- WiseWeasel, on 01/11/2008, -1/+93Damn deadbeat government. We can't even count on them to spy on US, how can we trust them to fight the terr'ists?
- dominikkom, on 01/11/2008, -5/+95Guess they're not printing out enough money.
- BoneStamp, on 01/11/2008, -2/+76I can't blame them, have you seen cartridge prices?
- Talphin, on 01/11/2008, -0/+71So they have the balls to refuse them service when they don't pay, but they don't have the balls to refuse them service because it's against the ***** constitution ???
- swaddict, on 01/11/2008, -1/+68funny, my phone stopped being tapped when I didn't pay my bill too
- Brad324, on 01/11/2008, -3/+61hey China? Hey, it's me, America. Uh... kinda having some problems with the bills again. What? I know, I know, I just borrowed a trillion dollars. Don't worry man, I'm good for it I swear!
- BoneStamp, on 01/11/2008, -6/+51You know somebody at AT&T got a speeding ticket that day.
- sicc, on 01/11/2008, -4/+32Ha Ha Very good very good
- c130commnav, on 01/11/2008, -4/+21a joke doesn't have to be perfect or completely logical to be funny
- nova912, on 01/11/2008, -1/+17Corporations wanting payment for services == Corporations
- Tiak, on 01/11/2008, -4/+19Corporations wanting payment for services == Corporations controlling the government?... Right...
- pintomp3, on 01/11/2008, -1/+15this is the type of incompetence we can use.
- Ineedanap, on 01/11/2008, -14/+27fascism anyone??? Corporation controlling the government.. just happens to be a good action for once.
- Vician, on 01/11/2008, -3/+16I think he was making reference to the fact that that person was pissed off at the law and, by extension, the FBI.
- bullittcatcher, on 01/11/2008, -2/+13Those wiretaps were not "COURT ORDERED" or they wouldn't be called warrantless. In case you didn't know courts issue warrants.
- Shevanel, on 01/11/2008, -1/+11The goverment's gotta watch out for it's credit; a few unpaid phone bills doesn't help.
- ghostelephant, on 01/11/2008, -1/+11bwahahahhaha!, thas hilarious. it's good to wake up to news like this. FBI's not gonna tap my small time drug runnin ass. and if they do, i have a better case for being a good citizen than they do... i can see the jury "well, he does smoke that devilish MARIJUANA! but he appears to have paid his phone bill on time... "
- protogenxl, on 01/11/2008, -1/+11Hey China, Little Help? - Homer Simpson
- DigTheDoug, on 01/11/2008, -1/+10What happened to you China, you used to be cool...
China still cool! - Tiak, on 01/11/2008, -3/+11Technically it's the digg proletariat hard at work supporting the digg oligarchy, an oligarchy doesn't have to work. :P
- Cyber_Akuma, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8I can't tell if I should be happy that the wiretaps have been canceled or scared that the government actually managed to let them slip by by not being able to pay for them on time...
- Charron, on 01/11/2008, -1/+9This is how you know a recession's coming. The government can't even afford to be evil.
- Scr4tchFury, on 01/11/2008, -1/+8...and then got sent to Cuba when the showed up to court.
- CrazedLeper, on 01/11/2008, -3/+10We don't have to worry about that; there are no terrorists to fight. Ya been bamboozled.
- maexus, on 01/11/2008, -1/+8Corporations giving services for free == Corporations controlling Government.
If they want payment, it's business as usual. - john2kx, on 01/11/2008, -1/+8I think the trillion dollars or so in debt is a slightly bigger concern to the government's credit.
- logiktrip, on 01/11/2008, -2/+8You're dumb.
- Emz82, on 01/11/2008, -1/+7This makes me feel so much better - our company's phoneline went down a few months ago due to 'technical issues' - turns out the accounts forgot to pay the bill. Glad to see we weren't the only ones!
- plizard, on 01/11/2008, -1/+7haha what about auto bill pay?
- Timetheos, on 01/11/2008, -1/+6Republicans don't believe in government, so they can't run government. Period. The executive branch (Bush et al.) can't even spend the money they are given.
And the damned phone companies thought that this was so important they had to break the law, yet not important enough to keep doing it when the bills are late.
Vote progressive. - manicallday, on 01/11/2008, -7/+12This isn't cool. The new director of the FBI is literally tearing that place apart. He first took all of his most experianced agents off the streets and made them spend time at the main D.C. office and now this. So basically the FBI has probably just lost a ***** load of contacts, leg work and intelligence because of mismanagement. This is the age of terrorism and intelligence and we should be doing a better job than this. I'm sure that they will make up for it by infringing on everyones civil liberties.
- BoneStamp, on 01/11/2008, -1/+6Thanks, glad most of you got the joke. Obviously they canceled for non-payment, not because of any speeding ticket... but it's funny to think that's what happened. And the article doesn't mention which telecom, my imagination added AT&T to paint the picture.
- TheSabre, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5I think you're confusing the FBI with the NSA. The NSA is the one that uses the warrantless wiretaps. The FBI has been using court-ordered wiretaps for decades.
- MCShortbus, on 01/11/2008, -1/+6Hey, AT&T did what Congress couldn't: Ended Domestic Wiretapping.
- KingGorilla, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Nah you've changed man
- inigomntoya, on 01/11/2008, -1/+5The government could always declare bankruptcy. Utilities must be restored at that point.
- JAKN, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4if the government was that coordinated, we'd all be in trouble.
- TheSwashbuckler, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Ah the irony, the telecoms will ignore the Constitution to allow illegal wiretaps because it was their "patriotic duty", but they wouldn't continue them because of non-payment? Some "patriots"!
- arniegrape, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4I used to work for a wireless carrier and every time I dealt with someone on a government account, the account was generally 60 to 90 days overdue, and the balance was astronomical. I remember one three letter agency was 120 days overdue for over $120,000. I was told that the reason was that government agencies will only pay quarterly, no matter what. And they're slow when the quarter ends. But the company loved them for two main reasons: 1) Even though they're slow, they always pay--it's not like any of the agencies are going to go out of business in the immediate future, and 2) They don't shop for the best prices or plans because they couldn't care one bit less about how much they pay. They just call up, say "I want a phone that does A, B, and C, please set that up," and then (eventually) pay the bill.
- bullittcatcher, on 01/11/2008, -2/+6power to the proletariat!!!!
- ordig, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4Why don't we just make at&t part of the executive branch while were at it? Bush can can create a department of wiretapping that way.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4If I were you I would ship your computer and everything else in your house back to the corporation of origin. That said, I usually dont practice what I preach either.
- kushed, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4Pathetic, they can't even do something wrong right.
- Timetheos, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4Republicans say that government can't do anything, and when they get elected, they prove it.
Vote progressive. - TypeEE, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3China: I am not lending you any more USD, I'll lend you gold that you have to return.
US: Damn! - protogenxl, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3"As demonstrated by the FBI employee who stole funds intended to support undercover activities, procedural controls by themselves have not ensured proper tracking and use of confidential case funds,"
The Sarbanes-Oxley Act should apply to all Government Agency's. - MessiahCakes, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Contrast:
1. Communist Cuba: night-time loss of energy privileges in residential zones, to conserve the free, government issue energy.
2. Capitalist US: complete loss of phone privileges in government-funded intelligence bureau, for lack of government funding.
It's really hilarious.
Who would have thought.
Capitalism ends up being just as embarrassing! XD - inactive, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4tehxen3,meet blocked option.
- MessiahCakes, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3I wonder if YOU do.....
Because it sounds perfectly adequate to me. Out of a few thousand people talking, only five have the last say.
Every day.
THE SAME PEOPLE.
Oh, oligarchy. -
