- Shaman760, on 02/13/2008, -9/+39Oh lovely. Guy uses a spoofing service to rectify a situation then goes on to say how "it should be outlawed".
Kinda like smoking a joint and telling your kid "drugs are bad mmmmmkay?"
I find it very hypocritical and disingenuous. - doctechnical, on 02/13/2008, -3/+28I once shoplifted some Pop-Tarts. Can I get on the front page now?
- spudlyo, on 02/13/2008, -0/+18This is why having your voice mail authenticate you via caller ID is a bad idea -- it's easily spoofed.
- cawpin, on 02/13/2008, -1/+18A lot of people are idiots.
- stealth210, on 02/13/2008, -2/+16You may be able to outlaw it for personal use, but it's still easy. As a PBX administrator of about 600 people, the way the system is designed is fundamentally flawed. I can send out any digits over our lines that I want to. I could call you're number and make it say 55555 on your display, so it doesn't even need to be 10 digits.
Now, with that said, it is necessary that it be this way (somewhat). When someone from our call center calls a customer, for instance, we need to be able to send the call center's 800 number and not that of the user themselves. That way, when people call back, it goes back through the regular call center channels and on to any available agent. - missingnoh4x, on 02/13/2008, -2/+14Somebody should call the FBI, CIA, 911, and every other major goverment organization, with their number spoofed to that of the Church of Scientology headquarters.
- rayraym0fucka, on 02/13/2008, -6/+17this is very easy to do yourself with asterisk
- lucutus, on 02/13/2008, -4/+14Dugg for sweet justice
- Stupidumb, on 02/13/2008, -1/+10"bad guys" can find ways to do bad things with anything.
- benkrembs, on 02/13/2008, -2/+10So what's the big deal exactly?? They'd know who it was as soon as they answered the phone.
They day you black out the identity of the evil "Caller ID Spoofer" is when you know you're having a slow news day. - plexxer, on 02/13/2008, -1/+9Dad: Where did you learn to Caller-ID spoof? Huh? WHERE?
Kid: You, alright *cries* I learned it from watching you. Then Google.
Dad: Damn you Google! - dewright23, on 02/13/2008, -2/+9In my hometown we recently had a recorded message from a local bank telling people they had a problem with their account and to go to a web site to correct it. It used this caller id spoof to fake the number of the bank, so a lot of people thought it was real.
- dattaway, on 02/13/2008, -2/+8Packet8 VoIP has this through a convenient web based form as part of their standard service.
- EP3TYPER, on 02/13/2008, -1/+6Yes, it is called ANI.
- djh816, on 02/13/2008, -4/+9The most insightful information normally comes from people who have had some experience with the subject.
- aspec, on 02/13/2008, -2/+7What country are you from where 15 year olds are prepubescent?
- halleyscomet, on 02/13/2008, -0/+5Did you READ TFA? The spoofer was trying to get thousands in back pay from a former employer. He was desperate for a means to get through the call screeners who were giving him the runaround. He also told them who he really was once they picked up the line.
- bwa236, on 02/13/2008, -2/+7in parts of Africa, 15 is middle-aged!
- albundy, on 02/13/2008, -1/+5We commonly use what a lot of folks would call Caller-ID spoofing at the office. When I get a call, if I don't answer it gets forwarded to my cell. The trick is that we also pass the Caller-ID info, so it is transparent that it got forwarded. Very nice.
- Ladadadada, on 02/13/2008, -0/+4What makes you think that he has a "15-year old prepubescent voice" ? The guy has a family... 15 year olds don't have families that they need to take care of.
- CrypticSkeptic, on 02/13/2008, -2/+6In Africa puberty is actually earlier for girls, at least for black Africans, and this is true of them in the USA too. That is earlier than for White or Asians.
- Stupidumb, on 02/13/2008, -3/+7My screen name is CaptainAwesome.
OH *****, I FRAUDED. - bwa236, on 02/13/2008, -0/+4I have some great ideas for April Fools day now! Especially since you can change your voice...
- mastermagician, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3I thought you could only hide your ID. Not change it to any number that you wanted.
- kd1s, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3CLID spoofing is really easy. When our PABX was fed by PRI I could tell the PABX what number to display on outgoing calls depending on which trunk the call went out on.
- jn1167, on 02/13/2008, -2/+5Perfect for those "late Nights at the office". Just make sure all the people in the bar are quiet when you call ;)
- stealth210, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4That is correct. Not sure why this was dugg down.
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/ANI - LaughingBovine, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4GIVE THEM BACK RIGHT NOW!!!
- halleyscomet, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4And yet you felt the need to post.
- pkiln, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Smells like Spoofcard spam :P
Buried... - TheDatabit, on 02/13/2008, -2/+4Ya you are a bit of a dumbass. For 1 not all call centers are outbound centers. For 2...I dunno, I don't really have a number 2 so just consider number 2 to be something witty along the lines of you are a piece of *****
- inactive, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Good for him, and a pity his interview's now taught a million people how to abuse another service.
- Stupidumb, on 02/13/2008, -3/+5The reason it should be outlawed is because it can be abused to cause harm to others. Since it is not outlawed now, he might as well use that technique to reach his goal (a goal which is not harmful to others.). It's not hypocritical because what he is against is the abuse, not simply the use.
- belzoradon, on 02/13/2008, -1/+3dugg up for useful information
- wrboyce, on 02/13/2008, -2/+4All he did was use an online service.. The fact that he works with telecoms is irrelevant, anyone can use google.
- troye, on 02/13/2008, -1/+3Your butt is too tight, loosen it up a little bit.
- Stupidumb, on 02/13/2008, -3/+5I love how the utterance of that word evoked such rage.
- shadowfoxmi, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2who are you? what's your motive? who do you work for? would you quote me? is there anyone else you are talking with?
- bearsinthesea, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2I tried Spoofcard twice (free on their website), and it didnt work either time. First time the call wasn't connected, the second time it connected, but showed the wrong (completely different) caller ID.
Does it work for you?
http://www.spoofcard.com/ - troye, on 02/13/2008, -1/+3Who shoplifts food?
I understand if your poor and starving, but I bet you just did it for the lulz. - weregeek, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2You may not be able to just "download asterisk and start spoofing", but if you are using VOIP termination of some sort, many such providers will deliver whatever CID info you supply. In some cases, they will strive to supply the same information in ANI.
- ATLien74, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Ok i definitley see how this could be abused for criminal activities, and that's not good. But on the flip side, PRANK CALL HILARITY! It almost seems like it was designed more for prank calling people than anything, plus its got built in recording features so you can upload to youtube or whatever. If you could do a good G.W.Bush impression like Frank Caliendo, you could spoof the number from the White House and call up C-SPAN or a live talk show or something and have a good ol' time! haha
- sexydawg, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2In other news, Mr. Columbus reports back to us today that the world is indeed round...
- mobilemonster, on 02/13/2008, -1/+2Maybe i will use it for valentine day's surprise lol
- bxblox, on 02/13/2008, -6/+7Im just tryna get some insight
- signal15, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1You cannot spoof ANI information. It's still traceable.
- ayeroxor, on 02/14/2008, -1/+2I never threatened anybody with anything, Captain Comma Splice. If I'm a "tough guy" then so was Gandhi.
- spudlyo, on 02/13/2008, -1/+2Suddenly I'm not too concerned that you might be a complete *****. I'm now certain of it.
- Sallad, on 02/13/2008, -2/+3Maybe he works in a useful call center. Like for you credit card company who is actually calling to tell you there's fraud happening with your card...
