- trollick, on 03/12/2008, -1/+31Wow! Are you saying that technology finally got to the level that we can run simple database queries? The singularity is near!
- kurupttek, on 03/12/2008, -0/+28Is this whore tracking software?
- slickme, on 03/12/2008, -1/+22Another reason I try to use only cash...
- jjones20, on 03/12/2008, -0/+19Goes to show you just how closely the bank is watching money that isn't really theirs. "spend too much of your own money?" RED FLAG! Of course they were already watching some of the accounts, but they do mention looking into alot of innocent people too.
- FecalHurler, on 03/12/2008, -0/+11Amer Express XXXX-0199- $4,300- Kristen
- dkichline, on 03/12/2008, -3/+14$500 for dinner
$1000 for wine
$4,300 for a prostitute
Not setting up the processes which caught you money laundering to pay for the prostitute? Priceless
Some people use cash,
For everything else there's Mastercard - Duositex, on 03/12/2008, -0/+10Hopefully now that the people who put this software into place after 9/11 see that it will catch them with their pants down, not just their enemies. Perhaps then we'll see the overreaching government take a step back and realize that their privacy is on the line too. After all, no matter what conspiracy you throw out there.. they're United States Citizens too..
- Jalh, on 03/12/2008, -0/+84300 for a whore ? is her pussy cover of diamonds and gold ?
- Gerz1219, on 03/12/2008, -3/+10No, it's witch hunting software.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/12/2008, -2/+8How does that help if the cash is in the bank at some point? Maybe you don't use the bank for some of it? I'd be screwed, all my cash is routed through the bank. Thank god it takes me 2 months of work to pay for one of his hookers, it's a great deterent.
- vvaduva, on 03/12/2008, -3/+9So it's OK for the feds to spy on this guy, but it's not ok for them to spy on potential terrorists? Who decides when and who to spy on?
- dlowder, on 03/12/2008, -0/+5Holding hands and watching Bloomberg Financial channel on the hotel TV.....
- chris9902, on 03/12/2008, -3/+8no, it's not on a Mac.
- strictnein, on 03/12/2008, -0/+5Here you go, a smaller version:
http://digg.com/security/How_software_helped_nail_ ... - londubh, on 03/12/2008, -10/+14Can we use it to nail Bush and Cheney now? Oh wait. They didn't get their dicks sucked. Never mind.
- Ladymongoose, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4I would think after a thousand bucks worth of wine, you could get a much cheaper prostitue and you probably wouldn't care.
- plizard, on 03/12/2008, -4/+8lol what a dumb ass
- peterjmag, on 03/12/2008, -1/+5I don't know why anyone WOULDN'T use cash...
- Skeptic1970, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4If he was client #9, who are the other 8(or more). I want to know.
- theheights, on 03/12/2008, -3/+6Could they have made that diagram any smaller? Sheesh!
- pcpimpster, on 03/12/2008, -1/+4At least he used his own money... well - at least he didnt use our tax dollars directly... hhhmm... i give up.
Hope he banged her good because it cost him his career. - inactive, on 03/12/2008, -0/+2Nothing cures governmental over-reaching as well as prosecuting powerful politicians (or their family or friends) to the fullest extent of the laws they wrote.
Spitzer is a vindictive maniac who took almost orgasmic pleasure not just in punishing wrongdoing, but in ruining the lives of those he prosecuted. I hope the Feds throw the book at him. He could get decades for money laundering and interstate prostitution. Let him have every bit of it. - acudoc, on 03/12/2008, -2/+4The State is responsible for the deaths of millions. Spitzer consorting with prostitutes is the State's hypocritical obsession, although his committed a victimless, so-called crime. The times are out of joint. Perhaps in matters of the State they always have been. How many wiretaps were required in this probe. I have heard stated over 5000. Five thousand intrusions into the privacy of individuals, that's what should be of concern.
- veloscaper, on 03/12/2008, -0/+2No, it's cover story software. I'm sure Spitzer knew, being a former head prosecutor, to keep is transactions below the radar. Taking him down is meant to send a "message" to someone else.
- ElectroOverlord, on 03/12/2008, -0/+2Him and Detroit's mayor!
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -3/+5Best line: "The [Wall Street] Journal notes that banks monitor the financial transactions of politically connected people–legislators, judges and their relatives–to probe for ill-gotten gains."
... Hey, Hillary? We have a question or two for you... - fr3nch13, on 03/12/2008, -0/+2I jokingly asked my mortgage broker when I bought my first house if I could just get a wheelbarrow full of cash before closing. He said no :(.
- TheInformer, on 03/12/2008, -1/+3Funny how none (that's zero, zilch) of the major news media have identified Spitzer as a democrat. Did you know that some of the broadcast news networks have absolutely refused to identify Spitzer as a Democrat in their stories? If he were a Republican, well.... his party affiliation would have been made clear early and often in the story. Don't believe me? Go do your homework, look up stories of scandal (there are plenty) and note how a person's political party is mentioned, Democrat vs. Republican.
- footbag01, on 03/12/2008, -1/+3His bank turned him in??? Big brother is watching!!!
- Atomic1fire, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2After they gave him ideas
ZING
(yes Im refering to the clinton scandels that involved money and the one with monica) - Dorian822, on 03/12/2008, -3/+5Why is the nation so absorbed with one man not being able to keep it in his pants over a few men (and one woman) basically sending our nation into a recession and getting countless needlessly killed? Can't someone investigate and prosecute that one?
- srodolff, on 03/12/2008, -2/+4So, what have we learned here?
Since only transactions above $10,000 raise red flags, the solution is to hire cheaper hookers. - joelav22, on 03/12/2008, -0/+2I heard about this on NPR this morning. The software tracks PEPs (politically exposed persons) more closely than the average Joe. It looks at trends and flags anything that is not characteristic of your spending habits. It also looks for a lot of small similar transactions in a short period of time - which can be indicative of money laundering. Pretty neat stuff that I wasn't aware of.
- mark_in_bc, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2Because cash is is easily lost or stolen. Also when spending large sums cash it raises more red flags than other methods of payment. Try buying a new car with cash these days. The FBI the CIA or anyone else for that matter could care less about your daily nickel and dime purchases. Cash is a pain in the ass. It's dirty and hard to keep track of for tax purposes. Give me debit card or credit card any day of the week.
- mark_in_bc, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1Where does you cash come from? Unless your a gangster, drug dealer or only work for cash to cheat the IRS your money probably came from a bank and the places where you spend it will deposit it into a bank. I don't think the FBI gives a ***** about how much coin you drop at McDonald's or the grocery store. If you are a criminal your not a very smart one for posting on digg.
- junk, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1After 9/11 it's $5,000 in most cases.
- username7D8, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1or maybe he spoke about how his daddy didn't love him?!?!
- Charlotte_Web, on 03/12/2008, -2/+3Apparently, Spitzer was pulling a Jesse Jackson on the banks. He would find anomalies (which are likely to exist in multi-billion dollar companies), and then threaten to go public with a witch hunt, unless the bank agree to pay out a large settlement.
In the end, the banks turned the tables on him and reported him to the IRS:

What comes around, goes around. - obliviousfool, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1You imply that there is some sort of benign government which oversees things and enforces the law. I don't care what the software says, a Bush or a Cheney or a Gonzales or a Mukasey or a Giuliani or a Krongard or a Rove isn't going to raise red flags. There are some people above being caught with their pants down. The red flags are there to catch everyone else.
- funk49, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't be using cash in regards to a bank as it raises much more scrutiny these days than electronic methods (wires, ACH). Trying to structure cash in and of itself is a pretty foolproof way to get yourself caught. There are too many alarms and algorithms these days to think he could fly under the radar. I'm surprised this guy wasn't better at hiding his tracks since he was an AG and should have known better ways to do it. Truly the work of an amateur.
- nxxm, on 03/12/2008, -3/+4nail spitzer? and i though spitzer was the one nailing them prostitutes :D
- pcsperson, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1I just feel bad for his family, since they will continued to have it the media long after his family has recovered from this event.
- mariot75, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1Apparently it was Wall St, not software that trapped Spitzer....
http://www.thefirstpost.co.uk/?storyID=23201 - mark_in_bc, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1Maybe their sucking each others dick.
- strictnein, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1Or maybe he reminisced about his times as AG
"And then this one time, when I was AG, I helped to bust up this high end prostitution ring. Oh...erhh... nevermind." - lexbaby, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1Perhaps, but not in this case. One of the first stories I read on this (probably CNN.com) noted that he was a Democrat and that he was a "Super Delegate" that had pledged support for Clinton.
- andreo, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1I think you mean because he got horny, not greedy...
- mark_in_bc, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1He should have used his wifes credit card.
- inactive, on 03/13/2008, -0/+0I voted for bush and this software is definitely unconstitutional.
