FakeAP
blackalchemy.to — Black Alchemy's Fake AP generates thousands of counterfeit 802.11b access points. Hide in plain sight amongst Fake AP's cacophony of beacon frames. As part of a honeypot or as an instrument of your site security plan, Fake AP confuses Wardrivers, NetStumblers, Script Kiddies, and other undesirables.

- supernova17, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's be nice if someone made a windows tool.
- wired4christ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it doesn't really work you know, if i remember well the FBI used this to try and fake their access points [it was a demo for showing how easy it was to break into your wireless access points] but the tools they used eventually found the right key they were looking for, whole thing took about 2-10 minutes not sure tho
- wired4christ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Sections-article111-page3.php here's the article, bottom of page the mention fakeAP, read the whole thing though to understand what they did
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's neat, but ultimately not useful. All a program has to do to get around this is simply ignore SSID broadcast packets, and just look for actual traffic. SSID's with actual traffic being passed on them are real. Pretty straightforward.
- ccrook, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Security through obscurity never works.
- exobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No, but it can help.
- blhack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This will get rid of all of the idiots that drive around with netstumbler running hoping to connect to your network and cause havoc. Sure there are linux tools to beat this, but the majority of skiddie morons don't run linux. Chances are if somebody on a linux box is out wardriving they're just doing it for fun, if they DO actually connect to your network it was either
A) Because it was a challenge to see if they could crack your WEP
B) Kevin rose demonstrating how easy it is to crack wep on an upcoming episode of SYSTM
C) Somebody who needed some infobaun access and wasn't at home, don't worry these guys will be nice to your network.
Sure there are still a few assholes that run linux, but the majority of the people that i know who do are not assholes, they are just hackers, in the true sense of the word. - ncamp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I have been looking for an extra layer of protection for my wireless. I have encryption out the wazoo, but I am ultra paranoid!

Another Useful wifi tool. - SDNick484, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a fun tool to mess with people at Starbucks, etc. & it has been around for a while. I just wish it worked on more chipsets beside the good old prism.
