- Angostura, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14No-one mentioned Macs, that's a pretty raw nerve you have there.
Meanwhile - it's good to see that the BBC itself is already covering the story:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4864072.stm - Quarks, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7How is this news?
From TFA: "After the legitimate excerpt, the hackers embedded a "read more" link that points to a Web site that contains a spoofed copy of the BBC News story from the e-mail."
This happens all the time; linking to fake ebay/paypal/(insert popular website) etc. sites. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think many Digg users are dumb enough to use IE.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Of course it is worse. This site is based on nothing but people sending in links and them being voted on. Slashdot is run by a select few who pick what stories you see. Pull your head out of that small, dark, and smelly crevasse.

Does Digg have any browser statistics? I'm guessing that at least 50% of digg readers use IE. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2. SDbot allows attackers to control victims' computers remotely by sending specific commands via IRC (Inter Relay Chat) channels.
^^ - robinhood8, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2If you're still using IE, it's your own damn fault if your PC gets taken over by a bunch of criminals. And no, I'm not a Firefox junkie.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3
People are still stupid enough to use IE?
They are too lazy to download a browser and learn how to use it, or in some cases don't even know how to install it. They use whatever MS illegally bundles with Windows. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I don't see how this is newsworthy. It's no different to what hackers/scammers/12yr olds have been doing for years - i.e. knocking up rip-offs of other sites to lure the user into thinking that they are on a "legitimate" and "safe" website. While I'm sure this type of tactic lures in a few unwary people, it's hardly a "clever" ploy and you'd have to be pretty clueless to fall for it. Diggless!
- noGoodNamesLeft, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1When I was that age, I made a program that grabbed someone's password by mimicking the BBC Microcomputer's BASIC prompt (and the network login)...I came up with that idea by myself, and I was no uber-1337 h4x0r. Let's face it; using mimickry to grab someone's details is the most obvious trick in the book, and probably always will be.
- DEFSMAC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2i don't want to give anyones ideas. but imagine if someone linked to a page with the createtextrange 'sploit embedded, and managed to get it to the front page. with digg's traffic, oh the humanity!
- tresser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1With all the tech-heads that use this site,I'm still surprised how often people continue to misuse the term 'hacker' Stop being a tool of the media and using their buzzwords.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Is this why Websense is now blocking so-called 'Dynamic Content'? I can't edit Wikipedia pages, or even navigate the Cisco homepage...
- Yarnage, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4lol! As soon as this story got bumped to the second page, in comes the dupe to make sure it stays on the front.
Digg's system needs to be revamped. We are getting too many dupes lately. Digg is worse than Slashdot with dupes. - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1the page you link to have video on it and crashed my browser @&£%^?
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5They are? I'm still smirkin' :P
- nox327, on 10/12/2007, -24/+13there is a very easy solution to this problem, switch to firefox. :)
- waddling, on 10/12/2007, -25/+11People are still stupid enough to use IE?
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -24/+10...but, first, let's shut down fox news! double-yah!
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -26/+7i have a better solution. let's shut down the bbc! yah! :P
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -24/+2yeees. digg.com shall counquer. social tech news for everyone.
