- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -14/+89"Remember, remember, the fifth of November"
- bigtimepelham, on 10/12/2007, -23/+83America will take as much ***** as it takes to make people stand up and say enough is enough, which aparently hasn't happened yet
- nawitus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+56And at the same time Americans talk about propaganda news in Soviet Russia etc.. Take a look in the mirror.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -17/+58They're too busy looking around for someone else to lead the change to actually lead the change themselves right now. It'll be interesting to see what happens next.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -9/+46Aww Jesus people...OUR OWN NEWS MEDIA MAKES CRAP UP AND ONLY TELLS ONE SIDES STORIES ALL THE TIME!!! And people are getting mad because this administration planted some fake advertisements?!! It's not right what happened by any means, but I think we should look at fixing the problem at the source....fox....CNN....MSNBC...I'm looking at you.
And people wonder why the Daily show gets better ratings. - Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -16/+45"Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American Public." - P.T. Barnum
- warrenfalk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32"How much more of this ***** is America going to take?"
Since it was pointed out that both popular parties are guilty of this... I would like to ask the question, "who are we supposed to vote for in 2008?"
The problem is that only politicians run for office. - cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25The News channels are not interested in reporting the News anymore, they are only interested in reporting what people want to see. Just take the "Capitol Hill Shooting" of last week. Right from the beginning it was clear that there was just one phonecall and it was very likely that it was wrong or fake. But they tried to milk this story as much as possible. They knew their ratings would go up as long as they can show that nice big "Breaking News" banner on the screen. The news channels have turned into tabloid-tv.
- DoctorBit, on 10/12/2007, -28/+52Never underestimate the stupidity of the American people!
- Amaruca, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29This is what they used to tell us in school as one of the reasons the USSR was so evil.
- FormerRushFan, on 10/12/2007, -9/+31CNN, MSNBC, et al can do whatever they want with THEIR money...
If BushCo wants to "spread the word Republican style" I would invite them to lay off of TAXPAYER DOLLARS - aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Exactly. The news is too opinionated now. It's either you're hearing the republican side (Fox) or a democratic/liberal view and there's no grey area. I just want the news, I don't care for some random opinions... I can my mind up on my own without any outside input. Unfortunately, many Americans can't say the same.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26As soon as Bush attacked Iraq, all news of his invason of Afghanistan disapperaed from American corporate owned TV news and printed news.
They sent the military to do demolition in order to build their damn gas pipeline, with Unocal....and had a news blackout, after the initial attempt to justify the Affghanistan invasion with 9-11 ( the inside job)
Total news blackout. It's all about Iraq, or other things, to distract Americans. Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Mexican immigrants, gay marriage...so many smokescreens. It's sickening! - SniperSlap, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24You Americans have the government you deserve.
If you wanted it another way, you'd do something about it. - solidcube, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Someone's obsessed.
3 references to ass-sex in that totally unrelated screed. - theoallardyce, on 10/12/2007, -9/+27OMGZ Janet Jackson showed her NIPPLE! Can we please PRIORITISE things here and wont someone please THINK OF THE CHILDEREN!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24Slowly and inconspicuously they're changing your point of view.
I call that brainwashing. - gargantuan, on 10/12/2007, -12/+29All over the 'developed' world, we have been conditioned to think of the *only* solution to these problems as the 'last bastion of mob mentality'. That solution is Revolution.
And sitting there reading that you think I'm a nutjob, or a militant doomsday monger. You think the idea of a revolution is too radical. You think democracy will come to the rescue and save us all, that somehow this is someone elses reponsibility. I'm afraid not. Democracy died a long long time ago. Nobody is going to do it for you, especially not when they're getting rich 'not' doing anything. Get off your asses and fix the the god damn problem yourselves, before they go to war with Iran and really ***** everything up. Storm Parliment, storm the Whitehouse. Guess what, there's more of us than them. - Billdozer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22chrisu: By mentioning muslims alongside terrorists, you make them sound as if they are one and the same.
I'd hate to sound like a PC douchebag, is talking up muslims a bad thing? - m0nk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Comments like these are usually indicative of someone being angry about their own homosexual thoughts and tendancies.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Even the once proudly independent BBC has got lazy and allows advertising and spin masquerading as news to be broadcast. They are reasonably good at filtering out the political stuff, but I regularly hear stories generated by PR companies and interest groups presented as "real" news.
- wmarcello, on 10/12/2007, -20/+35Americans (and Canadians for that matter) have been trained not to care. Years and years of governments breaking promises and betraying our trust have taught us not to trust anyone. This is why voter turnout is so low. This is why we are not surprised by this article. This is why government has us right where they want us. As long as our expectations of them are so low, they can do whatever they want.
- ejpusa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15People still watch TV, give me a break. Turned that off a year ago. BEST THING I EVER DID.
- solidcube, on 10/12/2007, -15/+29"Hmm guess if it has anything to do with Pro-Bush it has to be a scandal."
And whose fault is that?
When Bush isn't playing guitar while blacks in New Orleans take their last gurgling gasps, Dick Cheney is out blasting old men in the face. This whole administration has been one long scandal.
George Bush is not a conservative at all. He's accomplished absolutely nothing good in his entire administration. He's not representing you anymore than he's representing the fragile methane lifeforms of Zarquon Seven.
Wake up and smell the coffee, bucko. - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19If you're interested in seeing how you get manipulated by your media, you should watch a documentary called "The Power of Nightmares". It's all about how fear is being used by western governments (US and others) to drive forward their own agendas. It's a powerful argument. How else would a government get the Patriot Act through (for US), or the ID cards (for UK)? Simple - by scaring the public into submission. It's well worth a watch, and it won several awards.

- didymus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18With ***** like this going on, who can blame the iraqi people for not wanting the USA's particular brand of 'freedom' and 'democracy'
- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21look at the list of the fake news almost all of it is from large corperations about there products none about wars. http://www.prwatch.org/fakenews/findings/vnrs it is advertise ment not war propiganda.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17What has the world come to when you can't trust the news.
- lankybutmacho, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16From the article:
"The range of VNR is wide. Among items provided by the Bush administration to news stations was one in which an Iraqi-American in Kansas City was seen saying "Thank you Bush. Thank you USA" in response to the 2003 fall of Baghdad. The footage was actually produced by the State Department, one of 20 federal agencies that have produced and distributed such items." - m0nk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Actually tmenet, if you read the article you would see that there are several points that go along with the title. Here is one of those points:
"The range of VNR is wide. Among items provided by the Bush administration to news stations was one in which an Iraqi-American in Kansas City was seen saying "Thank you Bush. Thank you USA" in response to the 2003 fall of Baghdad. The footage was actually produced by the State Department, one of 20 federal agencies that have produced and distributed such items."
And to jav1231, they only used 2 examples of corporate sponsered ads, so having only 1 story from the Bush Administration isn't lacking in any way. - vramdal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12The problem is that the rest of the world also suffers under the American government. And we didn't deserve it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Thank God for BBC America, is that what most American here are saying?
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13The difference is, in the UK we have very strict rules on impartiality in news - Fox News was once threatend with being pulled off the air in the UK for that reason. The BBC has its own regulator that checks and investigates complaints. I'd like to see your claims about it showing adverts as news.
- Canadiens1160, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The government and corporations have been doing this for quite a while - producing news 'packages' where a new policy or goal is spelled out in a video clip designed to look like a news report, complete with reporter on the scene, etc. Then the local stations pick it up and add their own graphics to it and it goes to air.
- aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16I started hearing about this recently, with the fake company news to promote their products. The fact that the Bush administration plays a part in this shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone, really. Although, Fox News is a pretty reliable source for fair political reporting... / sarcasm
- CedanticPunt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Hey don't forget: "You're either with us or against us".
Therefore by not just towing the right-wing line, you must be Bin Laden's best mate. Die terrorist! - PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Big Money, meaning corporations, will do anything to dupe the stupid masses...what's unfortunate is that the masses have become more and more stupid and numb-headed over the years, particularly since 911, and thus more vulnerable to these F***ing boneheads. Washington D.C. is nothing short of an elitist's haven for con-artists and shysters, mere snakeoil salesman...the Republicans, Democrats, the entire stinking load of them. Maybe someday, hopefully soon, most of us will get our fat heads out of the refrigerator and our asses off the recliner and get a damn clue. ....But I'm not holding my breath! ;-)
- Akyan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I would have to say also I would like to know if you have any cases about them advertising, mainly because the BBC has stupidly strict rules about advertising on the programming channels. Even down to the point where in kids programs they cover over the branding of glue sticks in the art programs etc....
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10TWTANBTT: Utter *****. I'm sorry, you have no clue what you are talking about. You obviously weren't around for the whole David Kelly saga when the government and BBC fought *in court*? Or when the they discovered that Labour plagarised a students thesis for the WMD reports? The BBC are anything BUT the governments puppet and that's how it should be.
The tories claim the BBC is left-wing, Labour claim the BBC is right-wing. That clearly means that both sides of our political spectrum are getting unfavourable news and that means the BBC must be impartial. - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Well the typical American argument for having guns is 'the constitution says we can have them in case we need to overthrow the government' - so you could give that a try and see how it turns out?
- Crashwithuhk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Anyone else see "Wag the Dog"?
- kokobaroko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9>> How are we supposed to do that, precisely?
exactly the same way French did with a law that would allow employers to fire employees (without cause) during their first two years of employment. They ***** went to the STREETS and rioted the hell out of France.
Guess what - government caved in. - ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13Possible missleading news made by the government on tv ---> Ohh that is so wrong! Worth investigating.
Possible human right violations, torture in Guantanamo and elsewhere ---> No one gives a *****. - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8What's your problem? You know they often say that the most homophobic of people are usually closet gays trying to hide it?
- whackaxe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The saddest thing is that even it excalates like AT&T+NSA, no one will do anything about it because hey, life is good as long as you have your broadband, TVs and Fridge-Freezers.
they're boiling the frog. and the frog is called democracry. - Alphabet, on 10/12/2007, -11/+17Most conservatives believe in the "our leaders can do no wrong, and if anyone says anything against them, then they are wrong and are traitors."
They refuse to listen to any bad news against their leader. And if there is bad news, they instantly use the "attack the messenger instead of the message routine." Like if someone says "NSA is wiretapping your phone lines", conservatives will say "the news article is biased, and so they're wrong."
If that doesn't work, conservatives use the "loyalty and protection" route, where they'll say "oh, but the NSA is really only trying to protect you. You don't have to worry about it." - aristotle1990, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9"From far right fox to conservative CNN."
I can't believe I just heard that. You are about as intelligent as my shoe. Seriously. Go watch CNN sometime. Jeez. - jewster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7reminds me of "v for vendetta"....just make it up as we go
