Those bastards! CBS RAPED MY KIDS! WHERE'S MY PITCHFORK!?! - GopherChucks, on 10/12/2007, -5/+117This is tripe. This is gonna sound like leftist college-student new-age *****, but who can you trust in the news media these days? The sad fact is, *this*, the mainstream media (MSM) is the definitive source for news for a good portion of our population, and what's even sadder, is that there will be no further research done in the topic by anyone except the people who are being accused of mischievously circumventing their parents. I never had to do this growing up, I had complete trust from my parents, and as a token of their trust, I had free reign on the Internet. They of course wouldn't buy me a computer, I had to build that myself... but that's besides the point.
I tire of our futile indignations on stories like this. Problem is, myself and I presume others that share my opinion are too busy or simply don't care that MSM is skewing the facts. This story's problems go beyond the obvious misuse of the term "leet-speak", but is almost a perfect example of the coverage they provide on the younger generation. Without more mature voices speaking on behalf of what Internet culture really is, all we are doing is posting comments on forums. Or as our grandparents and parents may put it, "barking in the dark." That might be more fitting, considering the source and target audience of this atrocity. - ThugEsquire, on 10/12/2007, -3/+93In other news, CBS is retarded.
- wiredclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+89Erm, acryonm would have been a better word. Welcome to the internet CBS.
- hugepedlar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+78Seems they can't even get their acronyms right. Doesn't OMG stand for Oh My God? Aren't CBS allowed to use the Lord's name in vain or something?
And I'm pretty sure POS means something rather different to most of us. - phpkerouac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+69Didnt the mother cooking dinner think something was up with her child sitting naked in front of the computer?
- Th3_anOmoLy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+71And that is exactly why I stoped watching/listening to MSM a long time ago. I'm by far more right wing than left, and to me your point doesn't sound like "leftist college-student new-age *****". In my opinion it sounds like the quickly fadeing concept of common sense.
- thedazman, on 10/12/2007, -11/+78th!5 !5 50 n0t t3h 733t!!!!1
- acevoncash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+66yeah CBS is a POS and i do mean my parents are over my shoulder...
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+61"This is gonna sound like leftist college-student new-age *****, but who can you trust in the news media these days"
This is gonna sound like right-wing corporate boot-licking nonsense, but I agree with you. See, the left and the right can come together and agree on major issues!
I honestly feel bad for those out there who watch their local news and then the CBS/NBC/ABC evening news and feel "informed" about anything. I can't stand watching that ignorant nonsense. - moshisushi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56Isn't leetspeak about changing the letters to digits and stuff (as in 1337 itself)? This is more making-up-stupid-abbreviations-speak...

I would obviously be out to get them. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39because a news organization is getting something terribly wrong thats related to the internetwork, and this is a chance for us to correct them.
- Virtualtaco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39FTA: "There are too many predators out there that could endanger their kids' lives or sexualize them too early," says Internet safety expert and family therapist Barbara Melton. "And leetspeak is just a gateway to all that."
wait... WAIT! Leetspeak is a gateway to being sexualized early?!?!?! WHY THE ***** DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME!! I could have sworn it was a great way to not have sex ever...
Also... CBS just made these acronyms up... I've never seen any of them before...
SMOSONFONSONF(Suck me off slow ok now faster ok now slower ok now faster) - That's some real cybersex right there... these acronyms give me wood instantly.
Although... thankfully... now that everyone thinks KPC is "keeping parents clueless" they won't think it might be something to actually worry about... like... oh i don't know... kiddie porn club?
TTFNOMGLOLWTFBBQ!11!11!! (yea you like that don't you... cause you're dirty... you're a dirty little acronym whore... yea take it in all caps... you know it.) - l0ne, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42j0 ur t00 r1gh7!

- Woofcat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Am i the only one who though pos was "Piece of *****"
- TurboMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -14/+39Erm, actually initialism would be a better word, Since an acronym is an actual word. Examples would include words like radar(RAdio Detecting And Ranging), scuba(Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) laser(Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation)
- MightyGiant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Crap, they can't understand their kids. They must be having sex.

This Poster is Dyslexic - modian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Man, screw these guys for ripping off Rick Romero's patented style of investigative reporting.
- DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I think he meant to use tripe. It's a colloquialism closely analogous to *****.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Pos = Piece of *****
PosPos = Piece of ***** parent over shoulder! :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22The mainstream media caters to a very broad audience, and the vast majority of Americans make up this audience. The audience is dumb overall. I hate to break it to you, but the fact that you're even reading this comment puts you in a smarter group than the average CBS viewer.
Television is a drug. Keep the fatties high on the latest episodes of Lost and they won't feel compelled to write to Congress or protest in the streets. I dare say 12 million mexican illegals have more of a grip on Democracy than this generation does. - TokenUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17What do you mean? Do you read the comments ... half of them are left by 12 year olds ;)
- Matteos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17So I guess CBS thinks FPS is a Freaky Penis Show
- pebecker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16How is GYOP (like the headline says) "get your pants off"? More like, "Get your own pizza".
CBS = Continuous B.S. - hecatomb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Interesting... maybe I grew up a bit more vulgar with the internet... but since when has OMG meant, "oh my gosh"... I always thought it was "Oh My God"...
Or maybe it's different if you're 11. - KaosX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I emailed the station about their "guide"
"Your "Guide" to internet slang had a
few errors in it. It is not called
leetspeak. leetspeach is the conversion
of normal letters to numbers/characters
that resemble the original name. leet =
1337. You have stumbled across
acronyms of which anyone can make
one up. watch. YNTLTRYFI.
YOU NEED TO LEARN TO RESEARCH YOU F'IN IDIOTS
It's not to leave parents in the dark, I
use acronyms to save time, and I am
not a child.
Just thought I would let you know that
you should actually research something
correctly before you report on it." - bigd063, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Anyone else think the 13 year old kid is a little gay for using "BFF"?
- madholepunch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15i'll take the rapists for $200, alex!
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Hey guys I just saw a new story about this terrible "leetspeak" thing! You all are obviously pedophile nerds and addicted to gay hentai and fanfictions if you use a computer, much less the internet. I mean, that's just what the news tells me but they are totally trustworthy right???
Also, playing those violent games like "Pac Man" (A Tupac simulator) and "Mario" (LSD/Mushroom propaganda) will lead you to kill people, am I right?? - karn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15"OMG, for example, is "oh my gosh.""
Did anyone else find that funny? - elitexero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Wait I have one
SNRTTLIBARC
Stupid news reporters trying to look informed but are really clueless - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Ever notice how when the media reports on something you're an expert on, they get it all wrong? Yeah, they do that with *everything*.
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12This article is so ridiculous. Ignoring the fact that they called acronyms leetspeak, they are essentially saying that typing acronyms instead of writing it all out is the behaviour of web sex freaks. I mean, come on, now when parents see someone type BRB or WTF (which CBS probably thinks means What the Frack), etc. they are going to freak out. Why can parents just ask their kids what they are doing? Say, "who are you talking to?", "what does brb mean?", and if you don't believe them then use the internet to find out what it really means. Although I suppose parents these days are morons when it comes to abbreviations because they can't figure out that T stands for teen and M stands for mature and E is for everyone...
- redrighthand, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15First "Ebonics" not "leet"? Isn't there an unjust war somewhere that should be being covered?
- ReXorcist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14OMGWTFBBQTKO
- aresef, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13OMG.....WTF....CBS needs to STFU.
- acevoncash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14O RLY?
- mdshort, on 10/12/2007, -13/+24Everyone's NIFOC when using windows... Bleh.
- LocDawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Now that CBS has blown the cover of the world of online predators and their leetspeak, they will have to resort to this new "teetspeak"!
