- Jaymoon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Quote from a link in the post ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6766841.stm ):
"Gelsthorpe, 32, was convicted of two counts of conspiracy to cause unauthorised modification of computer material."
That could be translated in so many ways it's not even funny. I could be convicted for telling Bob to remove a sentence from Bill's Word document? - wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Followed by "Hacking for Donuts"
- akatherder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I've never seen a story so devoid of information. The headline tells it all.
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Since AOL was founded.
- superheroboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5If people would actually learn, he wouldn't HAVE to write that
- timsdd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Their slogan was : "We break the law so you don't have to" :p
- actorboy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6People thinking they are above the law is not exclusive to any profession. And in many cases, like this one, the law sets them straight on that account.
- DarkDragon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Where in the name "Hackers are us" does it imply anything illegal? >.>
- Whammo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yes, like Erin Moran from "Happy Days" you silly goose!
- richardiscool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1British Justice: 1600-1997 RIP
- soapandfoam, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4"digg that pig"
- mabhatter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1These guys were actually bugging the phones with company uniforms and rerouting phones at the switchbox to recording devices. That's stuff reserved only for the government. It's 10 steps past the whole HP Pretexting issue ... and these guys were officers of the LAW. They didn't get the sentences they deserved by a long shot.
- bieber, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well, lucky for you, you're not arrested and convicted based on the name of the crime, but rather the text of the law that makes it a crime. And I'm guessing that the law in question is actually much more thoroughly defined than just a title.
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Except it was a PI firm so it was people trying to collect evidence for their civil cases.
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I don't know about the UK but this is not necessarily illegal in the US. Say you think your spouse is cheating, you can legally have them put a logger on your home computer. Or say you think an employee is embezzling...you can put them on your work computers.

- richardiscool, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1http://digg.com/tech_news/How_Hackers_Are_Us_worked :(
- l2digg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0glory! this sounds like a couple of whitehats finally figured out how to boot up a PC and use a keylogger. maybe in a few years, they'll begin to write their own exploits and do their own work?
i doubt it ;) - Hangender, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2What? Idiots! Using technology to defeat hackers! What an absurd concept indeed. Police are suppose to use their supernatural intuition to solve cases, not technology!
- CatsAreGods, on 10/11/2007, -10/+4*Morans*?!?!?!?!?
- Kanundra, on 10/11/2007, -12/+3Quit being a grammar nazi! Does it really bother you that much? If so you might want to get out a little more.
