - lampshade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Is this the same XSS exploit that was in 2600 the magazine weeks and weeks ago?
- robbyt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8your post got a dig from me because it's the first one to address that the main point that should be paid attention to is 9/11!! not that ***** eye sore myspace!
Doesn't matter if you think 9/11 happened or not, there are several strange things that just don't add up... and we haven't received reasonable explanations for. - smartalecks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8What is the URL of the blog that is redirects to?
- noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Intelligent and provocative, badwolf77s comment demonstrates with striking finality the revealing of the beastly nucleus in what is supposed to be a ***** sapiens. In this striking creation, he draws us deep into the realm of the pack animal, where a person is reduced to "going after the girls", and where sexual relations are valued above intelligent. This comment is a must-read for those who enjoy National Geographic nature films.
- kinematic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Thanks - feel free to digg this then: http://digg.com/security/How_the_myspace_SWF_hack_worked
sorry for the shameless plug :] - volcompimp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Are Digg users that detached from reality? Everytime there's a myspace story everyone has a ***** fit and posts a flood of anti-myspace comments and how they're so cool because they're the last person on earth without a myspace.
Here in the real world, people use myspace and could care less if teens decorate their myspace to how they see fit because they are not on our friends lists. If you have no friends, thus don't need a myspace, I wouldn't be bragging about it. - VorpalK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10As far as I can tell, if you simply don't have the Flash player installed, you should be fine.
- eppitek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9can someone post a mirror image of a site that has been infected as well as the site is being redirected to?
thanks - thegoodknife, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6it would be ironic if there wasnt a digg post about myspace several thousand times per day
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@robbyt well I doubt anyone 'doubts 911 happened', but I know what you meant. People just dont want to talk or think about it. Its almost funny how fast their faces light up and how mad they get when you even imply any doubt over the governments story. Im still on the fence about the whole thing because alot of things that happened that day just dont make any sense, and when I say 'alot' I pretty much mean everything besides the planes hitting the two towers.
Unforunately there are too many things to point out in just a comment and doing so would take hours to compile everything. Just start looking into it there are alot of things that are just screaming to be explained still. Unfortunately the whole 'public investigation' is getting more complex because some of the 'evidence' is becoming more difficult to verify and distinguish from what may be disinfo. Also there are so many websites discussing this it is difficult to point to a single credible resource - if you know of one please reply with such.
I would not be surprised if these comments were not completely read and got a -digg anyway. So it goes. - kinematic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Had a look at it earlier, here's what I found:
http://kinematictheory.phpnet.us/
(there's no ads or anything, it isn't a blog, it's just a page explaining how the hack/hijack worked which I threw together quickly :) - will probably post this as a new article linking to it in a sec) - BitwiseMcgee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6djkickz: Better read that terms of service again, myspace _owns_ any music you put up on myspace for the duration its on myspace. They can do what they want with it. Sure, taking it down nullifies this, but its a pretty ***** TOS.
Get a real net label, there are hundreds out there that can distribute music for free. - CarlosReyes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wait.. so he actually did that?? Im sorry, but my brain is on Stand-by (i cant go into the UK right now.)
- Ashree321, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10I'm so glad the real issue was finally addressed! The article didn't even really address it. The 9/11 theory. A lot of people will say, OF COURSE the government isn't behind 9/11!! ...but all the "weird things" that don't add up need answers and our government refuses to give answers. If you dismiss these questions and attack the people that are brave enough to ask them you are ignorant. I don't say that to get dugg-down, I just feel it should be said, and if you are looking for a truth then questions must be asked and answers must be demanded.
Loosechange911
is a very good sight to read about these "weird things"
They made a documentary that I think everyone should at least watch before making an opinion.
NOTHING on this sight is EXTRAORDINARY evidence-- its all common sense!! that's what is SCARY!!!
I'm not saying I believe the government was behind every aspect of 9/11 but I would like to know why 9 of the hijackers are still alive even to this day? Why the twin towers fell at free fall speeds!!?? 10 seconds for a building made of reinforced steel and concrete is amazing! Did you know the twin towers were the first building to collapse from "a fire" (the governments reasoning for the fall)? Why did people in the buildings heard multiple explosions and explosions in elevators? How did the fire "traveled through an air sealed elevator system to "blow out the bottom level"?? How did multiple cell phone calls where made in an airplane where a calls chance of making it to the ground in the year 2001 was 6/1000?? Why, if the pentagon had NO sings of an airplane and was clearly hit by a cruise missile, were we lead to believe there was an airplane?? Why did people report having seen flight 93 (the flight that "hit" the pentagon) land in Cleveland and evacuate?
If the government has nothing to hide, (which I wish they didn't) don't they answer these questions??
Very V for Vendetta if you ask me...
"What if someone else were responsible for all those deaths. Would you want to know who it was? [...]That's the question I want to ask you. [...] If our own government was responsible for the deaths of almost a hundred thousand people... Would you really want to know?"
~V for Vendetta - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13What you should take from this is not that you should watch out for the hack, but rather GET OFF MYSPACE and get a life.
It is god-awful pathetic that people are now TOO STUPID to use E-mail, and have turned to MySpace's ***** public messaging system as an alternative.
If your friends can't handle E-mail (something that most 80-year-olds can now tackle), you should start re-evaluating them. Hurry. -

What is Digg?
