- muchlovetoall, on 07/20/2009, -2/+204So, the choice is
1. Allow everyone in the world to sniff my browsing history.
2. give up the ability to see my own browsing history.
Somehow, this doesn't seem right... - doobiebrother, on 07/21/2009, -4/+189digg

- empath, on 07/21/2009, -1/+114It has to do with the a:visited tag in CSS.
http://www.juniper.net/security/auto/vulnerabiliti ...
Basically, the page has a bunch of links to sites, with an a:visited style defined that references a different external file for each site. When you load the page, it checks which files you downloaded and matches them up with their lists of sites. - densetsu23, on 07/21/2009, -0/+109Disable CSS.
With a CSS file, you can make visited links appear differently than unvisited links (e.g. make a visited link purple, an unvisited link blue.)
This site simply renders links to pre-determined sites thousands of links using CSS. Then a Javascript function goes through all the links, and checks which ones the CSS file rendered as visited (e.g. what links are purple text, not blue text).
Voila. A list of your visited sites. It can only tell that you've been to a site if that site is on the list they loaded up. So if their list only has digg and Google on it, then they won't be able to tell you've been to YouPorn. If the list they use *does* have YouPorn on it, though, you've been caught red-handed. - Fishn2, on 07/21/2009, -2/+89I dugg you up because you said "*****" follow by a noun.

Am I even online? - Neo139, on 07/21/2009, -0/+47The service is not available. Please try again later.

- kadio, on 07/21/2009, -1/+40***** you for asking the world's dumbest question. He's expressing his dislike of something in the most pointed possible way. The very strong yet simple quality of his statement makes it so easy to agree with and hence dig.
It's not a meme...it's just a simple and short sentence that has existed since long before the Internet. - ljpants, on 07/20/2009, -3/+39I really don't like the privacy implications of this, is there any way to avoid exposing my browser history without having to resort to something like noscript in firefox or clearing my browser history?

- tmyprod, on 07/21/2009, -0/+29I'm afraid of what that site might actually be.

- CaviMike, on 07/21/2009, -2/+29How have I not heard of spankwire?
*click* - win98sucks, on 07/20/2009, -3/+28bah, it works on FireFox too. If FireFox was the first to fix this I could perhaps convince some of my friends with... interesting... browsing habbits to _finally_ make the switch.
- yocouchdigga, on 07/20/2009, -2/+26it takes a certain amount of wit to successfully pull off a pedobear (or any other meme) in a comment, you have none. stop trying.

Do you know you sound like a wife who's mad at her husband and brings up that one time, years ago, that he looked just a little too long at another woman? - PxCxG, on 07/21/2009, -4/+21Use NoScript and you'll have your history and sites like this won't be able to do anything.
- deadpoetic333, on 07/21/2009, -0/+16Interesting that if you remove adultfriendfinder you have the same browsing history as I do.
- holdenkarau, on 07/20/2009, -0/+15Doesn't use your cookies, would be difficult to read cookies from other sites (that security/privacy scare was along time ago with double click not playing nice). This uses a design flaw with how CSS/link visited works to determine the browser history. If you are interested the javascript file is hist.js , you can take a poke at it for the specifics.
- MasteRR, on 07/21/2009, -1/+14Ad companies have ethics? Not last I checked.
