- Konrad9, on 10/28/2009, -1/+18I want to punch a baby every time I see one of those commercials saying "Macs have zero viruses, ever! They never ever break!"
- Loonacy, on 10/28/2009, -0/+13Fake email contains trojan! This is something that's never been done before, ever!
- zoethebitch, on 10/28/2009, -0/+11Anyone who executes an attachment on an unsolicited email probably shouldn't be allowed to use a computer.
- SpazAttack5000, on 10/28/2009, -3/+13They only have fewer viruses because they don't have a large enough user base for them to be worth attacking.
- MScrip, on 10/28/2009, -0/+9>> "Seems like Facebook is the root of a lot of maleware these days."
It's just a regular e-mail that pretends to be from Facebook. It's not malware on the Facebook site itself.
You could get an e-mail like this addressed from any major company... - Akairenn, on 10/28/2009, -0/+9...the pathetically small amount of intelligence necessary to not click on strange attachments, especially in an official-looking e-mail with a reply-to header that doesn't match the sender?
I win. - Subduction, on 10/28/2009, -0/+6It would contain the damage to the virtual machine, but if the virtual machine had network access it could still interact with others and modify itself.
There's nothing unique about virtual machines that would cause them to interact in a special way -- it's just easier to delete and remake machines as they get damaged.
But if you're following even minimally common-sense email protocols you shouldn't even get this to begin with, and if you're savvy enough to set up a VM then you *really* have no exuse. - JediCorran, on 10/28/2009, -1/+6it's still better than myspace :) even with the trojan.
- badqat, on 10/28/2009, -4/+8Seems like Facebook is the root of a lot of maleware these days. Or at least of a lot of neophytes who haven't been taught anything about computers.
Kind of reminds one of AOL, I think, at least from the user perspective. - Khirzask, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4At least there's no maleware on my computer.
- Sux4Bux, on 10/28/2009, -2/+6Step 1 - Email Idiots
Step 2 - ????
Step 3 - Profit! - SpazAttack5000, on 10/28/2009, -0/+4This is why grandma shouldn't be allowed on facebook.
- fxu1989, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3affects*
- inactive, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3RTFA: it was an .exe file. Macs can't run those..
- Obsession88, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3A computer at work?
- m00nmaster, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3Your spam filter sucks.
- adremali, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3FreeBSD?
- motters, on 10/28/2009, -3/+6Only effects Windows users though.
- terpdx, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2Shocker.
- miaow, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2would virtual machines stop these attacks ?
- blackturtleus, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2I received several emails claiming to be from Facebook and I must say that they weren't very convincing. But when in doubt I always check the email header. That seems to clearly identify frauds since the various fields make it clear where the message originated from. It's probably possible to hack the header, but it must not be too easy since most spam pretending to originate from a trusted source is always obviously from someone else based on info in the header.
- Subduction, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2I drive a 1971 Volkswagen Thing and no one has ever stolen it for a joyride, so the 1971 Volkswagen Thing must have better security than all other cars!
- rm249, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2I got this earlier today, ESET picked it up as "variant of Win32/Kryptik.AYV trojan"
- ChromaVita, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1A condom?
- jsp123, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1myspace?
- miaow, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Thanks. I can still foresee a role for VM in the average computer in the future. With only 'safe surfing' being not on the VM mode, such as checking webmail. I dont know why it isnt the norm now.
- brijazz, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1I prefer femaleware…. not that there's anything wrong with that.
- mattsull, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1common sense?
- diggdong, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1As long as they don't breed.
- Rkstar, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1I've gotten this email like five times, it's pretty ridiculous. Holy crap, I just got another one as I'm typing this.
- r3bol, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1I cracked up big time :D
- hockeyfighter09, on 10/28/2009, -1/+1Why don't you go blow your Mac.
- canthraxp, on 10/28/2009, -1/+1You're right, why would Mac need viruses, when their OS is pretty crappy on it's own, they don't need the help of third parties for that. Just login into your guest account.
- chinaumbro22p3w, on 10/28/2009, -2/+0so test it .
- MalikNYC, on 10/28/2009, -3/+1NORTON!
- GregFD3S, on 10/28/2009, -3/+1You digg me down, even though my statement is 100% true.
I use a Mac, so I am not affected by this.
So blow me! - Floobins, on 10/28/2009, -4/+1@Konrad9
They are correct though, OS X still doesn't have any viruses. They have lots of trojans and malware but these are not nearly as easy to pass around because of the way <insert unix style/based os here> works. - fragMasterFlash, on 10/28/2009, -4/+1Trojan brand: the hefty sack of condoms!
Oh wait, we are not talking about prophylactics?
My bad. - GregFD3S, on 10/28/2009, -15/+5I use...
- GregFD3S, on 10/28/2009, -18/+7It doesn't affect me, because...
- GregFD3S, on 10/28/2009, -15/+3Now feel free to digg me down.
- GregFD3S, on 10/28/2009, -18/+4A MAC!
