- kd420, on 02/18/2009, -1/+133I was utterly bewildered there for a second since the link contained "poo fap"
- exhalenite, on 02/17/2009, -1/+94hahaha This is awesome. I love the comment by the owner of the company at the end of the article
“The only way to block your number after this is released is to use Spoofcard,” he says with a laugh. - spacemannh, on 02/17/2009, -2/+70You can spoof your caller id using SpoofApp from your cell at http://www.spoofapp.com
- Fishn2, on 02/18/2009, -2/+45PROTIP: Don't use an account with the name of the product you are blatantly trying to advertise.
- Mizzike, on 02/18/2009, -1/+35For those of us with lives, who can't dedicate all their waking hours to scanning Digg, this article will reach the front page as many times as it takes until most people have seen it.
- Mandrillzy, on 02/18/2009, -0/+29wow, not too obvious are you?
- natas06, on 02/17/2009, -5/+32This is by the folks at SpoofCard.com.....AWESOME!
Set TrapCall up on my iPhone and tested it out a couple times. Works great! NICE! - digital0verdose, on 02/18/2009, -6/+32How many more times will we see this on the front page today?
- 11oops, on 02/18/2009, -4/+29This new algorithm kicks ass. On the FP twice within four hours.
- JoeParanoid, on 02/17/2009, -1/+25So much for paying for an unlisted number.
- holzp, on 02/18/2009, -2/+21So is this the new Digg ad system? We gonna get this story on the front page all day?
- jserio, on 02/18/2009, -0/+18FTA:
"TrapCall instructs new customers to reprogram their cellphones to send all rejected, missed and unanswered calls to TrapCall’s own toll-free number... The call invisibly loops through TelTech’s system, then back to the user’s phone, this time with the caller’s number displayed as the Caller ID."
So does this mean all calls are now routed through TelTech's network allowing them to easily listen in on any conversation? Not that it's not possible these days but just curious how this all works and what additional privacy concerns it introduces. - HonoredMule, on 02/18/2009, -0/+18Hey, that must mean they know about caller ID stuff.
... - sativaB, on 02/18/2009, -0/+18Now the stalked can stalk the stalker.
- DrewPeacock, on 02/18/2009, -0/+17I bet it sounded like this: "MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!"
- inactive, on 02/18/2009, -3/+18You still have a landline?
- PizzaEagle, on 02/18/2009, -0/+14That is gross, sir.
- supdude, on 02/18/2009, -0/+13And what law is that?
- Paulorific, on 02/19/2009, -0/+13I can't believe no one recognizes that was a joke.
- teh_techie, on 02/18/2009, -0/+13You FAIL for not knowing how to use your iphone.
Just tap the power button on the top TWICE. That ignores the call. - olyvaha, on 02/17/2009, -1/+14you must not be a "non-technical/sophisticated people"
- inactive, on 02/18/2009, -3/+15On the next page:
http://digg.com/security/New_Free_Service_Reveals_ ... - SpoofCard, on 02/19/2009, -0/+11But wait, theres more....
- panic, on 02/18/2009, -0/+11Why do cell phones not display the name of the caller, but home phones do? I've always been curious about that, does anyone know why? Is it some sort of technical limitation?
- RyeBrye, on 02/18/2009, -0/+11Well... Not really - Spoofcard is just one way to spoof caller ID for a premium price. With most VOIP solutions, setting the caller ID to whatever you want is an extremely easy to use feature.
- mexicant, on 02/18/2009, -0/+11my phone company charges $1.50/mo to block your number and not list it.
- AdamJaz, on 02/18/2009, -1/+11Verizon! Halp!
- douglasr007, on 02/18/2009, -3/+13http://digg.com/security/New_Free_Service_Reveals_ ...
Seriously. - klipseracer, on 02/18/2009, -1/+11Ok, I have my iphone 3g. Works great... As long as the phone isn't locked. How do you decline a phone call when your phone is on standby?? I can mute the call using the volume buttons. But I can't decline the call so Trapcall knows to call me back with the number.
EDIT: The answer is to double click the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your phone. www.hackint0sh.org FTW - RyeBrye, on 02/18/2009, -0/+10Ironically - the same company that has this "caller ID lookup" service also has a caller ID spoofing service.
- stuffradio, on 02/18/2009, -1/+10VOIP is where it's at.
- DuneChild, on 02/18/2009, -2/+11Is there a reason domestic abuse victims cannot purchase (or be given, if necessary) a pre-paid cell phone to make calls to their abuser? It seems this would eliminate the concern that the abuser would be able to use any CallerID information obtained from a disposable cell phone. It works for the crooks on TV.
- teh_techie, on 02/18/2009, -0/+9My cell provider, Rogers, does have Name display...
There's no technical limitation... your carrier is just lazy in implementing it... - ahawks, on 02/18/2009, -0/+8I dugg you because it's a valid question, not because you're right.
There are many services that catch missed/rejected calls. They do this by having the user alter a setting on their account, which tells the network where to forward the call if they do not answer.
By default, all missed calls go to your cell provider's voicemail service.
So it's important to realize that you are REPLACING your voicemail service with this. - yocouchdigga, on 02/19/2009, -0/+8I *****' lol'd
- XenoSNK, on 02/18/2009, -0/+7I dugg them up for trying.
- Mizzike, on 02/19/2009, -1/+8No, it's not hard: I admit, I didn't click through to page 2, sorry. I'm a casual digg user who scans the front page to see what's new, while I have some free time at work. When I'm at home, I have a chance to digg further... but I typically don't have much time to go more than the front page (after I read the stories I'm interested in) while I'm in the office, so I appreciate that this showed up again.
- deenybird, on 02/18/2009, -5/+11it's a PAID service with a recurring fee!
the 'free' option is only free for 15 days when they will start billing you if you haven't canceled.
blegh.... - mblitch, on 02/17/2009, -7/+13This will only work with non-technical/sophisticated people. It will not work at all if Caller ID is faked in the first place which is easy to do if one has their own PBX and fakes the CID entered into the calls (even if contrary to 47 USC 1601(e)). Junk faxers and illegal telemarketers (such as those behind illegal prerecorded calls for satellite TV retailers or auto warranties) tend to fake the info and will do anything possible to not get caught.
- 8randon, on 02/18/2009, -0/+6..barely any. most ppl use skype because it's a) cheap, b) over the internet, c) video
nothing to do with unlocking private caller id - thezanman, on 02/18/2009, -0/+5So is this using ANI? Any technical information would be welcome.
- snagra, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5The Fly Trap plan is Free.
- yocouchdigga, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5it was actually pretty funny too. Come on, digg, keep up...
- inactive, on 02/18/2009, -1/+5Finally I can get my alcoholic step-brother's real phone number the next time he calls me to tell me I am dead to him, after I tell him I won't loan him any more money.
- stilesja, on 02/18/2009, -0/+4Really because in the article it says if you fail to answer the call after it comes back to you a with the call id unblocked it goes to your standard voicemail. I agree, this doesn't really sound possible but thats what the article says.
- frankcow2, on 02/18/2009, -1/+5Boo, not available in Canada yet.
- davidsmero, on 02/18/2009, -1/+5What kind of impact will this have on Skype?
- ileftfark, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4“The only way to block your number after this is released is to use Spoofcard,” he says with a laugh."
Look at me! I read the article! - teh_techie, on 02/18/2009, -0/+4Then why does the loophole exist? If you call an 800 number, your number AIN'T sheilded!
- namtlade, on 02/18/2009, -1/+4Is there anything similiar that's java based and will work on normal mobiles, not just the iphone?
