- whiteknives, on 02/16/2008, -0/+43A trojan designed specifically to steal gaming passwords. Only Asia.
- elnerdo, on 02/16/2008, -0/+25Did you just summarize the article in a comment?
- inactive, on 02/16/2008, -0/+19if you think that bad, check this out....

its about using RFID tags to infect business and government networks.... - DigitAl56K, on 02/16/2008, -0/+16I just bought a 16GB corsair survivor flash drive, also shipping with an autorun.inf virus:

Fun stuff. - pak314, on 02/16/2008, -0/+16I do understand their logic. Often times one factory in China makes the same products for multiple OEMs with little more than a different casing design.
- jamesgott, on 02/16/2008, -2/+17Good goin, trying to steal passwords with a picture frame. Only old people use picture frames.
- Haidoken, on 02/16/2008, -1/+16i thought it was just some accidental infection or a weird glitch, now it turns out that someone apparently put a lot of hard work into a virus that can disable over 100 security applications and basically steal anything off of your computer. Good thing its only gaming passwords right now.
- modnar, on 02/16/2008, -7/+20There's a nifty feature of digg that has the user name of the commenter above their comment. That means you don't have to write your name every time you comment. Isn't this great?
- D3koy, on 02/16/2008, -1/+13No, the strategy behind buying a Mac is that now you won't have any gaming passwords worth stealing...
- Celeron, on 02/16/2008, -2/+14I can't wait until BestBuy goes out of business. Here's to hoping!
- beefchi, on 02/16/2008, -0/+11or just buy a real picture frame...
- Dokument, on 02/16/2008, -0/+11Starcraft FTW!!!
- Bamborzled, on 02/16/2008, -0/+10This IS Engadget, remember. Most of their articles can be summarized in a comment.
- pak314, on 02/16/2008, -0/+10Yes they do. The company I worked for once bought a variety of photo printers a while back to do some hardware compatibility tests. Turned out three of those printers from major manufacturers had the exact same button shape and placements and menu structure. They only differed in case color and manufacturer labeling. It is more common than you think.
- Myonosken, on 02/16/2008, -1/+11"and their only credible adversary is the United States."
Wouldn't bet on it skip. - pak314, on 02/16/2008, -0/+10Atleast it is not lead coated.
- inactive, on 02/16/2008, -2/+9We seriously need a virus just to disprove mac fanboys, so they can all shut the ***** up. Not that I'm against macs, but the fanboys are scum to everyone.
- worthone, on 02/16/2008, -0/+5From the comments I've seen, some people are just too lazy to read the articles they digg.
- Alex.w, on 02/16/2008, -0/+5They do. I've had three wireless keyboard bases (by three brands) that are all the exact same thing in side and out, only change is the rub on logo.
Heres an example: https://www.medionshop.co.uk/P23ShopImagesUK//46/4 ...
I bet you've even seen that thing about by a different brand. - ryan83189, on 02/16/2008, -0/+4Yep, you won't have to worry about your gaming passwords being stolen. Enjoy snood in safety.
- ssttuu, on 02/16/2008, -0/+4Lets try monetary security first! America, bankrolled by China Inc.
- Loonacy, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3Because people are too stupid to know how to install software from CDs if it doesn't do it automatically for them. And I'm only exaggerating slightly.
- darlyn, on 02/16/2008, -1/+4Here's one of of the comments from the post:
"Good thing I have no use for such things"
'Nuff said - forgeflow, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3honestly, why does Autorun even exist on windows machines. Not only should it be off by default, it shouldn't even exist. What a stupid, stupid idea. Users of other operating systems manage to live their lives without AutoRun just fine.
- Lazydriver, on 02/16/2008, -8/+11Macs are computers too, dumbass.
SOLUTION: Diversify code-base for a multitude of operating systems.
DOWNSIDE: A coder's nightmare to recode for 1-10 different OS's.
SOLUTION: Increase security.
Downside: Adaptations.
Linux > Overpriced Piece of ***** Computers with a decent OS they call "Macintosh OS 10" - ThE0eNiGmA, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3The flaw with that argument is that the gaming passwords worth stealing (Blizzard games), are also on the Mac.
- HxChris91, on 02/17/2008, -0/+3no way
HxChris91 - ZeroFive1, on 02/16/2008, -0/+2What I was wondering.
- Boondoggle, on 02/17/2008, -0/+2I'd just like to point out that SANS knows what they are talking about. it is not a journalist or enthusiast organization... It is a serious security organization.
- causeitsme, on 02/16/2008, -1/+3Quote: "The United States also needs to establish moderately secure labs..."
Why in the world do we need our govt. to be involved at all, so a few computers got an infection and it was caught and stopped, this has been happening since people started going on the net.
If the govt. purchases computers and peripherals then I can see where they need to make sure those are secure, but, to have another division of our govt. spending money we don't have in the first place to check all electronics for malware is just too much. - goo321, on 02/17/2008, -0/+2To quote my father. "Why isn't my movie playing." And no he likely wouldn't be able to play the movie otherwise.
- JohnFlux, on 02/17/2008, -0/+2Auto-playing a movie wouldn't require 'autorun' in the sense of running an executable on the disk.
- EarlOfLade, on 02/17/2008, -0/+2Well, I have been in the computer business and owned a multitude of PC's since 1983 and I have never had a single virus on a Windows box, and none of my UNIX/Linux boxes either for that matter.
- KMitchell, on 02/17/2008, -1/+3From http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2 ...
Deborah Hale at SANS suggested that PC users find friends with Macintosh or Linux machines and have them check for malware before plugging any device into a PC. - Kanidia, on 02/17/2008, -0/+2"bypasses the Windows firewall"
Yawn, what's on the news? - antdude, on 02/17/2008, -0/+2Because people are lazy!
- leprix, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1holy *****....i just sold one of these on ebay for $75....had no idea!
- antdude, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1Lazy to run installers and programs. :)
- justaboutdead, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1you know there are free anti-virus' out there, right?
- CreativeGuy, on 02/17/2008, -4/+5God I love Mac OSX! :-p
- MtheoryX, on 02/17/2008, -0/+1Right, because viruses only exist on torrent sites, right? And before Bittorrent, there were no viruses, right?
The only time you're truly not safe is when you say "so I figure I'm safe." - oodledoodle, on 02/16/2008, -1/+2yours has no virus? thats hardly value for money is it. i'll stick with the chinese ones thanks.
- OrangeSoda31, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1I agree, this feature does not exist
Me - Jason4000, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1Windows needs to disable the autorun.inf for removable drives with the exception of cd and dvd roms. They could do this with a simple patch. Then manufactures should include a warning to format the media at first use. That's it that's all.
- EarlOfLade, on 02/17/2008, -2/+2You love to pay through the nose in order to be locked into ONE supplier? Wow, that is insane!
- inactive, on 02/16/2008, -1/+1Yet "Mocmex" isn't listed on CA's website.
I smell sensationalism and trusting bad sources.
http://search.ca.com/search/ca?style=engb&search_b ... - aspec, on 02/16/2008, -3/+3You must have worked there at some point.
- FuZi0nDET, on 02/17/2008, -1/+1I have one of these damn things and haven't touched it since I heard about this. How in the hell do I get rid of the s.o.b. I'm cheap I don't use anti-virus software. I dont ever go on torrent sites so I figure I'm safe.
- LastDitchHero, on 02/17/2008, -0/+0Yea, let the gov't not check things. Hey lets make it where they don't check food, or product safety. If we were to test foreign devices we would only select a few randonly. Just like they do with food, shipments, etc. You trust some Chinese Gov't run factory to not try to put something in your product?
