- TruckStuff, on 08/14/2008, -18/+104I also blame Bush for Britney Spears, the Indians trading CC Cebathia, and my last bad hair cut.
- sHockz, on 08/14/2008, -4/+70this security hole has been around before bush's legacy....and known about. old news
- urgeigh, on 08/14/2008, -3/+65In other news, George Bush is not fixing my life, feeding my baby or paying my bills. We need to get a real man in office who is going to take care of my every need.
/s - inactive, on 08/14/2008, -8/+57Look, I'm not fan of Bush, but why is everything his fault?
- connieLingus, on 08/14/2008, -12/+59anything so we can impeach / imprison bush / cheney, right?
don't you guys *ever* get tired of blaming politicians for everything? - giggity, on 08/14/2008, -6/+39Since when was the POTUS responsible for DNS? Where in the Constitution is that responsibility?
- toomanymirrors, on 08/14/2008, -12/+42Republicans for small government*
By small government we mean less competent, not to be confused with the small government of less spending and greater personal liberty. - BobSconce, on 08/14/2008, -6/+36Ok. So now we know that not only can't George Bush run a stinking WAR right, he can't even fix a security hole in the government's DNS routers. And, last week, some of my mail was misdelivered by the Bush Administration. I don't even want to talk about the Bush Administration's utter inability to fix the pothole on the interstate by my house. WHAT is that man doing with all of his time?? Why isn't he downstairs in the White House server room patching the DNS servers RIGHT NOW instead of trying to deal with the Russians??
- bigfinger, on 08/14/2008, -2/+29Like Bush knows anything about the internet. The word Bush is only in the title of the article, his name is not brought up once in the context. Besides everyone knows Al Gore invented the internet, it’s his fault.
- D1ckFace, on 08/14/2008, -46/+70Bush and co are deliberatley leaving a gaping hole in security to that 'when' a massive security breach occurs - redirecting all traffic and e-mails, they can bring in the i9/11 patriot act and thus, control 100% what we see on the net. Save all your good links because the net as we know it will be be hijacked in a "false flag" event and then controlled with a new DNS structure under the guise of "internet 2"
http://digg.com/security/i9_11_US_Government_Ready ... - fuzzmeister, on 08/14/2008, -10/+33That's a rather bold statement to make without any evidence. Do you have any? Otherwise, keep your conspiracies to yourself.
- apackofmonkeys, on 08/14/2008, -0/+23I got a ***** ingrown toenail yesterday and the ***** Bush administration didn't do anything about it! They should know most people get them and implemented a plan long ago. Impeach this incompetant moron!
- Sh0ck4, on 08/14/2008, -4/+24Paranoid much?
- strictnein, on 08/14/2008, -4/+23It's clear we need to form a new congressional sub-committee to create a committee to provide congress with a proposal to create a new oversight committee.
- Wargalas, on 08/14/2008, -0/+18you must be new here. :)
- stix213, on 08/14/2008, -9/+23So now this is Bush's fault??? Buried
Al Gore claims to have invented the internet, so isn't this actually his fault??? - inactive, on 08/14/2008, -5/+17Hack the planet?
- strictnein, on 08/14/2008, -1/+12Unfortunately Youtube now directs to RussianManCock.com
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -7/+18Al Gore invented the Internet, and Bush is to blame for security holes?
- terminalcode, on 08/13/2008, -4/+14As with most 3, 5, 7 letter agencies and beyond progress can be slow... trust me from first hand experience..lol
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -0/+10Hack the gibson.
- krnldmp, on 08/14/2008, -7/+17The only evidence you need is that you currently have no power to stop it. Murphy's Law takes care of the rest.
- vexingmodstwo, on 08/14/2008, -24/+33I love it when leftists show how ignorant they are regarding how the government works. I've got news for you: Adding more programs and services isn't going to make it better.
- vbullinger, on 08/14/2008, -0/+9Your name was just taken off the suspected terrorist list. Good work.
- strictnein, on 08/14/2008, -0/+9No
- mistertrogdor, on 08/14/2008, -2/+11I am personally looking forward to having these DNS security holes breached in the near future. It will prove that the current internet is flawed. Therefore, It must be locked down and regulated for the sake of security, safety and stability from all the misinformation trying to clog all the tubes.
If the government wasn't there to hold my hand and guide me to all the correct content, then I might have to actually make my own decisions regarding the validity of information that I see on the Internets.
I am going to thank the government in advance for securing the welfare of my neurons. - MxM111, on 08/14/2008, -0/+7Well, the last thing I want Bush administration do is "fixing" the "internets"
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -3/+10The truthiness of the internet is at stake! We must act now. Who do we invade?
- AbsurdParadox, on 08/14/2008, -2/+9My neighbor's dog keeps getting into my yard through a hole in my fence. Why hasn't the government fixed this?
- delgotit99, on 08/14/2008, -0/+7How dare you rain on a Bush bashing party with facts?!?!
- elbekko, on 08/14/2008, -0/+6Internet 2 already exists. And it's not what you think.
- AndrewMoyer, on 08/14/2008, -0/+6You mean post it on 208.65.153.238 ;-)
- kurtskrap, on 08/14/2008, -1/+7Yeah! Wait...wha?
- t0x2c, on 08/14/2008, -0/+6Woah and vice versa!
- numb, on 08/14/2008, -0/+6Just curious... Am I being buried because people don't think Lessig is a credible source or because they don't know who Lawrence Lessig, Richard Clark, or Vinton Cerf are?
- NeoNevermore, on 08/14/2008, -0/+6Mess with the best
Die like the rest - judicar, on 08/14/2008, -3/+9He also can't fix my garbage disposal, I'll called that bastard 3 times last week, I even left a voicemail and you know what? NOTHING! Not a ***** thing. If Ron Paul was President he'd be under my sink with a pipe wrench in no time flat. Of course the draw back would be him droning on about the gold standard and *****, but that'd be okay. Long as he fixed my ***** disposal.
- johnchr, on 08/14/2008, -1/+7Be it malice or incompetency - the end result may well be more draconian controls imposed over the internet, at least in the US which then has a negative impact on the rest of us.
An "i9/11" event is only a matter of time. - Shaman760, on 08/14/2008, -2/+8Why the hell would you want the Bush administration to "fix" anything? Look at how they "fixed" Iraq.
- inactive, on 08/14/2008, -0/+6Acid Burn?
- pauldy, on 08/14/2008, -0/+6Actually the vulnerability has been there for a long time and people all over have known about it. There are research papers that delve into how it effects all Internet communications and not just DNS services. There are scripts out there that work using this principle so users can set their own hostname on irc servers they connect to. I'm surprised at how many people who wear the term security professional don't recognize the flaw in the just the introduction of how to check for it. It's like all the sudden someone with enough media attention figured out people where using this and wrote up a paper about his discovery.
- iamthearm, on 08/14/2008, -5/+11HAHAHA blaming a DNS update on Bush. Niiiiiiccceeeee!
- gqbriggs, on 08/14/2008, -0/+5They're trashing the flow of data! trashing!
- flashingcurser, on 08/14/2008, -0/+5http://www.trusteer.com/bind9dns
Not an article specific to cache poisoning, though it talks about cache poisoning being a problem in 1998. Yeah cache poisoning has been around a while. The only thing new about this is the way to predict what ports a dns server is going to use to make *slightly* easier to do. Though this is still technically fairly hard to do and takes quite a bit of coordinated effort for the poisoner to get anything useful. - vexingmodstwo, on 08/14/2008, -1/+6*raises hand*
- flashingcurser, on 08/14/2008, -2/+7Hey I just went to google.com and you know what? They're now offering porn services. Can you believe that? All the porn I want and all I have to do is verify my age with my credit card! Life is good.
- strictnein, on 08/14/2008, -1/+6You can't fix things using existing committees and laws. You always need new laws and committees.
- fredclown, on 08/14/2008, -3/+8I'm sure Bush is directly involved with patching DNS issues. In fact he probably should be patching them himself. In case you didn't catch the sarcasm, the title of this article is such flaimbait. People are looking for every excuse to blame Bush. I'm sure this isn't even something that goes across his desk, so blaming his administration for this issue is unfair.
- elementop, on 08/14/2008, -1/+6Look, I don't like the Bush administration any more than the next digger, but for the life of me, I can't see how the DNS security issues are either Bush's fault or his responsibility to fix.
Bush isn't exactly known for his l33t coderz ski11z, right? - numb, on 08/14/2008, -3/+8According to Lawrence Lessig, who happens to be a board member of the EFF:
"I had dinner once with Richard Clark at the table and I said 'is there an equivalent to the Patriot Act -- an iPatriot Act -- just sitting waiting for some substantial event just waiting for them to come have the excuse for radically changing the way the Internet works?' And he said, 'Of course there is' -- and I swear this is what he said, and quote -- 'and Vint Cerf is not going to like it very much.'" -
