- GTPilot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think it was a video google cookie, wasn't it? i had that one too.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Strange, so this flash applet can access flash-cookies from all other sites?? So is this restricted to flash from macromedia's site or can anyone do this? Seems a bit hokey to do it this way.
Google cookies, psheese. I guess regular cookies just aren't enough for 'em. - BradFive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OMG! The feds are watching!!
This is stupid. You can't do ***** with Flash to mess anyone's machine around.
Just right click on any flash movie. Click on settings and turn the Local Storage limit down to 0k.
It's not like they were hiding anything. - JaredRR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heh... if you're like me and you removed Flash from your system, it's not an issue. :)
I got tired of Slashdot and other sites running Flash adds that just killed my system. On a dual Opteron, Flash makes Windows slow and unresponsive! - diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who cares about cookies?
- missindependent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks for postin this article. i agree with mtyoung folders are still there. i think its best to delete them manually to get rid of folders and cookies alltogether
- Battleman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love Flash.
Only morons don't use Flash. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, it was a google video cookie and a cookie from one other site. I was expecting to see a lot more. Wonder why google would need flash cookies considering no-one else uses 'em.
- scotty588, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can edit those .sol files which are flash cookies with this program. http://www.alexisisaac.net/content/view/16/28/ its pretty neat because some flash games store what level you were on and you can make it so your on the highest one.
C:Documents and Settings[username]Application DataMacromediaFlash Player is where the .sol files are - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Death before Flash.
This is just another example of why I don't use Flash on my machine. You're letting websites run code on your machine. Guess what they're going to want to do with that ability? I'll give you a clue, it probably includes a lot of things you wish they wouldn't do.
If someone told you that in order to view a video, you'd have to download a .exe and run it, would you do it? No? Then why are you viewing these videos on youtube and google video by running code? You have no guarantee it's only displaying video on your screen.
And if you have a laptop (and actually use it on batteries), try turning off Flash for a while and seeing how much longer your battery life is. It takes rigor when programming in order to not waste battery life. You think advertisers when making Flash ads are making sure that they are using as little battery power as possible? Nope, they're just making sure you can't miss their ad by playing video and audio as obnoxiously as possible. - acidronin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 I had 6 flash cookies on my PC. I didn't even know flash kept cookies. Anyway you can get rid of the with out having to go to the web site? Like the folder they are stored in or something?
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Help me. The picture... it moved when I clcked it.... IT'S POSSESED!!!!!!!
- musicgenius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0COKKIE COOKIE COKKIE!!!!!!!!!!
*SMACKS COOKIE MONSTER SO HE SHUTS UP* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I guess they're considered cookies because they can be used to track you via ad servers... or something like that. I don't worry about it cause pretty much everything (javascript/flash/etc) is blocked unless I allow it to run, thanks to few handy firefox extensions.
- mtyoung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I found this explanation
http://www.epic.org/privacy/cookies/flash.html
It has the info from the Flash website plus more. The folder for the cookies were said to be in these folders.
* Windows C:Documents and Settings[username]Application DataMacromediaFlash Player
* Macintosh OSX /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player
* GNU-Linux ~/.macromedia - uziq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I hate flash with a passion. and I leave it turned off unless absolutely necessary (which is just about never).

I went to the website and deleted their cookies, but when I looked on my system there is still a folder for each website that previously had a cookie in it. I don't know if this folder name can be read by the site, or if it really tells them anything besides that I've been there before, but it would seem to be a stretch to say the cookie was deleted, since there is still evidence of it's past presence.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can MacroAdobemedia read the cookies when you use their settings manager?
- inactivist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I refuse to allow that junk on my daily work system. I can do without just about all flash content.
If I *really* need to see something using flash, I use a 'quarantine' (junk) computer that I don't care about, and is wiped and reinstalled on a regular basis. - Greenline, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Very Cool !
- motorbikematt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Damn, I feel stupid. I had not idea. Not a freako about cookies on my system...but gee, I didn't know that Flash would have had their own subset. It's kinda annoying, actually.
Scary that Adobe owns them now.....yikes! - timewarrior, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Test it yourself.

- thetruth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Only morons use Flash.
- frickindeal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Are these really considered "cookies"? I mean, cookies by definition are text files. This seems more like settings that Flash remembers when you return to a site (so the same as a cookie in that respect).
Never had a problem with Flash, and there's too much content out there using it to turn it off. Flash ads are a pain, but I don't see that many of them that it's obtrusive.
Good info. Dugg. - kiddailey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0FYI - You can directly access (and download) the Flash Settings Manager so you can access it from your computer instead of having to go to Macromedia's site. Here's the direct URL to the SWF:
http://macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys/settingsmanager.swf - zone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0pandora uses them also
