- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+84Ya 'hackers' who compromise an unsuspecting victims information and use it for profit is "cool as *****" *rolls eyes*.
- democracysucks, on 10/12/2007, -6/+43eBay sort of sucks, anyway. They've added all sorts of arbitrary charges and such, and the security is crap. People get scammed all the time by people who simply don't ever ship the purchased item, and after a friend of mine had her account randomly frozen, I myself had my account suspended for absolutely no reason at all. I sent 3 e-mails to eBay, and the second one was finally responded to a week later. After further correspondence, I was informed that I could "begin" the process of reactivating my account by sending eBay my credit card information among other things.
- jonellison13, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39Correct me if I'm wrong... but didn't it say he was Romanian about thirty times?
And on that note, ever wonder why people in Eastern Europe ARE such good programmers? - thegsa, on 10/12/2007, -13/+39This guy is a Douche, He's not cool as *****, he is *****.
- LemonDefragger, on 10/12/2007, -13/+35Ebay sucks, if I had a dollar for every dollar ive been screwd of, Id have no problem.
- leftfield, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I wonder if he saved the garbage file to a floppy...?
- plsailboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19You are a moron if you think that would solve the situation.
- plsailboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16cannibal eh? I hear we taste like chicken
- SwissCamel, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20I think you meant to say he is as 'Amazing as AIDS'
- ecrater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I am glad that this story is starting to get some attention. This crap has been going on for a while now. Last week I tried to report this and did not get much of a response. Ebay has a major problem on their hands. Especially if this hacker tells his friends how to get into the system. I hope that this becomes a huge news story and Ebay get the much negative publicity that it deserves. It can't sweep everything under the rug!
- hafniOum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Do you really think that the guy was doing that with his mother's Internet connection?
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15"he did it purely for fun. No profit ever taken."
Oh, well then... In that case, give the man a medal! His moral fiber is obviously of the highest caliber! [/sarcasm] - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17*cough* US education sucks *cough cough*
- Tallon29, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13"And on that note, ever wonder why people in Eastern Europe ARE such good programmers?"
Because it's so ***** cold? - Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12My white hat gets dirty too easily, so i prefer my black hat.
- hafniOum, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10FTA: it had been said that they believes he is Romanian.
- Pyloff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I hate to be a big comedown, but how about you write some useful software instead of breaking other peoples software?
- brwright, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7For as much money Ebay rips people off for, you'd think they'd be able to provide decent security.
- marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm hardly surprised. Ebay has a huge security problem that their either unable or unwilling to control.
The fraud on that site is so rampant that companies feel compelled to hire legal teams to fight it themselves.
I know this because I was involved in a sweep of fake Tag Heuer watches on eBay. Before we started, 1 in 5 watches were fake on that site.
Ebay might have been a nice idea at one time, but it obviously has too many holes that are being exploited.
What's ironic is this relatively simple business model has become so cocksure and corporate over the years--but they do little to actually improve their site.
If eBay cannot provide some measure of safety and trust, what good are they? Just compare eBay to Amazon's used book partnerships for a clue how online third-party sales should work. - spatznick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9You must be a "westerner", right?
- chess007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6 People who scam the system are just as bad as people who hack it. I mean the idiots who sign up to buy something, (usually a high end item) say its not real, and switch it for a fake. Then try to return the fake. For the first negative rating of "Non paying bidder" the person should be removed from Ebay for life.
How hard would it be for them to offer Fed Ex as a shipping option? USPS breakings things most of the time. For anything 2 pounds or over Fed Ex is the best.
Ebay needs better customer support. How about phone support rather than support via email? - Barnolde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5All that improved security must've been justification for raising prices once again. eBay is a crock of ***** that has become so full of themselves it's sickening. Things like this just make it easier to stay away from eBay.
- mike503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i wouldn't be surprised if it's an ebay employee or they know about him and just don't care.
i've heard stories about ebay's management being as crappy as paypal, and being someone who was screwed from paypal first hand, i can say that i have no problem believing that. - DamageInc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7And this is why I rarely buy anything on ebay that is more than $50...no one is going to take the time to scam you out of small amounts of money when they can go for the big payout just as easily.
However, its not that hard to stay safe. Never enter your username/pass except at the eBay log in screen...even if the email you've received looks legit, contact them back to get confirmation. And never bid on anything that you have the slightest doubt is a scam/fake. I've passed on a lot of good looking deals so I wouldn't have to go through the possible hassle of dealing with the seller. - pixelbender, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Are you sure you didn't sign up for a seller's account? I do believe they require that info so they can charge selling fees. Trust me, been there since 99, they suck, and my life is better when I spend less time selling, but make sure you have your facts straight before spouting off about something.
Err... n/m, this is digg. - ahodes1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wouldn't be surprised if eBay's management is as bad as PayPal's either-- after all, eBay DOES own PayPal...
- hafniOum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@imikedaman
You have a point but if that was the fact, they would had say that he's American not that he is a Romanian living in the US, doesn't you think? If they said he is believed to be Romanian is probably because he lives in Romania.
haf. - Darmichar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Before eBay has a 'major problem on their hands', their needs to be a competitor willing to offer what eBay doesn't.
This is why they don't give a ***** how many times you get scammed. Where else are you going to go? - Mihai12345, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7@spatznic I'l have to agree with you on that. And also in that country we recently had hacker crack some US government servers. It was a big story about 3 months ago. Plus the president said in Bill Gates's face that software piracy is great. Also perhaps you've heard about the antivirus BitDefender ( as in Windows Defender !!!), yup, that's us. We're the best....
I couldn't be more proud :D - Ethion, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12Stupid thing, I was supposed to reply to andy damn it..
Oh well, stupid hackers - unsolicited, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There is bigger problem for ebay.
I think "Wisdom of Crowds" does not always guarantee best price for the "seller". - marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Darmichar-
Yes, that's part of the problem. Nobody else in the market is forcing eBay to clean up their act.
There is CL, and have found it much more trustworthy, but of course only for in-person transactions. - cyburdine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I know of 2 other people firsthand, including myself, who had their accounts hijacked. I'd bet money this was done without having to break my password because it's a very secure password. I think Vladuz is one of many who have access to the internals of ebay, he's just arrogant enough to go public. The others, I believe are quietly laughing all the way to the bank at Ebay and our expense.
ebay is lame, it's a million dollar company who's web design looks like my mom made it. - thegsa, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7What are you talking about?
Hackers taste like Ramen. - Junkyardjims, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can see how some of the saga unfolded here:

DOC from Ebaymotorssucks.com has started a petition to oust Meg:
http://www.petitiononline.com/time4chg/petition.html - marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've met some people in PayPal--I was not impressed. Bad examples of Silicon Valley corporate culture.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@cyburdine.
That sums IT up perfectly
only idiots will use the site now. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How do you think they figured out he's a romanian? It's obviosly a fellow digger just bouncing his connection off a "romanian" mirror.
- brodie7838, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Vladuz is "No longer a registered user"

Good, now go get the rest of them! - marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All of 18 signatures sofar.
Hopefully more people will speak out. - iShouldveKnown, on 10/12/2007, -16/+18"Ebay sucks, if I had a dollar for every dollar ive been screwd of, Id have no problem."
Ebay doesn't force you to buy anything. If you never screwed yourself out of a dollar by buying something on ebay, you'd have no problem. - EruLabs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5He is a "hacker" if he did no harm and by 'hacking' ebay, he prevents a truly malicious 'hacker' from 'hacking' ebay.
if he is messing with peoples accounts and the order system, he is a criminal. otherwise, he is helping protect from criminals and should be treated as an unpaid vigilante.
Please google "The Hacker Manifesto" before you use that word... It has a special meaning in many peoples minds, I would be very careful when dropping it.
acepuppy... if you put info on the web, expect to get it played with - ntulip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2since no one is willing to pay him enough - he's probably turned to alternatives - or probably just for fun.... Anyone remember Blaster???
- Pyloff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can see it now... COOKIES!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5They're so used to writing broken software it's only natural they have some talent breaking other peoples'.
- Jo9100, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2***** is cool? what??
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Redirect flaw not fixed.
Note that one unsuspectiing consumer placed a bid, most likely lost his personal info, (PW)
What will ebaY be telling the consumer?
