DefCon & Black Hat's Dark Tangent Joins DHS Advisory Council

gizmodo.com.au — "Godfather of Hackers" Jeff Moss, founder of the Black Hat and Defcon hacker and security conferences, was sworn in as one of the new members of the Department of Homeland Security’s Advisory Council (HSAC). And we think it's a shrewd and thoughtful move. Obama seems to be getting serious about cyber security now by hiring "Dark Tangent."

  • strictnein, on 06/08/2009, -0/+17My father was on an advisory council in the 80s and 90s that was tasked with helping the feds decide what tech should be allowed to be exported, and what should be restricted from exportation to countries we didn't like. He had a security clearance and all that nonsense so he didn't share a ton of info, but based on what he told me: I hope Jeff Moss enjoys long, boring trips to DC and getting his suggestions ignored in favor of business interests. I wish it weren't the case, but it probably still is.

I would have expected (crypto/security guru and author) Bruce Schneier to be on the council."

    IIRC Schneier was even a consultant to the Obama campaign.
