- Eaststand, on 11/10/2009, -0/+31Now that is fantastically clever. And very like an 80s action movie.
- Abatrour, on 11/10/2009, -2/+29But when the Federal Reserve or the world bankers steal that money they receive a bonus.
- eastwood24, on 11/10/2009, -0/+20Why do these hackers always seem to come from Eastern Europe and Russia?
- boardthis, on 11/10/2009, -0/+15it was only supposed to be fractions of pennies...
- jeffambo, on 11/10/2009, -0/+15Not ***** to do there
- Surferess, on 11/10/2009, -0/+13I liked this part: "They allegedly used an army of flunkies to steal $9.5 million in cash"
Where do you suppose you get an army of flunkies? - lukedamonkey, on 11/10/2009, -1/+9If someone called me a flunkie, i'd take the cash and go home.
- DjBearPDX, on 11/10/2009, -1/+9They hacked the Gibson
- IphtashuFitz, on 11/10/2009, -1/+8If they're flunkies, you can probably hire them for about $10 each... That'd leave you with plenty of profit!
- neutron7, on 11/10/2009, -5/+12Good thing they didnt smoke a joint or something or it would be the death penalty.
- DjBearPDX, on 11/10/2009, -1/+7Wal-Mart
- doctechnical, on 11/10/2009, -1/+5There was a lot less to worry about back when it was just a plain old paycheck in an envelope...
/getoffmylawn - YKKonMyZipper, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4Yo...this is 'insanely great,' it's got a 28.8 bps [sic] modem. P6 chip and PCI bus!
- tgc1, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3It pays to do white collar crimes. The glaring difference between sentencing between white collar crimes vs. petty crime is insane.
- Stoyanov, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3When their only option to avoid jail is to help others by using their skills, I will trust them any day.
- juryben, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Not everyone loves jail. Beside putting them to good use is better than letting them waste our tax dollars in jail.
- Stoyanov, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2They will most likely join the force as consultants after they serve their sentences.
- Eaststand, on 11/11/2009, -0/+2Not really, it sounds like it could of been a feature in any action movie of the time. Nice to know you really care about dates being right, though.
- skipdog172, on 11/10/2009, -0/+24chan
- shnuffy, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2These guys are geniuses.
- tgc1, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2Try your local Congress.
- lateralus, on 11/11/2009, -0/+2Referring to Terminator 2's (1991) silly ATM hack?
- thecoinman, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1Ah but you miss the point sir. They are indeed talented and their accomplishments will most definitely not be overlooked now.
I guarantee that as we speak either the CIA/FBI or some other high profile company is looking at how they can put these guys to work for them. If you look at the countries where these guys come from, its probably not very easy for them to get noticed by a security firm that would be worth working for.
I bet you they had a pretty good idea they would get caught doing this, and that the attention they received might bag them a pretty decent job. - thecoinman, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1This kind of thing happens more often than you would think. You would be surprised how many "security consultants" used to be just like these guys. They obviously have a very useful skill-set and if they are able to hack these computer systems and reverse engineer the credit card encoding they would make a damn fine addition to the company's security team.
- yor1001, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1These guys deserve medals.
- xtc46, on 11/10/2009, -3/+4Would you trust them with working ina job like that?
- boardthis, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1craigslist... http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=5930862&page ...
- JohnnySoftware, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1It's still illegal. Lots of countries respect extradition requests. Imagine calling your girlfriend and telling her you are going to be late for dinner. Really late.
- catvllvs, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1Because of the laws.
I've devised several ideas to net me money but in Australia you can be convicted of a crime committed in another country... still weighing the cost benefits up... you never know :] - juryben, on 11/10/2009, -6/+4I like how they are going to jail.
Instead they should go to work for the Secret Service (they deal with fraud) or the bank.
The government makes perfect sense. - acknotSW, on 11/10/2009, -3/+1Great idea, next we can give some pedo a light sentence and then hire him to take care of some kids since he will know what to look for.
No matter what kind of deal they get, no matter what kind of life they offer them, and no matter what they pay them, it will still pale in comparison to what they could steal with that kind of access and inside knowledge.
Better get rid of your romanticized image of the downtrodden teen hacker doing it for the thrill, today's hackers who can pull off ***** like this are real criminals who had the talent to make a living with their skills but choose crime instead. - ratava911, on 11/10/2009, -9/+5Hope they get sent to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison
