- Eorster, on 10/31/2009, -3/+28Don't use them. Problem solved.
- MacBookForMe, on 10/31/2009, -4/+15I was doing all those, but still got hacked on a regular basis...
- DraculaConte, on 10/31/2009, -13/+221. Dont sign up on Facebook, Twitter or Myspace, they are nothing but waste of time.

- BenRT, on 10/31/2009, -3/+10Nope, I'm a teenager with real-life friends, unlike many Digg users I presume.
- theguesser10, on 10/31/2009, -0/+5People actually click those things? I mean it's one thing for your mom or dad to click... oh wait, they're on Facebook now...
- djhash, on 10/31/2009, -0/+4Undugg.. reported.. blocked...
- crazyhorse13, on 10/31/2009, -1/+5Don't get me wrong, phones are great for on-the-spot conversations between two people, but facebook reigns supreme for plans between multiple friends.
For instance:
Last weekend was my fall break, and I wanted to get rides home organized with all my other friends. Which do you think is easier? Calling/texting everyone repeatedly in order to get multiple rides organized? Or sending one message to everyone on facebook through which each person can see what everyone else is doing?
The answer is clearly facebook. Phones pretty much fail when more than one person is involved. - crazyhorse13, on 10/31/2009, -0/+3Huh. I've never had a problem with Facebook malware. Oh yeah, I'm not an idiot.
- mkriss5681, on 10/31/2009, -3/+6Most of them are social engineering hacks with phishing websites that look like a sign in to the website to steal passwords. It'll work on any OS.... especially if you a smug Mac user who thinks they are immune to everything online.
- avidlinuxuser, on 10/31/2009, -2/+5He's right though. There are vulnerabilities in the Mac platform, and there are trojans that target the Mac platform. It's more than completely possible that some may go unreported. There are indeed at least a couple hundred known ones too. So it's more than just possible that it's the case that there are indeed lots more trojans then what are currently known, it's likely.
- TheLoneWolf071, on 10/31/2009, -0/+3#1. Don't Download Anything
- crazyhorse13, on 10/31/2009, -2/+5... unless you have real friends and want to be invited to any events they may be hosting.
- orlandogeek, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2@DraculaConte - I'd say something about repeating the same off-base comment on Digg being the same kind of waste of time, but that's a bit obvious isn't it?
- PhillyMJS, on 10/31/2009, -2/+4Macs are much, much less targeted, and you have to go out of your way to get owned while using one. Download something AND provide your password to install it? Come on.
Just about all I do at work anymore is clean those phony (and increasingly tenacious) antivirus and antispyware junk off people's XP machines, and those machines are all running REAL anti-virus/spyware software. I'm waiting to see if Windows 7 is any better at preventing that sort of thing once my clients start upgrading to it. I hope it is, because I want to work on interesting stuff again. If I just wanted to clean malware ***** off people's computers all day I'd be working for Geek Squad. - techtock, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2When I was a kid and wanted to exchange information with all of my friends at the same time, we had to do it face-to-face. Those days sucked. I mostly stick to e-mail and don't use any of the social networking sites, but I don't understand the hate the younger crowd tends to give Twitter. Is it because it you don't have the ability to give a virtual beer? If I had to pick one, I would probably pick that. It has a clean, simple interface where you can keep everyone updated on what you're doing or get the word out to any gatherings to all your friends.
- djhash, on 10/31/2009, -2/+4I hope you are being sarcastic.
- gl77, on 10/31/2009, -2/+4shouldn't Digg be lumped in there somewhere too?
- strangewill, on 10/31/2009, -1/+2I can launch nuclear missiles just by whistling into a phone.
- djhash, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1RTFA?!!
"Don't assume you're safe because you use a Mac" it's not even number 8.. it's number 7. You got bored before you reached number 7? - jcsoc, on 10/31/2009, -3/+4You know facebook can actually be useful sometimes... Twitter on the other hand....
- coreyjkelly, on 11/02/2009, -0/+1I have to object to the closing statement: "It's Not Just a Matter of Common Sense Anymore."
It's definitely common sense. It's the definition of common sense that has changed. We're in the age of technology, and avoiding computer viruses should be just as second nature as avoiding a flu. Sure, viruses are becoming "smarter," but it's a user's responsibility to keep up with that, and to click responsibly. - andy16666, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1Don't run Windows. Grab a copy of a Linux distro like Ubuntu. Mostly people who don't know any better (and people who don't own game consoles) still run windows.
- Travelsonic, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1The people who made the Koobface worm need a serious kick in the balls... hard...
- robinthehood, on 11/01/2009, -0/+1Use fedora or Ubuntu. problem solved. Also does wonders for your inhibitions to banking online. I have little to no fear on the internet now. Virus? What's that?
Oh, and if you truly need windows just install VMWare or Sun Virtualbox. Bam. You got your ***** windows. - djhash, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1Exactly.. people use safe practices when going online. Not click on flashy links, and blocking ads that would out of no where install crappy stuff on your computer. Seriously, these ad hosting companies need to host content from their own servers, not do a million + 1 redirection.
Oh yeah, every time someone invites me to a Facebook Application, I block the App. YAAY.. - PittPanthersFan, on 10/31/2009, -2/+2The article is about viruses and malware. Of course phishing attacks are OS-agnostic, but that isn't what this article is about.
- rseltzer, on 11/20/2009, -0/+0Seriously you dont think Twitter is useful? Take another look, its changing everything. Facebook is an amazing platform, very friend oriented and does have advantages for business (fan pages), however twitter is completely versitile and is growing insanely fast. If you don't think Twitter can be useful check out this article.

Bottom line is you are wrong. Millions of people and business are effectively using twitter as we speak. - Rinnt, on 11/02/2009, -1/+1I'll be honest, TLDR. Is there a short bullet point list I could hand out to my users? I know they wouldn't read it either....
- Brasolis, on 10/31/2009, -2/+2But how will I i possibly keep up with all 400 of my friends!? I don't even know how to contact 390 of them...
- Frixionburne, on 10/31/2009, -7/+7There's this cool social networking tool that won't get your life hacked.
It's called a phone call. Oddly enough, these strange things called phone calls happen to form more concrete personal bonds. Strange, this is.
Myspace and Failbook trainwrecked college campuses. - PittPanthersFan, on 10/31/2009, -7/+69. Use Mac OS X or Linux.
- NeoTechni, on 10/31/2009, -2/+1Yes, that is what it's about...
- swantamer, on 10/31/2009, -4/+3Here's the best way: Avoid both of these lame, stupid and way past their fifteen minutes narcissism platforms.
- artificialgrey, on 10/31/2009, -5/+3Nah - he's not bashing...just ignorant.
- gl77, on 10/31/2009, -6/+3was just about to say "use linux" but you beat me to it.....+1
- mstrebe, on 10/31/2009, -6/+3Huh. I've never had a problem with Facebook malware. Oh yeah, I use a Mac. And when I don't use a Mac, I use Ubuntu. And when I have to run Windows in a VM, I block port 80. Problems solved.
- bunger, on 10/31/2009, -6/+2Yeah, keep bashing those Mac users because they don't run anti-spyware. Sounds like this guy has an axe to grind.
- budboomer, on 10/31/2009, -8/+4You do know you're getting those invites because they feel sorry for you, right?

What is Digg?
