- peterjmag, on 02/25/2009, -0/+22My card number was one of those compromised. A couple weeks ago, I tried to pay for gas with my Visa check card, and it was rejected. When I called, my bank was like, "Oh, yeah, your card number was stolen. We closed it a couple of days ago, and we've been monitoring the account for fraudulent activity."
Oh, yeah, thanks for getting in touch with me and letting me know. *rolls eyes* - inactive, on 02/24/2009, -0/+10This one got me on one of my accounts. The REALLY ***** thing is that I noticed that my card was going to be replaced before my BANK realized it. I was checking my account online, and noticed a new card issued in my name. I went to the bank. They had no idea, and canceled the new card.
The next day, I get a letter in the mail saying my card may have been compromised, and they were sending a new card. BACK down to the bank, where I get "oh, I didn't realize yours was one of those" excuse! They had to re-order the card they canceled!
The real pisser is that this is a Montana and Wyoming only bank. I THOUGHT I liked the local touch. I realize this breach wasn't their fault, but they didn't take a sec to think about why I might be getting a replacement card? So much for their been handy, close, and local... - Julian88888888, on 02/25/2009, -0/+8(according to the article) Visa and Mastercard know who f'd up, but they won't tell?. . . what the hell.
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -0/+7***** credit card companies...
- Rogor, on 02/24/2009, -0/+7Credit card companies need to get away from the static number system and either implement a electronic hardware one time password system or a non electronic passwindow one time password system. It undermines the biggest payment method funding the net.
- BrendanM14, on 02/25/2009, -0/+6Same thing just happened to me....my big bank said they have been trying to contact me for "days" and I called their BS....by contact they mean sending a letter....gee great thanks.
- 7m7uf, on 02/25/2009, -0/+6Crap, it's almost like i'm the ONLY one that doesn't know my credit card number.
- spritom, on 02/25/2009, -0/+5Has it been a month already?
- benben987, on 02/25/2009, -2/+6Soon all of these difficulties will end.....once you get "chipped".
- LiquidSpark, on 02/25/2009, -0/+4At this point I think people should just assume that if you have a credit card, your data has been stolen.
- elrac, on 02/25/2009, -1/+5If you need it just ask, I'll tell it to you.
- scoottie, on 02/25/2009, -0/+3Learn your lesson and get rid of all your credit cards. They are nothing but evil.
- vbullinger, on 02/25/2009, -1/+4It sucks how the implanted microchip will actually be pretty nifty and convenient most of the time, except for that part when they shut it off when you don't do what they say :(
- BillOReilly, on 02/25/2009, -0/+2Mine too, my card was used to purchase a laptop from HP.
Dumb thieves forgot to change the address on the shipping information.
I also got lucky because that card I had was canceled months ago but they were able to somehow still make the purchase? - kd1s, on 02/25/2009, -0/+2I got a new card in the mail the other day. Here's the thing, this particular card only gets used in two places. Either Walgreens or Price Rite. So one of them got hacked. I do wish they'd expose what happened.
- wibambau, on 02/25/2009, -0/+2+1 for Citi - went online to pay a balance today, and one of the 2 accounts was suspended and a new card is being issued.
- haikuFU, on 02/24/2009, -1/+3I agree. The problem with it is that it would require some extra thought to be able to deal with recurring payments. My satellite radio account charges my credit card every month, and going in manually to do it would be quite inconvenient, especially considering I have a bunch of stuff set up on recurring payments.
- bkraj, on 02/25/2009, -0/+2It better not be the new card I got just this week after it had to get replaced earlier this month....
- MasteRR, on 02/25/2009, -0/+2Wow. What luck.
Last month my Debit got hit by the Heartland incident.
Yesterday my bank called me and my Credit Card just got hit by this one.
Yay security! - MrsRodted, on 02/25/2009, -0/+2Some banking institutions have protection against this. Bank of America does, they have what's called ShopSafe, when you use your credit card/check card online it creates a dummy account number so the real one is not traceable.
- flash84x, on 02/25/2009, -0/+2I was hit by this, Citi wouldn't give me the name of the merchant at the time but said they would send out a letter with the information once they confirm...
- kerouac906, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Citi is in the process of replacing my card - they didnt notify me though, I happened upon the info when I logged into my account. Just so long as the new card doesn't come with a higher interest rate and/or different terms of service...
- Rioracer916, on 02/25/2009, -0/+2My card was compromised as well.
Maybe this is why the FBI is hiring thousands of new agents. When the economy collapses crime seems like a viable alternative. - emt1451, on 02/25/2009, -0/+2ING Direct emailed me about this on January 30th. Now I get an email after every transaction reporting the name of the merchant and the charge amount. I kind of like it.
- philb0t5000, on 02/25/2009, -1/+2Sorry, can't help ya there. I'm too busy on my school computer..and stuff.
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Early+Life+of+Bill+Gates - flaflashr, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1My Visa does offer both one-use and recurring monthly payments using a virtual number called ShopSafe. This was originally offered by MBNA. When they sold out to BofA, it was grandfathered in, so I am still able to use it. It doesn't work where you have to present the card (brick and mortars, Fandango), but it is great for everything else.
- dingedarmor, on 03/11/2009, -0/+1Or someone scans and steals your 'chip' info.....
mwahhhhh
Like any tech is going to be safe... - ZachiusMaximus, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1ha i just got a letter today
- bri719, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1I had an internet bank that sent me a letter saying "we are issuing new ATM cards and your existing cards will no longer work after 11/30". only one problem - I got the letter on 11/29 and no replacement card was ever issued to take its place. luckily I'd just instructed them to close my account before this whole thing went down, and they were in the process of mailing me a check for the remaining funds.
guess what showed up under door the next day FedEx when I arrived from work... of course if I actually needed that card during the day on 11/30 I was still semi screwed. - Rioracer916, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1I got my credit card infomration compromised resently (party outside of USAA allegidly). USAA was prompt about notifying me of the breach and issued me a new card.
It was less of a hastle than I thought it would be, but I don't understand why institutions aren't required to have similar standards for personal information as they do handling and transporting money in all its forms. - visionsofhoff, on 02/25/2009, -1/+2credit, slavery for the modern man.
- Rioracer916, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1To all you guys digging me down. Thanks for choosing to reply with an insightful argument AGAINST the way I use my credit card.
I apologize if my world view isn't as black and white as the average digg user's.
It's nice to know that the digg mob mentality effect is alive and well - bri719, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1nice. too bad their their checking accounts blow (no checks)
- inactive, on 08/07/2009, -0/+1credit, slavery for the modern man.
http://www.manifestmoneytalks.com/business-credit- ... - emt1451, on 02/28/2009, -0/+1i've never had to write a check. i'd rather not use paper when I don't have to
- Khast, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1Don't think it can't happen to you just because you didn't use your card in the last year either..... (My bank whom I haven't used the debt card in over a year called me and told me that my card had been compromised.)
The bank said it was actually Visa's processing system which was compromised....which might explain why they didn't want to disclose who..... - emt1451, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1It affects debit cards too.
- kijijji, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1This one got me on one of my accounts
- Rioracer916, on 02/25/2009, -2/+2Dude, it doesn't have to be slavery. I hate all the melodrama about credit.
I pay my card off every month. How is that slavery? I buy groceries and gas for the month with money, it doesn't matter if it is cash or credit as long as I can afford it.
So I guess eating and going to work (so I can afford to eat) is slavery now? Personally I like the cash back at the end of the year and the cash flow situation that my credit card creates. Free money and no finance charges seems like a no brainer to me. Plus I'll actually be able to rent an apartment, get a decent interest rate on a home, or get a job because I have excellent credit.
It's not my fault you can't resist temptation to buy stuff you cannot afford. - rozlovesben, on 02/25/2009, -1/+1*****!!! again? sereiously?
- headgames, on 02/25/2009, -0/+0My card was also one of those and it was replaced with a new card......no problems so far.

- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -1/+1I know how to google.
- yixiazi, on 03/05/2009, -0/+0Christ! I'm going to have to get my new credit implants removed from my forehead now. And the injection site was just healing too.
- Saphes, on 03/10/2009, -0/+0I was hit by this and one very similar from January of this year, and Discover didn't even offer to fix the problem, until they hit me again on the 5th of this month. Then I called the 800# on the statement and discovered it was a porn site in Los Vegas,NV. Finally I insisted they give me a new number. When they sent me a new card for my husband,( who passed away two years ago and until I sent them a noterized copy of his death certificate,) they couldn't (wouldn't) help me. That's ok, I sent them the copy they asked for, along with the pay-off ballance on the account and bid them a not so fond farewell and went right to American Express...they were only to happy to help me out.
- theberlindoctor, on 02/24/2009, -3/+3Well its a good thing I don't own a credit card then, innit?
- inactive, on 03/07/2009, -0/+0well .. it's better not to carry credit card anyway ..

http://www.capitalonebanking.net - form3hide, on 02/25/2009, -4/+3Yeah, your convenience is much more important than data theft.
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -3/+1Dammit guys i'm doing research on Bill Gates, anyone remember the article that was on Digg (i think) that had all that past history about Gates and his friends using up all the time on their school computers and stuff?

What is Digg?
