- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -6/+108PROTIP: dont share your life on teh innertubes
- Nyctobello, on 02/11/2008, -7/+84I've broken free. 9 months ago, and 1567 mouse clicks later.
- nikkesen, on 02/11/2008, -6/+640 months and 0 mouse clicks later, I still haven't used Facebook. How liberating that feeling is.
- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -8/+45like ive said all along, ***** facebook
- SoundScape, on 02/11/2008, -3/+37I'd rather not make my family and friends look at porn leading up to my departure from Facebook, thankyou very much.
- cronian, on 02/11/2008, -0/+26For life? Does dying get you off facebook?
- dip03, on 02/11/2008, -1/+25Even if you delete everything, read the terms and conditions....everything you did on facebook is facebook's property. The information is still on their servers and ready to use for money.
- blup3ace, on 02/12/2008, -0/+21you can unfriend them first?
- KeithA45, on 02/11/2008, -0/+21Hm... have you heard of anyone who's tried it yet? Has it been dis-proven?
I know a few of my friends who would do it if it works... - KaivenTor, on 02/11/2008, -4/+23Oh, hey, my data wasn't removed from FaceBook permanently. Grr. Nobody ever bothered to think of "Hey, my data is still on search engines, mailing lists, telemarketers list, government lists, etc." I'm seeing this issue here being more that people are being hypocritical of a system that has been doing much the same thing as everyone else, it just a long time to dig some of these questions up.
People leave footprints online. You don't like it? Don't go online. I'm starting to get sick of these articles because people think they've been duped into something, when in reality, they never ******* read the terms of service to begin with. Start reading a few those on your other sites and software products. See how well you sleep tonight. ;)
Security starts with your head, if you want to share something with your friends and don't want someone to know about, there's PGP e-mail, your own web server, or God forbid, the post office. Other than that, once your data hits the internet, the odds of it getting cached somewhere is pretty high. Considering the way some networks are run, FacEBook should probably be the least of your worries when it comes to secure info given that the system they have in place is a ton better than say, MySpace. - Igno, on 02/11/2008, -0/+19Maybe they'll "delete" your account and keep your information out of spite...Maybe.
- KeepOffMyLawn, on 02/11/2008, -0/+19The easiest way was outlined in the comments of the 2504 Steps to Deleting Your Facebook Account. Open another, entirely new Facebook account with no data in it, remove yourself from any networks in your previous account, and then de-activate it. Then, in your new Facebook account, change the primary e-mail address to the one associated with the old Facebook account. Since Facebook uses email addresses as the usernames for logging-in purposes, the next time you login to your new account, it will display a message asking you to confirm deleting all data related to your email address (your old Account Info).
And since your new account has no data in it whatsoever, you can then email the Facebook people to delete the new one too.
Beats hours of comment-deleting. - Malevolant, on 02/11/2008, -12/+30Why do people sign up for these virtual popularity sites in the first place?
Sure people say, "to keep in touch with family and friends", but email is much more efficient, private(mostly), and you can close email accounts. - Blajano, on 02/11/2008, -1/+19like the hotel california haha
- scoottie, on 02/11/2008, -1/+19no you just get a pic of your headstone posted on facebook
- FoxFaction, on 02/11/2008, -0/+15Why does anyone care? I mean if they have your info, they're going to have it. If they don't, they don't. You're in the same boat as a million other people, so I'm sure it'll work out to be okay. Facebook has no useful information about me. Having my info on the internet is the least of my worries, IMO.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 02/11/2008, -2/+16It's not that big a deal for most.
They have my yahoo email address, not my important university one. The town and country where I live. A picture or two. And a list of everyone I know.
I can eliminate a lot of that by making changes. And if I don't update the information it's loses it's value pretty quick.
I think their policy is wrong. It's a big problem. But it's nothing that will ruin an average person's life. - Faasnat, on 02/11/2008, -1/+15I think this would only make it more popular. XD
- Daniel591992, on 02/11/2008, -0/+13Plus, you can remove the information from your profile before disabling your account.
- saleem, on 02/11/2008, -0/+13facebook added a feature that saves your old name (or you can put in your old name) so that friends can find you after you get married... or just find you forever.
- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -0/+12goatse is everyon's best friend. Thank you goatse!
- dogstar0125, on 02/11/2008, -2/+13You gave them a real email address? That wasn't very smart.
- dattaway, on 02/11/2008, -3/+13You can't erase your personal information with the friends you grew up with. Facebook is your friend for life.
- SQLDigger, on 02/11/2008, -11/+21Now that's what I call a sticky situation.
- scoottie, on 02/11/2008, -7/+16yes i do and theres this thing called a phone that you can actually here them. also there is this big thing called outside that you can actually touch people and things.
- dogstar0125, on 02/11/2008, -2/+11Or ***** book.
- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -4/+13Delete every message you have on your profile and your inbox. Delete everything on your profile. Yes it does take a few hours o_0 ... but its worth it.
Also change your name when you close down your account. (I'm not sure if that does any good. Anyone care to elaborate?) - EJTower, on 02/11/2008, -7/+16Sometimes you need to get in touch with people you haven't seen in seven years. Searching for them on facebook is a handy thing to be able to do.
- Sask, on 02/11/2008, -2/+10Get banned?
- Ajscott123, on 02/11/2008, -0/+8Actually you can contact Facebook and inform them that a person has died, but my friend's dead Sis is on there and it's cool reading up on how often people post on her wall and send her those riDICulously annoying applications.
- AGONYTUESDAY, on 02/11/2008, -1/+9just post hardcore porn on there. everything you ever did will be removed. i accidentally posted an artful nude, and EVERYTHING i had was gone. it took a bit of negotiating to get my profile back.
- dogstar0125, on 02/11/2008, -4/+11Yeah, I've got about 20 Facebook profiles and not a single one of them has a single truthful thing about me. When I get tired of them, I just create a new one. I don't care if the personal information of some nonexistent dude/chick stays there forever.
- Matt174e, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7Artful nude or it didn't happen.
- marktastic, on 02/11/2008, -8/+15Are you going to email everyone you know every day? I'll stick to looking at their web page (lazy).
- whiledo, on 03/25/2009, -1/+8Which part of giving all the private details about your life to a faceless multinational corporation were you confused about?
- mrsteveman1, on 02/12/2008, -5/+12Allow me to now gloat about my refusal to sign up in the first place
- mCanada, on 02/11/2008, -1/+8 if they restored your profile it means they didn't delete it. and now you have a noodz on your interwebz
- tizz66, on 02/11/2008, -10/+17Facebook works best when you have friends. I can understand that if you have none, the benefits of facebook are a little tough to see.
- computergod, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7Yup, that's also how you get rid of an AOL account: Go to the chat rooms and cause *****. You get a temp ban, then your account deleted.
- Chasuk, on 02/11/2008, -0/+7Mommy! Mommy! I can't delete my Facebook!"
"Just don't visit it anymore and shut up." - scoottie, on 02/11/2008, -0/+6never said that but i don't post on facebook and myspace and then expect my details to be private. i dont even make a profile here on digg for that reason
- JAG731, on 02/11/2008, -1/+7Facebook: The new AOL.
- astrimbu, on 02/11/2008, -0/+6"His post, which wound up on the link-aggregator Digg.com, has been viewed more than 87,000 times, Mr. Mansour said, adding that the traffic was so high it crashed his server."
Digg claims yet another victim... - inactive, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6How did you accidentally post an artful nude? Did your mouse clicking fingers have a few spasms?
- xsuite, on 02/12/2008, -1/+7All I did was threaten legal action. Thats only about 2000 keyboard clicks and one double click.
- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -3/+9Well when you throw stuff away it doesnt just 'disappear'. I ends up in a landfill.
All I'm saying is once you throw your name into a database anywhere, you're probably not going to be getting it out. What different about facebook. - tcsucks, on 02/11/2008, -2/+8Facebook is owned by the CIA. :noes:
