https://www.google.com/voice/fm/069742813050025711 ... - ericfgould, on 10/19/2009, -2/+139There were voicemails that were marked as "public" and to be shared. Granted, it's still creepy that Google indexed them, but the user had to deliberately choose to make them public:
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/10/19/random-u ...
“Since the initial idea behind posting a voicemail, was precisely to share it with others, we did not restrict crawling of those messages that users post on the web, but we can certainly understand that users would want to make them public on their sites but not necessarily searchable directly outside of their own website. We made a change to prevent those to be crawled so only the site owner can decide to index them.” - limbikity, on 10/19/2009, -8/+145sweet jesus, don't let 4chan hear about this one...
- Hercules, on 10/19/2009, -11/+132This is so entertaining, because if MS did this, they'd be deemed evil and it was a plan to do this all along, where Google did it, it was an honest mistake.
*sigh* - kurupttek, on 10/19/2009, -4/+96WOW

We're getting all sorts of creepy calls today because of the Google Voice indexing issue. We passed around the link to some friends on Facebook, but did NOT intend for the outside world to hear it out of context. - sterntastic223, on 10/19/2009, -4/+68Exactly. Don't trust google. That's why I keep my credit card #s stored on my blog instead. That way I can ensure no one will get them. Because no one reads my blog. Because no one loves me. Except for Satan.
- bury, on 10/19/2009, -1/+64The scary part is that it lists the phone number that left each message.
- FirstDigg, on 10/19/2009, -1/+63Currently 29 voicemails playable from this search query: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Ahttps%3A%2F% ...

- sterntastic223, on 10/19/2009, -2/+46This one about giving seven baptisms is really creepy... especially because of the vague apology at the end for the behavior of one of the church officials involved. What went down?!

- johnnick, on 10/19/2009, -5/+36Just shows you the power of a corporate image - a lesson MS continues to fail to learn.

- bury, on 10/19/2009, -0/+24" So we're about to go speedup, but it it up. We've got if if you had sent her. I'd like to see google voice translate this. Charlie truck nobody to. Should be good to go to the got to do. I'm out of the."

- evilawesome, on 10/19/2009, -3/+18TOTALLY OUT OF CONTEXT ALLCAPS BASHING OF OBAMA AND VAGUE REFERENCE TO WHY THIS STORY IS MORE PROOF HE IS THE ANTICHRIST.
- Hercules, on 10/19/2009, -6/+21Yea, but I was just pointing out the double standard.
Just imagine if it was Apple that did this -- they wouldn't fix it for a year, and then the fix would be called a "feature" and Mac fanboys would wear it as a badge of honor, along with their turtlenecks.
***** Macs, and Mac Fanboys. - sterntastic223, on 10/19/2009, -0/+14I think we have to send someone back to stop Google from ever existing. Anyone got a robot lying around?
- Lucid00, on 10/19/2009, -0/+14Close encounter with a dragon
- ell0bo, on 10/19/2009, -0/+14being dyslexic I have enough trouble reading. But dear lord that translator is screwing with my head sometimes.
- Qumahlin, on 10/19/2009, -5/+19attack? its not an attack.
Also HTTPS does not mean "not public"...some people scare me with their lack of knowledge on how the HTTP protocol works. - pokobunt, on 10/19/2009, -0/+13https://www.google.com/voice/fm/069742813050025711 ...
- ChocChunkOaties, on 10/19/2009, -0/+13phone call from butthead!
- Khast, on 10/19/2009, -4/+17You know there is technology to do things like keyword searches. If anyone was actually reading all of your e-mails, there would be a building the size of Texas filled with computers and people working 24/7/365 just to read the sheer amount of e-mail that flows through their servers on a regular basis.
Not saying that it's not possible....but it is very unlikely that they actually give that much of a ***** about individual people. Searching for keywords and having relevant spam is probably the only thing they do. - Rivetgeek, on 10/19/2009, -4/+16enjoy your hotmail
- trogdoor, on 10/19/2009, -1/+13If you put anything on the internet that is *public* ( these were all public by the choice of the user ) it will be indexed somewhere, even if google stops doing it. If you want your voicemail private don't mark it as public, it's that simple.
- tgc1, on 10/19/2009, -0/+12He says it like he's high. LOL.
- renesisx, on 10/19/2009, -1/+13Whoah. Their translator is incredible, IMO. The accent on some callers was strong, but the transcription underneath was near perfect. Damn Google, you scary!
- k1n6, on 10/19/2009, -4/+16Guys.... I'm not convinced these aren't intentionally public..
- Contradictions, on 10/19/2009, -2/+13That's why it's beta.
- azpat, on 10/19/2009, -0/+11I don't even listen to my own VM's but someone elses, oooh, clicky clicky. WTF?
- CrikeyMike, on 10/19/2009, -1/+11Holy Shnikeees!
- apathy9, on 10/19/2009, -0/+9This is pro translating being offered by Google. It translates "Shut the hell up dumbass" as " she'll tell welcome donna office bye "
- PRlME, on 10/19/2009, -1/+10If you got a problem with it don't use it.
