- strictnein, on 06/08/2009, -0/+17My father was on an advisory council in the 80s and 90s that was tasked with helping the feds decide what tech should be allowed to be exported, and what should be restricted from exportation to countries we didn't like. He had a security clearance and all that nonsense so he didn't share a ton of info, but based on what he told me: I hope Jeff Moss enjoys long, boring trips to DC and getting his suggestions ignored in favor of business interests. I wish it weren't the case, but it probably still is.

- chuckpoole, on 06/08/2009, -0/+10We is not a skilled hacker anymore. Like most former LoD members, he is a good businessman with good networking skills and a lot of connections. DHS does not need a skilled hacker as much as they need an interface to the hacker community.
- Tiak, on 06/08/2009, -0/+6From the CNET article this is sourced from:
Security consultant Kevin Mitnick, who spent five years in prison on computer-related charges and was once the FBI's most-wanted cybercriminal, praised Moss' diplomacy, but said: "I'm surprised to see Jeff on the list. I would have expected (crypto/security guru and author) Bruce Schneier to be on the council."
Word.
IIRC Schneier was even a consultant to the Obama campaign. - pagno, on 06/08/2009, -1/+7Wow. Knowing they have real and skilled hackers on their team actually scares me more than anything.
