- chaseathompson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Actually here's one more update: AVG is currently identifying GoogleDesktopUpdate.exe and GoogleDesktopSetup.exe as Trojan horse generic5.jjp. Is this an amazing coincidence, or has AVG published an update with yet another false positive? We're working on the solution and will post information shortly. At this point, please note that it's not a good idea to delete those GoogleDesktop files until we know if this is a false positive or not - deleting them could cause problems on your computer!
- MMZTimeLord, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Between the last two AVG updates, I have gotten numerous false positives on files from trusted sources (commercial software).
I will be switching to ClamWin or some other anti-virus until AVG cleans up their crap. I really feel sorry for those with the fully purchased version if they are getting these as the Auto-System scans (which are on by default) tend to move these files into the vault completely or 'heal' them. Either way, the file is useless afterwards. You have to restore all of them. I just had to restore 12 different files. ARG!!! - chaseathompson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Update #3 Added a direct FTP link to Blizzard's site in order to download (and replace) the Fmod.dll file. Also included some quotes from Blizzard employees about the situation. AFAIK, still waiting for a fixed update from AVG. Will post when it comes in.
- chaseathompson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Final update - Solution to issue posted to this website - AVG has released a definition update to their program which should fix the issue.
- chaseathompson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Updated again - this time with a solution, and some more information.
- chaseathompson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Updated 5 minutes ago with more information and a fix for those running Windows Vista. At this point it looks like this is a false positive by AVG
- scotto808, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Yeah...this happened to me today while attempting to launch WOW (on vista). But, before I found your post, I tried to download the fmod.dll by itself from another site. The launcher executed, but when attempting to login, the UI pops up telling me my version of WOW can't be verified. So now I'll restore the original dll from the virus chest and follow your fix. Thanks for the info!
