- robodud3, on 09/27/2008, -2/+73My heart says digg but my brain says bury.
- byrdgang, on 09/27/2008, -3/+66What kind of an idiot would release this news to the public? If you've found a great way to do anything illegal, don't tell anyone. Keep it to yourself and close friends.
Telling the entire world about it makes about as much sense as.....no wait, it makes no sense. - lucy22, on 09/26/2008, -2/+64They will probably close this pretty quick.
- TheWindBlows, on 09/27/2008, -2/+45As compared to a stability or security flaw.
- wontstoptalking, on 09/27/2008, -1/+42Dugg because it clearly states what software to use, how it works, why it works, and how you can't get caught.
Nice going, Yahoo. - stutimandal, on 09/27/2008, -3/+39Adobe makes one of the most bloated software(s) these days. Like a 300MB PDF reader. Just die.
- contact, on 09/27/2008, -1/+29It was only a matter of time before Adobe made a move to take down Amazon.. Next target YouTube!
- thenativeraver, on 09/27/2008, -2/+27foxit FTW!
- MWeather, on 09/27/2008, -0/+23This isn't illegal. They stream it to your PC unencrypted. You can legally save any information that is sent to your PC.
- franklymister, on 09/27/2008, -2/+24In a beautiful bit of irony, Replay Media Catcher, the $40 app that lets you record Amazon movie downloads, is now one of the hottest cracked torrent files...

- dullnation, on 09/27/2008, -3/+20Well, considering it's on Yahoo! News already, it's not as though getting this to front page is gonna stop it being patched...
- beermaker, on 09/27/2008, -1/+15just keep quiet.
- franklymister, on 09/27/2008, -1/+14Aaaaaand, it's dead:

Can I record the video on-demand streams from Amazon?
Not at this time. As of 9/26/2008 Replay Media Catcher cannot capture on-demand streams from Amazon.com. - inactive, on 09/27/2008, -5/+17Buried :x
- cheeseplease, on 09/27/2008, -0/+11Considering most people would actually keep it secret, just imagine how many people are doing stuff like this without anyone knowing about it.
- tnoy, on 09/27/2008, -1/+10And if p2p was a fraction of what it is now, the *IAA and the government wouldn't care.
- samfishercell, on 09/27/2008, -1/+10So the alternative is either slower downloads or DRM? Who cares. Like 98% of the people who watch this stuff would know how to go about doing this anyway.
This is the same crap that's plaguing gaming right now: spend hundreds of millions of dollars to sabotage your product and hurt the real customers just so you can try to outwit the pirates who think it's a fun puzzle and end up circumnavigating your fancy new system within a couple weeks. bah! - WiseWeasel, on 09/27/2008, -0/+8To the right of your comment...
- whahaa, on 09/27/2008, -2/+10why would anyone want to copy a flash video when they can get a divx or x264 video just as freely?
- franklymister, on 09/27/2008, -1/+9Instructions from the linked site, to save a couple clicks:
1. Start recording with Replay Media Catcher.
2. Go to your favorite video website, and start playback of a clip.
3. Once the content starts recording, close your browser, then open the download folder (Click on Tools | Open Storage Directory).
4. Open the Flash Video Player that comes free with Replay Media Catcher
(Start | Programs | Replay Media Catcher).
5. Drag the file you are downloading into the player, and enjoy instant, ad-free TV!
6. You can close the FLV player at any time—Replay Media Catcher will keep recording your video, ad-free. - BlackHatFerret, on 09/27/2008, -3/+11http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4096093/Replay.Med ...
The errr 40$ program you need. :( - Ratteler, on 09/27/2008, -0/+5There is nothing illegal about archiving content you paid for. It's called Fair Use.
- BlackHatFerret, on 09/27/2008, -3/+8You mean "the DL"?
Hah, Nice pun :] - enclaved, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4Napster was a considerable fraction of what p2p is today. irc and usenet were a considerable fraction of what Napster was. Piracy has been an issue since before 'Don't Copy That Floppy' So your statement doesn't not hold up to historical facts. Sorry.
- franklymister, on 09/27/2008, -1/+5Yup, already been closed:
http://www.applian.com/replay-media-catcher/suppor ... - Darkaged, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4Without people fooling around trying to find loopholes, the human race would be nowhere near it is today.
- angryprick, on 09/27/2008, -0/+4This article is nothing but a plug by Applian to promote their software which takes advantage of a poor streaming server setup by inexperienced developers. They are shamelessly trying to cash in before Amazon fixes their deployment architecture (in the next few days). Know that if you buy their software to exploit this, that you'll be left hanging without this 'feature' in the very near future.
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -1/+5I've found a way to copy and past images in Photoshop. Adobe should patch this security flaw as soon as ***** possible. Big piracy concern right there.
- StevenBullen, on 09/27/2008, -1/+4"However, in tests by Reuters, at least one program to record online video, the Replay Media Catcher from Applian Technologies, recorded movies from Amazon and other sites that use Adobe's encryption technology together with its video player verification."
For reference when it/if goes to the front page. - rowlodge, on 09/27/2008, -1/+4"crashes ", all the reply s say.
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 09/27/2008, -1/+4My heart has a fairy
- MWeather, on 09/27/2008, -1/+4Loopholes sell for tens of thousands of dollars. How much money does your hobby bring in?
- djholybolt, on 09/27/2008, -2/+4we REALLY need to keep ***** like this off of digg, or they will snuff it ASAP.
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Stay away from me sicko.
- Enderplayer1, on 09/27/2008, -1/+3aaannnd now its closed....
- TunaFishGangsta, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Because you are credited with finding the hole. If you start a security company you can make a career out of these kinds of things.
- megaton, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2It COULD be construed as a violation of the DMCA...
- MWeather, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Ah, a couch potato, I see. Maybe you can get Nielson to pay you.
- tomis, on 09/27/2008, -1/+2Well not anymore it isn't.
- blahtastic, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Well, looks like we're stuck walking. Best not try to find a loophole to travel through the air or on the water or anything.
- cubicrystal, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Right. Because of looking for what's NOT there, we have arrived here now - and that here now reflects a society filled with desperate people constantly on the lookout for new ways to distract themselves from reality. Which is - looking for loopholes!
Great logic. Keep on plowing. - Ratteler, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1Wow... only 3 Big Media schills to digg me down for the truth. The economy IS in trouble. What's a matter? MPAA/RIAA bucks as forth coming?
- pault107, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1""It's a fundamental flaw in the Adobe design. This was designed stupidly," said Bruce Schneier.
Whoa, don't get too technical on us Bruce. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1Lol at author not knowing about Bittorrent.
"exposes online video content to the rampant piracy that plagued the music industry during the Napster era" - funkydude101, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1anyone?
- Ratteler, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1Cool. The sooner they take that to court, the sooner the DMCA can be found unconstitutional, and be eliminated.
- Otto, on 09/28/2008, -0/+1Yeah, 3.0 gives me problems. Even the real demo one is broken, it closes randomly for no obvious reason. And older versions like 2.3 didn't work on many sites.
Workaround: Install 3.0 version, let it download the plugins. Save the plugins elsewhere, uninstall 3.0. Then install the older 2.3 version and move the plugins into it's directory, overwriting the existing ones. Now it will work on all those sites too, and it doesn't crash all the time. -
