- fighto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hurray for your cell phone not working!
- kennyg1055, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Kevin Rose did a segment on this stuff...he put like 10 coats on & it didnt do ***** lol
- jarva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This stuff has been around for ever. They did a segment about on TSS way back in the day...
- notkevin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Or you could always just secure your wifi connection.
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dugg for the first comment. :)
- thewordwasgod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I think the mesh needs to be finer than chicken wire, I seem to remember a demonstration with a wire mesh box an AM radio, a FM radio and a cellphone. The cellphone still worked when in the box, and nether radios worked, well mabe the FM one did a little."
it all depends on the wavelength of the RF you are trying to reflect...and you should tune your mesh for that...of course there is no reason that any old chicken wire will be optimal, as i said..... the demonstration you mention only shows that whatever mesh they were using worked well to block the two radio's frequencies, but not that of the cellphone....this doesnt have any direct bearing on 802.11, there are several bands that cellphones can operate on...
just as an example i have a +24 dBi grid antenna sitting beside me designed for 2.4ghz (802.11b/g) and its gaps are 1.4cm (0.55 in) which is presumably optimal - karamba_kid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@kolop1
Okay, didn't mean to make it sound like I was insulting your intelligence or anything, just wanted to make sure you knew what the risks were ;) - anymir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Rice - that's what comment rating is for.
- thewordwasgod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"chicken wire wouldn't work, n00b. it has to be a certain mesh of (copper) wire (fineness and wire gauge). and this is like $45 a gallon for metal flakes in paint."
it sure as hell doesnt have to be "(copper)" why dont you take a read
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_Cage
"Practical Faraday cages can be made of a conducting mesh instead of a solid conductor. However, this reduces the cage's effectiveness as an RF shield."
yes the mesh holes do have an effect, but chicken wire WILL work (not necessarily optimally). people make 802.11 antennas out of chicken wire, because it REFLECTS THE RF ...... so tell me why it wouldnt work?
whats with monkeys on digg calling people "n00bs"- always with the zeros? - RexStJames, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"... or just ban their mac address."
Yeah, because we all know mac addresses are hard to fake...
It's much, MUCH easier to fake a mac address than crack a WEP key, and for the administrator of the network, enabling WEP encryption would be an easier solution too because they wouldn't constantly have to check for new "unauthorized" people accessing the network. - silent1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's the world's remaining supply of lead-based paint, stockpiled by the paint companies who could no longer sell it. This "repackaging" is their latest attempt to pawn it off on suckers. Dawn your tinfoil hats and beware!!
- RexStJames, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No digg, my neighbor might read this!
(I actually am using "borrowed" wireless to write this comment.) - mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And then your cell phone, radio, TV (if you don't have cable), and anything else that requires radio waves to pass through your walls, will stop working.
- spookyct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i would recommend using a security network key on your router instead....
- ReBeLaCe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol thats fun.
- sandfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0+digg because it may be old, but I still haven't heard of it. Thanks.
BTW... secure wireless network? *pssshhh* the only reason the gov. is secure is cause they have trained tech monkeys monitoring every incoming and outgoing packet. And last time I checked they have dedicated private fiber lines transfering all their "confidential" info. - twollamalove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wear a hat mad from these materials so that no can hack my personal network...
- Portfolioso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very retarded. 1) The paint is expensive. 2) How do you use wifi ouside your house (backyard, portch etc) 3) Secure your wifi and that's easier
- schwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Implementing a little security on the access port would be too difficult, right? What does the NSA/CIA use in the way of paints and other wall coverings to stop or dampen RF emissions?
I would like to see this stuff used on the outside and inside of movie theaters to block cell phones. - jayf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll always keep my wired net access.
Cheaper than this paint and faster that wireless too. - TridenTBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know what is easier? USING ETHERNET :D
- Ziggy7273, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This will be big with the conspiracy theorists
- rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0... or just ban their mac address.
- silent1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@harmlessinc: Well ... last I checked, radio signals go through glass ... :-)
- karamba_kid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0First: Update your routers firmware if it is outdated.
Second: Enable WPA-PSK in your routers configuration using an extra long extra random passphrase (go to http://grc.com/pass for a good one). Make a note of this passphrase and input it into all your wireless devices
That should keep all your neighbors off your network. - proglottis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the mesh needs to be finer than chicken wire, I seem to remember a demonstration with a wire mesh box an AM radio, a FM radio and a cellphone. The cellphone still worked when in the box, and nether radios worked, well mabe the FM one did a little.
- silent1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 ... d'oh ... that's "don" your hats. My sister's name is Dawn. :-)
- monticello, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Umm... what if you want to listen to the radio?
- silent1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ thewordwasgod: To me (at my age) anybody who writes "n00b" or "1337" for that matter is almost certainly a newbie themselves. Only a kid or ***** adult would write that way. :-)
- silent1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ monticello: Excellent point!
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 I live in an apartment, and i leave my router open. I did change the password on the router. But I figure if anyone wants to use it they are more than welcome. I only use the Internet an hour a day if that so I don't care.
- codeyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0blah... just add a mac filter. No digg dude
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@karamba
I don't do any on line banking or make any purchases online with any type of credit card. I am behind a firewall and i only use my IM at work. I am a network tech and after looking at computers all day at work I dint really feel like coming home and spending hours on mine anyway. I am also well aware of packet sniffing. I also know with most home routers it even with encryption it is not hard for someone to intercept anything you put through the airways. If you are worried about that then don't go wireless. - karamba_kid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@kolop1
I hope you know that anyone on your network can easily sniff all your Internet traffic that your sending and receiving. Which includes any user name and passwords that are transferred in plain text (email, instant messengers, etc..) also be aware that some malicious person could try to trick you with a fake ssl certificate in order to steal your log-in information for any secure sites you may use (online banking, eBay, etc..) Oh and I hope you do have a software firewall installed on your box or you have at least closed any open ports. You really shouldn't want anyone besides yourself to get on your network or your computer for that matter! - thewordwasgod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"thats why i put copper in parenthesis, because i couldn't remember if it HAD to be copper, but copper is the best. and chicken wire wouldn't be the best. thats why i said chicken wire wouldn't work, because it isn't gaureented to work, like a real faraday cage. and if you don't know what a n00b is, you should leave....the internet."
i know what a "n00b" is, i am just questioning the use of "00", kind of how i think that morons who constantly write "pr0n" are ***** idiots too. kind of funny how you called me a 'n00b' but you are looking pretty much like a 'n00b' yourself ("because i couldn't remember if it HAD to be copper, but copper is the best").
it seems to me that 0.5 inch chicken wire would be pretty much perfect for blocking 2.4ghz rf, and yes it is guaranteed to work. - harmlessinc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Portfolioso said:

Easy... open the window. :) - andrebsd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=169609
Thats an interesting post from you, lol
YES! One of my submitted articles (on anti-wifi paint) is on the Digg homepage right now!
Sorry, but I'm really excited
Check it out:
http://digg.com/security/Anti-Wifi_Paint - holymoses, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yeah rice please don't digg this old *****
- holymoses, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Or you could always report thyis story as spam for linking to a shopping site!
- thewordwasgod, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0stop ***** digging this you ***** monkeys.
you could also cover your house with chicken wire and it would be just as retarded.
this is old as sin and really not worthy of any diggs.
