- Duston, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20May the malware authors of all flavors be slowly chewed to death be several small squirrels. They make there living at the detriment and cost of others. Kind of like politicians.
- xr56n44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11holy crap, what a lame article. if i want to hear about some dooofus talk about his kid, i'll turn on oprah or "dr" phil
- daggerhart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I couldn't tell that the article addressed the title at all..
so... who makes more money? adware or spyware ? - samsonlonghair, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12I am. I just got payed fifty bucks to debug someones computer.
- dbxz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6lame article...
life isnt all about making money... you should be happy with what you do and who you are as well - Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah, and you're right, it was a lame article. Where did it address "who's making the money?" It was just some guy talking about whether his kid should work for WhenU or not. To which I say: get a clue, pal.
- t3hNinj4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Adware Vs. Spyware: Whoever Wins, We Lose.
- Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5A company like WhenU could never pay me enough to work for them. Unfortunately, there are enough people whose moral compass is broken to keep the adware/spyware industry in the money.
I hate it when I hear about adware companies "cleaning their act up." Hey, even if that is actually a true statement and they are going totally legit now, with no sneaky installs and full, non-confusingly-written disclosure of what their product does, the fact remains that they wouldn't even be able to clean up their act now if their act wasn't dirty in the first place. In other words, they made all of their money through shady, nefarious means, so now they can afford to soften up a little in order to hopefully stay under the radar of potential lawsuits from the likes of Elliot Spitzer. But since their entire business was first built through using reprehensible methods, they shouldn't even be able to get a free pass at cleaning up their act now -- after all, they're funding that effort with their ill-gotten profits. ALL of these companies -- no matter how legit they may claim to be now -- should still be shut down and their owners thrown in the slammer for how they previously made megabucks through the collective pain of computer users. - natmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Misleading title - there's nothing in the article about money flow. In fact, it's quite obvious the author of the article does not understand what Computer Science is.
- WorldGroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh, the adware thing works.
You won't believe this, but I know a person whol though the random popups from IE (even when not on the internet) were just equal to commercials on T.V.. They saw no problem with it, and actually bought things online based on those pop-ups.
Seriously, we're just 'leet computer geeks who want our machines to be lean, mean, dual-booting-WinXP+Linux, absolutely-nothing-running-on-startup-that-we-didn't-explictly-choose machines. Outside of techiez, the concept of what a PC is and what it should do is very... different. - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it depends, if your life revolves around making money, then money = happiness
if your life is about power then power = happiness
personally my life is about amassing the most games I can :) - bogomill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4At least with politicians, you get to choose.
- MrCodeDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This story was lame and the title was misleading. There was no real information given about spyware or adware, nor the distribution of money among either of these two businesses.
- nocode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2but do we really get to choose?
- prthealien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pretty lame.
- mhockey14221, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok I can make up to 12/hr for a retarded company. So what? I thought itd be like which buisness is better.
I dont see any of these buisness models making any money anyways. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Admins who get paid the $$ to remove the adware and spyware junk get paid the most.
Various Charges can include:
* minimal hours
* "put on the bench to examine"
* actual removal
* installing commerical spyware/adware remover
* and the actual time it takes to remove the junk - DigitalPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think the answer is to the question is technicians. $50 to re-install OS. $50 to save any data. The money just rolls on in.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I award this story the most pointless story, ever! This belongs on The Onion more than it does here. This guy wants his son to work for a spamware company, and it's somehow news?
- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The follow up story should be about how much an average lawyer makes, vs. some super successful adware company. Because in the end he decides law is a better choice for his kid.
- rishimaharaj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just got paid $80 to install a hard drive. Go figure.
- gagravaar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Answer: Microsoft. Doesn't matter who the middle men are, Microsoft always benefits in the end.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0hahahah
Get to the choppa!! - athlonmj, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3neither. google always wins
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -20/+3Its not about the Money, John, let your son make his own choices, stop imposing on him.
