- hnazareth16, on 12/16/2008, -4/+35Does it make IE suck less?

So there is ONE reason. - Pinkshisno, on 12/17/2008, -3/+13Typing M$ is so cool and original. You rebel you.
- Sokkratez, on 12/17/2008, -1/+11Quit saying ***** like "I don't use IE". If you use Windows, you use IE from time to time. Many programs use the IE engine to render web content within itself, because it's the only browser that a Windows computer is guaranteed to have. Take Steam for example; if you're looking at the Store page via Steam, you're using IE to render it.

- Myztry, on 12/17/2008, -1/+9The existence of ActiveX is the most important reason NOT to use IE.
Releasing ActiveX was plain stupidity even by Microsoft's standards.
What did they expect it would get used for. ***** DIMWITS! - Opiebreath, on 12/17/2008, -7/+15People still use IE?
Does anyone remember that metaphor/picture of someone using IE, someone using Firefox, and smeone using.. some.. other browser... and it was comparing their usage to different kinds of cars (or in the case of IE, a horse and carriage)? - DougUpndown, on 12/17/2008, -0/+7Please... at least give it it's proper 'comedy' name... Internet Exploder.
- Tiesto, on 12/17/2008, -1/+8Who uses IE?
Well most major companies for a start as much of the in house web bases apps are coded specifically for it.
As a patch admin for a large aviation company this patch is a huge pain in the ass, I will now have to run out of cycle tests with all my trial users and force through all the paperwork to get it released to the 40k boxes I maintain. All the while getting hassled my the misinformed management asking why it wasn't deployed already. - giogalindo, on 12/17/2008, -0/+7man this thing is really that serious.
- prodigitalson, on 12/17/2008, -0/+6"The existence of ActiveX is the most important reason NOT to use IE.

I wholheartedly agree. However, there are plenty of apps that DEPEND on ActiveX. - inactive, on 12/17/2008, -2/+8I use IE to pay all of my bills online. Safe as a random *****.

Yes, I run Linux, however some networks implement Windows, and I'm not changing an entire infrastructure to fit my personal tastes. I am a specialist in the field, not an elitist.
@valleyman86:
Want to re-write the applications for free? Legacy applications are used widely in corporate environments. - lovecss, on 12/17/2008, -0/+6Seriously, every web designer/developer in the world wishes that there were only 10 IE users in the world!
- prodigitalson, on 12/17/2008, -2/+8Ill up it to two... legacy web apps that depend on IE or ActiveX.
- ddotccDPU, on 12/17/2008, -5/+11If you are taking a jab at M$ then I fully agree with you... but if you are supporting them... then I have to say... what the ***** is wrong with you? HOW long has IE6 been out? and they are just NOW putting out this patch??? I will agree with you about M$ not taking months to fix a problem... they take YEARS.
- waluigi14, on 12/17/2008, -1/+6The only one that makes any sense there is IE. Why is Chrome a Hitler impersonator?
- Viper244, on 12/17/2008, -0/+5Interesting how if there is a flaw in IE and Microsoft releases a patch relatively quickly and people still complain. Firefox has had its share of vulnerabilities. All software is going to have vulnerabilities. To quote Secunia "Factors such as vendor response times and ability to properly fix vulnerabilities should also be considered when comparing products. Writing 100% secure code is virtually impossible, hence the vendor's responsiveness, willingness, and ability to provide quality patches to all its customers in a fast a reliable way is at least as important as the sheer number of vulnerabilities when considering the security of a product." ( http://secunia.com/advisories/product/19089/?task= ... ) I'd say Microsoft responded well to this one. A week is not that long to stay away from Chinese sites.

Problem solved - Murdats, on 12/17/2008, -4/+9wow, better go tell the guys at mozilla, its official.
its a shame to with their 20%+ market share, but I guess everyone has to uninstall it now. - smotpoker, on 12/17/2008, -0/+5Obviously since MS just acknowledged the problem, are calling it an "emergency" patch and prz only recently heard of it, it must be a brand new flaw.
- Pinkshisno, on 12/17/2008, -2/+7No, I pretty much hate IE as much as anyone, using Firefox to be exact. I just don't get the whole M$ thing. They are money hungry? So is every company.
- JackpotCity, on 12/17/2008, -3/+8I tried it for a while, it's quite zippy, but I still prefer good old FF.
- brad77, on 12/17/2008, -2/+7That you can't spell?

- Zippo, on 12/17/2008, -0/+4Enjoy your computer AIDS.
- DougUpndown, on 12/17/2008, -0/+4Sounds like a job for Virtualisation to me - a VMWare or Sun VirtualBox install of Windows (doesn't have to be XP or Vista... you could install Win2k or earlier if you wanted) running IE6 + whatever Maximo is, all in a nicely self-contained package. Then you can update your real Windows to your hearts content and just open up your Virtual box when you need to use Maximo.
- westyvw, on 12/17/2008, -0/+4Nice. Please, bring this to the next meeting when they finally want to move on and dont let them buy the next sure thing to salvation with out learning from their past.
- dsmx, on 12/17/2008, -0/+4Microsoft are software developers not miracle workers.
- bjornski, on 12/17/2008, -0/+4That sounds like a problem with Maximo not updating, not Microsoft.
- inactive, on 12/17/2008, -1/+5I guess you were drunk when you wrote that?

- SSPink, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3Does "Out In Style" sound like an apparel store for gay people to anyone else?
- antdude, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3Read the comments. Think of Hitler and Germany taking over Europe in WWII.
- westyvw, on 12/17/2008, -1/+4I am taking that straight to the CIO of the next company I consult for. Pure Brilliance! All along we knew it must be those lazy IT guys...
- westyvw, on 12/17/2008, -1/+4But hey do like the rest of us IT folks do. Just say "you know how Microsoft is...." and you'll get away with anything. Amazing isn't it? Everyone knows its *****, but no one does anything about it.
Really you should be slapping the developers who thought it was a good idea to make browser specific apps. And yes they should have known better, even back then. - Azathothh, on 12/17/2008, -1/+4i wonder when Firefox has a security flaw it gets this much attention....
- inactive, on 12/17/2008, -0/+3Good old? Opera was started in 1994.
It's the most refined, sophisticated, fastest, efficient, blah blah blah. -
