- replaysMike, on 05/26/2009, -3/+25actually, with the current state of the economy, all you'll get from me is my debt.

- Richie311, on 05/26/2009, -1/+17$34,300 worth of Student loans, and a $24.36 outstanding bill at Blockbuster that's about 5 years old.
- Ymeg, on 05/26/2009, -1/+14The SSN infrastructure really needs to be redone. Stealing peoples identity is way too easy.
- cheezygrin, on 05/25/2009, -8/+21For the average Digg user, I'd say not much.
- PhillyOC, on 05/26/2009, -3/+12I wouldn't wish my identity on my worst enemy. They can have it and all the debt that comes with it.
Good luck trying to get approved for a credit card in my name, *****! You have a better chance of seeing Jesus riding a dinosaur through Times Square. - shadowspawn, on 05/26/2009, -2/+11I think the article was hacked; the repetition was funny.
- ZombieSociety, on 05/26/2009, -0/+8OH LAWD DON'T LET IT GET NEAR THE ROAST
- moges, on 05/26/2009, -0/+8A common misconception. The payoff for stealing a 'normal' person's identity isn't the money they have, its the money that can be given to them. While loans are now harder to get, they are still easy, and if I have your details, I can get a personal loan for a couple of thousand and run, leaving you to pick up the pieces with a new debt from a company that you have never dealt with.
The only time when it wouldn't be worth stealing someones identity would be if they couldn't get a loan. But there is always some company willing to do high risk loans (at some price) - Arkyll, on 07/16/2009, -2/+8I am worth Sh*t

- Misinformant, on 05/26/2009, -0/+4I still can't find work. I'll trade my identity with someone.
- davefretty, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3I don't need to worry about someone stealing my identity. Once I get a 50% cut from a Nigerian prince I'm going to keep it under my bed.
- Velnich, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3How much an identity is worth is not measured in how much you own, but how much someone can take from your name.
- HonoredMule, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3In a word, 65535 + 1

- ilikedemoon, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3I agree but its just funny how some idiot thinks their going to be a big bad crook when they give money to someone with a weird name in a chatroom.
- jdude95, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3I'd say its worth about two taco bell tacos, a 5 dollar footlong, and some of the clearance stuff in Target...
- dman24752, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2Well at least I know I should change my passwords often...
- ilikedemoon, on 05/26/2009, -2/+4As in any transaction, however, let the buyer beware. Anyone who took loopz up on the offer would probably have come away empty-handed. Santorelli says that 9 out of 10 traders in the chatroom are "rippers" - con artists who take the money and run.
- buddamus, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the name Team Cymru, Wales FTW

The government should allow you to secure your SSN with finger prints for free. A retina scan and/or DNA for a fee if a fee is necessary. I don't know how cheaply those can be done. Finger prints and retina scans could be done by a bank pretty easily when taking out large loans. I could see DNA being used in extreme cases of identity theft when the other person has to be dragged into court and you have to face your other you like a terribly cliche movie plot.
For the paranoid all those extra measures should be optional. Banks could still give out a loan but require the fingerprint/retina scan and it's the person who matches those things that owes the money, not the person who's SSN or signiture is on the paper. So when fighting a loan all you have to do is go to court, have your fingerprints/retina scanned to prove you weren't the one who was there signing the papers. - v1rotate, on 05/26/2009, -3/+5me < 0

- AnneOnimous, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1The fact that the servers were registered to New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, reminded me of this previous article, where their servers were registered to the same building as the National Cyber Forensics Training Alliance. Wonder if there is any correlation?
