- rocknog, on 07/09/2009, -0/+34"LAPDs Public Database Omits all Crimes Committed by LAPD"
There, fixed the title for you. - uc1digger, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2040% Omission is a huge percentage. Its great reporting from LA Times to counter attack LAPD's statements that they reduced crimes year on year basis.
- MMusick, on 07/09/2009, -0/+17They've been watching The Wire.
- DanThePainter, on 07/09/2009, -2/+14Pure speculation. More likely the brass wanted to make it look like their policies were working, whether or not that was the case.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/09/2009, -0/+10How do you think they reduced crime?
Actually stopping it? nah.. they just didn't report it! - NBCLocal, on 07/09/2009, -0/+10Great reporting by the LATimes on this. It must have taken a lot of legwork to discover the omitted crimes.
- rocknog, on 07/09/2009, -2/+11Why would you assume that? If the information was deliberately withheld, it would be far more likely in my opinion that they would do it to make it seem like they're doing their job better. I think it's a little too early to jump on the PC card.
At any rate, from the sound of the story, it's a programming problem (but, I guess I wouldn't be surprised if that was a cover). - laughtears, on 07/09/2009, -0/+9if the cops claim to not be "computer guys" what are they doing all the time on their laptops, while they are driving ?
- pingpants, on 07/09/2009, -1/+8We failed to report 137 rapes in your area. Sorry, ladies. We'll do better next time. If you're still, y'know, alive.
- mdelling, on 07/09/2009, -9/+16I'd venture a guess that they were deliberately withheld because including them would have made some minority ethnic group look bad. You can't let the facts keep you from being politically correct.
- shibbyo, on 07/09/2009, -2/+9mdelling is proud that he doesn't give in to wussy political correctness. He doesn't bow down to the sensitivity nazis! When we hear that the LAPD's police database was reporting faulty stats, he doesn't go for the obvious answer that it was a ***** or that they were trying to protect some recently implemented policies. No! He just says what we're all thinking: it's the liberals trying to protect the ethnics. Again.
In these troubling times, I am glad that we have true patriots like mdelling to be a lighthouse in the fog of political correctness. - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6Flirting with the dispatcher.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6The first time I ever smoked pot, I was shot with a rubber bullet by LAPD. It was great.
- laughtears, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6that explains a lot of things
- enantiodromia, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5now that is awesome.
first time i smoked pot, an LAPD ghetto bird found us, and chased us with their spot lights on. that was pretty cool, too. - chadsmith729, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5I see we are not being optimistic here ... 60% of all crimes are available to the public!
- wannaBdug, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5Yeah, that info would come in handy. Of course I'm sort of clueless about checking that stuff.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4Who needs these Krispy Kreme eating fat fvcks?! What about when some ***** ripped off my car stereo? But the cops? Late again. They were right there to pull me over and harass me about curfew when I was late coming home from work. They are still not able to bust my creepy uncle-in-law for ***** his 10 year old step daughter (my cousin) because it happened in a different state. However, they were nice enough to pull me over because my car had only one of the two required license plate lights on and threaten me with fines if they caught me again. They were right on time to bust up a party at my buddies house in collage because of a few adults were not yet 21 to drink a freaking beer even though they were about to leave for the military.
- enantiodromia, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3racism isn't really a left vs. right thing, sorry.
it seems you don't like it when someone belittles you for belittling someone else though, so that's sort of amusing for the rest of us.
btw, nice creation date on your digg account. how many times have you been banned at this point? - inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4So we're not as safe as we're lead to believe...how convenient. Seems like a REAL HONEST MISTAKE. /s
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4Do you honestly think these fat, dopey, Krispy Kreme eating ***** cops want to take their chances against real tough criminals? ***** no, they ride around in their pigmobiles picking on kid's and old people smoking dope. They call for major backup when they actually "catch" a real criminal.
"Protect and serve" my ass! lol - paperclipsNsoup, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3Man, I was on there for a pot ticket... And they missed rapes and murders?
- electricwaffles, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3OH! That's where those violent crime records went! Whoops.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3THAT old dude?
- enantiodromia, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2uh, i hate to break it to you Steinberg, but Stormfront says clearly in their tag line they are a race based organization: "Discussion board for pro-White activists and anyone else interested in White survival." Me113's comment was clearly racially motivated, as are every comment on Stormfront's message boards. it is the fault of the reader if a relationship is not understood.
so you are wrong on your first point, which brings us to your second "point", that i somehow threatened to ban this person.
how would i do that? do i work for digg? no. did i even waste the time to report this person for typing their asinine rant? no. if i spent the time to report every racist idiot on digg, i wouldn't have time for much else.
i am actually delighted that you found a list of logical fallacies on the innernets, and that you (attempt) to use them in every day conversations, probably as an attempt to hide your lack of formal education (there is a free ad hominem for you), but i feel it is my duty to remind you that if you try, and fail, to assert another party has committed a logical fallacy, you not only look stupider, but exponentially stupider.
have a nice day. - enantiodromia, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2"looks like me113 has new registration - must have being banned before. (Why IS IT EVEN RELEVANT if you are not thinking of reporting him?"
really, you can't figure that out? could it be, because trolls and bigots often get their accounts banned, then create new accounts in oder to continue posting their garbage? could it be that many accounts which begin with "me" or something similar, and/or end in a number, are very often throw away accounts?
you are either new to Internet forums, lack any observation skills, and/or a very slow learner, because this is all really basic stuff.
you can split hairs as fine as you wish and try to stalemate me in a game of Semantics, but the fact is the original post to which i commented on was clearly some racist *****, and apperently enough people agreed, because the post has since been removed. which is amusing, since i had not reported it myself, which for some weird reason, is an idea you are absolutely fixated on.
i think the real issue here is, why are you so rabidly defending some racist piece of ***** with such vigor?
i somehow doubt it has anything to do with some Platonic ideal of "Truth". - BurgGuy, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2Oh that brings back memories.
- enantiodromia, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Stormfront has spoken...
anyone else? - leetdood, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2Cooking the stats! Rawls would be proud.
- MrAwesomeMan, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1But now Los Angeles looks like a dangerous place to live...oh wait...
- o76923, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1You know the API on google maps isn't that bad. They could probably have a dozen college kids figure it out something over a summer that works better and costs less.
- rmxz, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Perhaps a mix of bad data entry and a a bad geocoder?
If the crime reports have addresses like "on the sand at Cabrillo Beach" or "Exit 15 on I10", most cheap geocoders will toss that out as unmappable. - ObamaFTL, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1As a former Baltimore Police Officer I can tell you that although this may be just speculation, this is the main reason why crimes are not reported. In Baltimore, the crimes stats use to be sorted by type of crime, location and race (per FBI standard) but back about 10 years ago, they removed the RACE stats from the PUBLIC record, then a funny thing happened. The number of crimes went DOWN according to the stats given to the public, but the number of crimes went UP according to the FBI stats. The vast majority of the violent crimes committed in Baltimore are black on black, drug dealers against other dealers....A large portion of those crimes go unreported in the public stats, probably trying to portray Baltimore's crime rate as lower to attract tourism and commerce to the city. Baltimore is one of the most dangerous cities in the country. I can see L.A. doing the same thing....they have a lot to lose if people thought they might become a victim of they visit.
- chron0l0gy, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1Damn popo. They would give us traffic tickets, but they won't solve crimes. :/
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -3/+4I had many good friends who worked in emergency medicine... while attending one party, someone brought up the "race and penis size" issue. After some discussion about race and penises, one woman brought up something i had never heard from any of them before - she mentioned something about police officers almost always having very small penises. Several people mentioned personal anecdotes about treating police officers, and how they almost always had a very small penis. Apparently this is some sort of running inside joke in the medical professions. I asked them if they were serious, and they said yes, it is common knowledge that police officers usually have very small penises and testes. These people would know since they have to give physicals to them and also deal with them in emergency situations. As one of them put it "If we get a call that there is a police officer coming into our trauma ward, we immediately know we'll need a catheter from the pediatric ward."
It all makes sense man, the psychology of it all, this horrible behavior actually driven by the psychosis of struggling through life with very small genitals. It makes sense.
I think this may help explain the behavior against the youth and ederly we see caught on tape from time to time. - ash7887, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1"i think the real issue here is, why are you so rabidly defending some racist piece of ***** with such vigor?"
because i live in LA, and see this city disintegrating for the reasons stated in the original message by me113. - ash7887, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Statement 1 from me113
Race change in responsible for crime wave in LA (unsupported)
Response 1 by enantiodromia
me113 is a racist from Stormfront - fallacy red herring because you should have requested data or evidence
NO RESPONSE to Statement 1
me113 Response 2 (to Response 1)
Instead of calling names stick to the subject
enantiodromia Response 3 (to response 2)
looks like me113 has new registration - must have being banned before. (Why IS IT EVEN RELEVANT if you are not thinking of reporting him?)
NO RESPONSE to Statement 1
ash7887 Response 4 (to Response 3)
to enantiodromia - you are not making any sense in your responses except changing the subject. But just in case here is official data for you to SUPPORT Statement 1
enantiodromia Response 5 (to Response 4)
-calling ash7887 Steinberg
- Explaining Stormfront slogan
- stating me113 being racist
-asking instructions of banning the digg member
-speculations on ash7887 education
-expression of delight of ash7887 finding the list of fallacies
- claiming that pointing out fallacies makes people stupid
-wishing 'nice day'
NO RESPONSE to Statement 1
- ash7887, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1enantiodromia,
you committed 2 classical fallacies:
1. "red herring" by switching subject from "crime and race" to "Stormfront"
2. "appeal to force" by indirectly threatening a ban on the member.
In short - you are an idiot.
But here is FBI 2007 violent crime data by race. 12% of Black population in the country committed more violent acts (6400) than 70% whites (5500 which includes Mexicans!). So go and call FBI - "Stormfront". Even better move to the hood like Compton/East Los Angeles.

- djm19, on 07/09/2009, -2/+1For clarity: These crimes are not omitted from official statistics and the city IS the safest its been since the mid 1950s. The story here is that some of these crimes have not been put on the crime map that the police department produces, which is not the "master list" of all crimes documented, so to speak.
- enantiodromia, on 07/09/2009, -2/+1Unless you have actually encountered the LAPD, you can keep your opinions to yourself, thanks.
