Jebus, can't you people leave it alone?
If you want to operate a business in a country, you have to obey the laws of that country.
You either obey the laws of China, or you don't deal with a HUGE proportion of the worlds population. - digitaldivider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"How does China Censor the Internet?

Get off google's nuts for a minute for the love of god. they did what they had to do. they had to appease the government in order to keep business in china. what would you do? lose tons of potential business in one of the biggest IT gold mines? or keep your share of business?
tough choice in my book. just because google is acting on requests made by the chinese goverment doesn't make them evil. doesn't make their products any worse, so give it a rest.
Back to the subject at hand, I found the wikipedia article pretty interesting. although, I wonder if say for instance a chinese user decided to use a public proxy if google's search results would still be filtered?
just my own personal musings, but still. - chuck2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Some sources that I found helpful:

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What do you bet, that America's Internet will be *censored in the respect, that we will have to prove our age and who we are to search for certain material.

What about Japanese "Internment" Camps during WWII, Segregation, Manifest Destiny, and the current censorship because of religious fervor in the US? I kind of agree with you, but these are interesting points to bring up when looking at China's human rights history. - superdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Christ, wikipedia pages are NOT news FFS."
seriously. cmon.
the comments, however, with actual news, are very helpful for me, because i'm doing a research paper on chinese internet censorship and it's sometimes hard to find information when you're actually in china. - triumph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Update: Microsoft revamps blogging policy

If you don't agree with the laws of China, don't deal with them. Conducting business in a country is saying that you agree with the laws of China, which makes them keep enforcing the laws. I hate this censorship crap! - monticello, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google is all about money, so of course they gave in
- mistshadow2k4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"what would you do? lose tons of potential business in one of the biggest IT gold mines?"
Yes. There is absolutely no amount of money in the world that's a good enough reason to deal with China. The Tiananmen Square massacre is well within living memory for the Chinese and continues to serve as a warning to this day. It's no different than providing services for Hitler's concentration camps. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft Related News Worth Reading:

And if you want to do business in ANY country, China or US or Zimbabwe, you follow their laws.
Don't like the laws? Change them or move along.
GET OVER IT. - x2dx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sucks to be in China but if they want to cencor there own country then w/e but keep it in your own country.
- grislygus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know, China censoring freedom of speech is indeed wrong... But really, the only people that have the right to change China's policies are the chinese themselves... Except that, if they try to do that, they'll get crushed... It's a tough nut to crack.
Really, though, I just wish Cuba and China would stop trying to have the internet censored OUTSIDE of their own countries... - monticello, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0
