- Ymeg, on 10/15/2008, -2/+10Hardly.
"Brute Force Attack will take up to 128299838271 years" at 500,000 passwords a second. ElcomSoft is claiming a 20x improvement in speed, but that won't make a dent into an exponential-sized problem. See http://lastbit.com/pswcalc.asp [lastbit.com] for calculation. - cgibbo, on 10/15/2008, -0/+7But can it paint the Mona Lisa? Oh wait.
- theplop, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5Real world example:
system 1: AMD 4200+ X2, Nvidia 8800GT, 3 Gb ram = 322 Million hashes a second
system 2: AMD 3800+ X2, Nvidia 7800GT, 2 GB ram = 20 Million Hashes a second
I cracked a NTLM has in 3:51, completely bruteforce, the password was 6 characters long, which took over 75 Billion hashes to guess.
Now imagine a few GTX 280's....and as far as i can tell, you can run this over the internet. So i assume you can get your friends involved too. :)
its a bummer i cant find a crack for 2.71 :( - duewydo, on 10/15/2008, -0/+4At first I got a little worried, since I am operating a municipal WIFI system, but I call vaporware. Maybe in 10 more years this could be a possibility but for now I am safe. I won’t give specifics about my key(s), just that it/they is/are as secure as WPA2 will allow. Oh yeah and I change it/them regularly.
I just don’t see how you can brute force a WIFI connection that fast. I mean even the most omnipotent super mega computer would be limited to its weak 1~50mbit WIFI connection. you can only send so much data, or attempts. I would hope the noise would become apparent (when no one else can connect to the AP)... - velocity92c, on 10/15/2008, -1/+5inb4 Crysis comment
- rald84, on 10/15/2008, -1/+5and yet it still won't be able to run crysis
- cgibbo, on 10/15/2008, -1/+4But can it run Warhead?
- JoJoDilio, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3THE CABLE IS MIGHTIER THAN NVIDIA!!!
- JoJoDilio, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3you're too late.
- hamobu, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3I wonder how they protect their encryption cracking software from being pirated.
- Ymeg, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Moonboots,
10 upper and lower case characters at twice the speed mentioned in the article will take up to 1719 years. - deadmoo, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2I think the 64 CPU times 4 GPU equals 256 total GPU is a misreading of the Elcomsoft specifications. I believe that each client can have up to 64 CPU and 4 GPU, but you can have 2500+ clients in the distributed system.
- scabbers, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2This fiendish plan can be defeated by using a cable!
- wediggit, on 10/15/2008, -0/+2Agreed, and I'm running it......watch your keys!!!
- DaedalusX, on 10/15/2008, -3/+5Rapidshare scene ?
Hahahahah what a fag! - rowlodge, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1crack wireless ?...to get free internet or what?

- Ymeg, on 10/15/2008, -1/+1or a few thousand years?
- nobleexperiment, on 10/15/2008, -1/+1Well that'll make that new MacBook pro a great buy if you're into that mobile GPU cracking thing against Space Aliens.
- pacmaann2, on 10/15/2008, -0/+0man i wish i had 500 bux to try this.......
- moonboots, on 10/15/2008, -4/+3That's for the most complex passwords with symbols, numbers, and letters. With most wifi passwords, it should take nowhere near that amount of time.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 10/15/2008, -4/+2Regardless, both of these links/stories are about a week out of date now, hello?!
- moonboots, on 10/15/2008, -6/+2goodbye wpa2
- PueSi, on 10/15/2008, -8/+1This will be great for the Rapidshare scene, no more missing passwords. Just leave your GTX280 SLi arrange bruteforcing for a couple of days.
