- RealmDown, on 10/11/2007, -6/+118REAL computers can get a virus. Apples get worms.
- UlicBelouve, on 10/11/2007, -60/+150Pfft. Dugg down as inaccurate. Apple computers don't GET viruses. Moron.
- ihascheezburger, on 10/11/2007, -10/+77Man...I knew it was Apple's fault we have viruses...
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/11/2007, -6/+63Inaccurate. The Elk Cloner was not the first virus, just the first on Apple. http://www.answers.com/topic/timeline-of-notable-computer-viruses-and-worms
Also judging by the message displayed, it sounds as if Skrenta was inspired by the Creeper virus. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -15/+67I dug you up. I hate smug apple toting ***** too man.
- drlha, on 10/11/2007, -1/+27Well, every single criminal in history has come out of a woman, so there's a link right there.
- chuckd, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26Figures... Microsoft has to go and steal yet ANOTHER one of Apple's innovations... *sigh*.
- f4nt0m4s, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23wow, back then viruses were made to entertain and have fun...now it's just to spam penis enlargement stuff and ads on my computer
i miss the days when you didn't *NEED* a virus scanner to keep your computer from blowing up - atomsforpeace, on 10/11/2007, -6/+27We should blame all viruses, past and present, on Apple!
While we're at it, let's blame all women for all crimes ever committed since they committed the first sin... by eating an APPLE! There's no way it's a coincidence. - spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20It's Digg. Sometimes I swear the counters are just random number generators.
- Daveecee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Why digg him down? He's right, and provided the evidence.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23Dear 17 year old punk,
I know you were born the year before I graduated from highschool. Once upon a time there was a computer called the Apple IIe. It ran Apple Basic as its OS. There was no mouse. There was no Dock. There was no OSX or i-anything.
Where in this article did you read that he wrote a virus for a Mac 2 years before that Mac existed?
STFU.
-OC - Simplogic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20i iz getin all on yer diskz
i iz infiltratin yer chipz
yez i iz cl0ner
(insert picture of identical cats here) - UlicBelouve, on 10/11/2007, -20/+38Hrm. Sarcasm doesn't work for everyone.
- Jeffler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18The Apple II wasn't a mac.
- dfdub, on 10/11/2007, -10/+28I dug you up too.
- Terc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17"random number generators" eg: 12 year old voting on whether he understands the comment.
- Sparkster185, on 10/11/2007, -7/+22You get +4 hipster points if you own a Mac.
- james2die4, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10I didn't understand a word you wrote....
- Daveecee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I remember the old "Merry Christmas" virus... All it did was rename any HyperCard stacks on your system to "Merry Christmas"
Mostly harmless - simpleid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10you're going to GET what i POST, so stfu :-)
apples get worms, haha, i just got that. +10 :-) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9*sigh* The Internet has led to the murder of more innocent jokes than all other single piece of technology to date.
- 10001110101, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Just remember kiddies: the password is 'chibacity'.
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Virus Alert! I can't believe I fell for it.
- funkonomics, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Yes, but how does this affect the iphone?
- dorianh49, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9"Insightful" comments are for Slashdot. We need potty humor on Digg.
- break99, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I always said the fisher price are indestructible. The real world is a dangerous place....
- Boondoggle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8You can tell by how hard you did not laugh.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Because whoever wins has the bigger penis! To admit that it's alright to be different is to admit that you have a small penis. There's just no way around it.
- jedikv, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6OR the rest of the ***** world
- disciple83, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Maybe a lesson in sarcasm is needed. It's when you say something with the intent of meaning something opposite, like "You are very perceptive, bizsumpark182." While it could be taken as a compliment, what I truly meant to say was, you're as dense as a brick.
- jeffburg, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10as with many things, Apple started it and Microsoft made it Popular :-)
- Lionstone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6My first thought when reading this was "This is NOT the person I have always known as the first virus creator"
Thanks for clearing up. - irgeorge, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6break99 can't see the forest for all the trees.
- Daniel591992, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9hahahaha!
- carolinaws, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Man, this is getting ridiculous. You're either Mac or non-Mac, Democrat or Republican, black or white, Christian or Atheist (from the Baptist perspective -- anyone non-Christian is therefore Atheist).
What can't we all just get along! : ) - miker71, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6So the virus I got in 1980 on my Atari 400 happened after 1981? But 1980 is before 1981. Um, right?
Innaccurate, and I can testify from personal experience! - bizsumpark182, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I apologize for not being able to sense sarcasm over a computer...
- break99, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4that was uncalled for. I tease mac users with the "fisher price" thing but they are necessary if the industry is to evolve. Diversity is GOOD. The whole fanboy thing is just kidding (for me at least).
The Perferct example: M$ didn't put efforts in IE until Firefox came out.
(this post was brought to you by an M$ fanboy) - nepawoods, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Look, it's simple. "it's a virus" and "it's defined" are both non-trivial properties of partially computable functions. So by Rice's theorem, if you try to write a program which determines whether the function computed by another program is viral, or is defined (halts), then the program will give the same answer for two different input programs, one for which the property is true, and one for which the property is false. Which means that in one of those cases, your program incorrectly reported whether or not the input program was a virus (or halts).
- jfsimard79, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8
Elk Cloner: The program with a personality
It will get on all your disks
It will infiltrate your chips
Yes it's Cloner!
It will stick to you like glue
It will modify RAM too
Send in the Cloner! - aristotle0dude, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3But it was the first widespread virus outbreak according to the link you supplied.
- HyperJack, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Hah. I knew they were behind it !
- ArmandoM, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4It's quite alright...just don't log on anymore and you'll be fine.
- fuckinhell, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Ummm... Since when does a mixed computing environment INCREASE the attack surface?
- gbarger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Funny, I was born in 1981 and I'm 26 now. I think the author has an issue with subtraction. The virus should have turned 25 last year, and should be 25 and could be turning 26 this year depending on the date it was created.
- Lionstone, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Michelangelo MADE Symantec. I remember selling out (quickly) of the Norton Anti-Virus at Egghead Software in 1992. My first thought... Symantec must have created it.
- sv650touring, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2In "White Men Can't Jump" they said it was a quince (Rosie Perez on Jeopardy)
- TheGroje, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You mean one of those supercomputers they use to, like, do physics and look for oil and stuff? That'd be a seriously righteous hack...
- Eldorian, on 10/11/2007, -7/+9Very first virus I ever got on my computer was on my Mac LCIII. Ended up practically frying the motherboard. After that I bought a PC and never looked back.
Kind of weird I know. -
