- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'll hold the website ransom... for ONE MILLLLION DOLLARS
- ipodhacker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4maybe it is just another way to promote the site. more traffic anyone?
- dodger2020, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@mikebeauchamp: *yawn*
"So the email says the site is "under U.S. attack". The grammar seems to be that of an average U.S. citizen as well.
"
No. Moron. The email says: "Hello u website is under us atack to stop the DDoS send us 50000$." In this case I would imagine "us" is equivalent to "our" since the sender was probably not an english speaker. Or at least was trying to not appear as one.
The ddos is probably real. However, I think the original poster is using this story to try to pump traffic to a copycat site to generate more hits for it. I guess when people can't come up with something original they'll take to copying what's popular. - miknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why is the FBI involved? Russia... Britain... hrm.
- IsraelTorres, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just noticed that the Original Poster is using "milliondollar-homepage.com" (fake) instead of the real site "www.milliondollarhomepage.com" (real). Not sure if it is intentional.. Just checked the article and it also references this bogus site... I smell conspiracy!
- kdehead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2bbc story on this
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4621158.stm
and the site wasnt hijacked - it was an DoS extortion racket. - lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2#HOSTS

Problem solved. - tempusrob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2s/ransom/publicity/
- udha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"The headline is completely misleading - the domain has not been hijacked at all."
Thankyou! and exactly right, the site has not be hacked cracked or compromised, any 14 y/o with more free time than sence could have done this. - Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://milliondollarhomepage.com/
Works for me.
I call either ***** or already fixed. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hijacked my ass, it's a plain and simple DDOS attack
- drewcurtis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it is back up now.
- x2dx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^^ I agree its a dos attack there not stealing nothing from him.
- PRAT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Since when did a DDOS attack on a website start becoming headline news ?
- Zonkzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow you can use whois. So what?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1God, some of you people are so annoying, infact the majority.
Most of you are kids complaining that the title is misleading, well, FT is economists and bankers, not some geeky kids. They probably wouldnt understand what DDOS is.
Also, Alex Tew has no reason what so ever to increase the traffic to his website as he is home free now and rich. He will probably be hoping the site decreases in popularity so that he avoids paying huge bandwidth costs which his site is creating.
I hate conspiracy theorists, wankers. - ergo98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How convenient - Just sold the last of the pixels, and now a bit of extra publicity to help placate the advertisers. Nice.
- myskja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Only two exclamation points...? I'm sure the story would be much better if it was three. Two is surely not enough.
- roostersheep, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Coming to think of it, we should have all seen this coming. So many people are jealous of this, and so many people are taking action.
- levyjl1988, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is dumb....and boring....no digg
- tgraham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The headline is completely misleading - the domain has not been hijacked at all.
- catullus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@naples, and to all who say that i made a mistake for saying "hijacked" RTFA, they use hijacked too
- bwidget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.sandvine.com/products/Sicklebot_01162006.asp has a dissection of the attack, showing which trojan was used, and which sites were used to control it.
- EAMUS1CATULI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just went to the site www.milliondollarhomepage.com its up and running..
- Blitzenn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Let me get this straight. A Russian hijacks a British web site and the American FBI gets involved? What does the FBI have to do with any of this? The FBI is supposed to strictly operate on American soil and deal with only domestic issues. If this were an international case, then the CIA would be involved, not the FBI. But I still do not see where the US FBI has any right get there scum ball noses involved in other countries business.
- PixelSiteLinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What a mess... Currently the MDHP homepage looks all screwed up... See the top of pixel grid, and the mess below the grid as well:
http://PixelSiteLinks.com/Million-Dollar-Homepage-screwed-up.html
Looks like it is still experiencing DDos(-related) problems? :(
Rob - investr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One Word. Prolexic.
www.prolexic.com
My buddy helped build the whole defense system. - wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -0/+0the link in the story is obviously a typo, I doubt that dozens of news agencies would lie so that one guy to post on digg.
Article says the site would be up later, so now it's up. And you guys are calling spam? *****, simple *****. - Fosowp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0high traffic now, in a year you wont remember him.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"maybe it is just another way to promote the site. more traffic anyone?"
The guy doesn't NEED more traffic, he has TONS... and he gets NOTHING out of more traffic anymore, he got his million!
"My calculations are that hosting will cost at least US$200K per year, leaving him US$400K in the hole after 5 years!"
Ok, well right off the bat I can tell that your calculations are retarded. First of all, you assume that the site will have the same amount of traffic for a full 5 years.... a few months from now, he'll probably have 1/10 of the traffic he has now, and in 5 years he'll have almost none.
Secondly, where the hell does your number of 200K come from? The site has almost no content, just one 1000x1000 image, but that's it... it really wouldn't cost very much to host at all. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The lame copycat sites deserved to be DDoS, though. Let's somehow convince the Russians to be jealous of the copycat sites, and let them have what's coming to them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Want to have some fun????

- tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if he already made a million buck then who cares if the site is destroyed?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Like I said with the digg on the release of MDH, why didn't I think of that?
- Abx0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IN SOVIET RUSSIA, SITE JACKS YOU. Anyway, he's got his million dollars why should he care? If I were him I could care less. They have a worthless site now.
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what great publicity, pitty he has no more pixels to sell.
- kuhas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How do you figure he's earned 1 million dollars, if 90% of his adspace is available? He hasn't. Sad that incorrect information becomes truth on here.
- Squeegee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0More of a scam to get traffic to the site..
- brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is just advertising for a clone website. +SPAM
- chithon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Site is up and working just fine.
All the ads are in place..... everything is fine.
Nice marketing job. Both the Site.... as well as this latest jab at pushing internet traffic to it.
Like I said.... I just checked it.... and so did you. - lo0ol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone think that hey, this was kind of a dumb idea for the Russians? I mean, if you're going to hack or attack 'em you should just do it before he's made all of his loot. Not it's just an inconvenience as opposed to something blocking him from making a million. The timing just seems a little off. Though it's too bad that he DOES have all of the pixels sold, since otherwise he'd be able to ride this one out in the press some more.
BTW, why is the FBI investigating, anyone know? I just ask because I thought the kid was English. Server hosted in the US perhaps? - sacfdup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0serves mr. Alex Tew right. what ever server the website was being hosted seems to be just as moronic as to be hacked when you control the hardware
- irock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's something I don't get... The headline says his homepage is being hijacked... So, his homepage or domain is in captivity right now or what?
- gookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bogus.
Propaganda to drive more traffic.
STUPID. STUPID. STUPID. - AttroPheed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0plus des lame!
- andywirtanen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg, I wanna apologize. I had no right to get pissed off at you, The Million Dollar Homepage isn't my problem. It wasn't even the right Million Dollar Homepage. I don't know why I can't just go to work and be happy, like I'm supposed to like everybody else.
- MrMysterious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"He made his money, do you think the dude really cares?"
He has made contractual obligations with the advertisers to keep the site live for X number of years. Sorry, don't care to look it up. - grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He made his money, do you think the dude really cares?
- naples, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DoS DOESNT = "HIJACKED" you idiot.
