- Moose_Head, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What the difference between an infant terrorist and an elderly terrorist? ...Depends.
- CrackedTech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This happened to a newscaster where I live. His son was 8, however according the story they did on it the ticket agent can make the call to let a person in cases where the individual is underage.
You can check that story out here:
http://www.fox2ktvi.com/dynamic/story.asp?category=251
it's about halfway down the page.
This is just another example of how they only create the illusion of safety. - modifiy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3gee what are the odds that two people have the same name in the world. Its gonna happen.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm on TSA's other list, which lets me fly, but I usually have to go through extra security. Sometimes I get my own security line, which has actually saved me time. But usually it makes me get to the airport extra early since it prevents me from printing borading passes at home, and my time at the counter is usually pretty long (they take my ID to a back room to check it). Dumb.
What's worse is that I wrote to the TSA and gave them photocopies of three (!) forms of ID as requested (passport, license, even a military contractor ID badge), and according to their site, they will at least give me a written response of what they did within 6 weeks. I've gotten nothing from them. So now it's a gamble when I go to the airport (seems like some airlines are more picky). - thad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wow our government at work....***** on the people...busniess as usual
- Sofa_King_Jank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2After seeing the TSA employees in the airports across the nation... I can only image what "upper management" is like. This story is awesome. Someone just hack the ***** database, it is probably built in MS Access and maintained on Win 95 anyway.
- rmendis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice to the see the government serving it's people.
The forefathers of this country must be turning in their graves.
"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security."
-Benjamin Franklin - rmendis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"And when we abolish the list, and some jackass hijacks a plane, all the same people foaming at the mouth about the list now can start in with the "They knew who he was, they had his name, why was he let on the plane?" *****."
You think the terrorist is going to use his/her real name?
Get real - a list of names doesn't stop terrorism. - carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4they could avoid all this confusion if they would just go ahead and tatoo everyone going anywhere (say by train) with a unique number or barcode. seemed to work well for germany in the 40's
- LordOfFli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"What did you want? I wish people would stop going with their knee-jerk reactions and actually oh I dont know think."
How about stopping knee-jerk reactions like the (un)patriot act, concocting no-fly lists, and taking away my tweezers. - jpmullet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2 "Terrorism is the best political weapon for nothing drives people harder than a fear of sudden death." --Adolf Hitler
- thad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm all for security, but how about smart security?
how about education?
how about tolorace?
how about intelligence (something our govenment is famed for not having)?
I love this country, its a good place to live. However people are getting so paranoid that we are starting to point fingers within our own ranks as to who is to blame for these things. This is starting to turn into a place I am not liking.
What can i do about it? Not much unfortunately, 1- if i made a fuss over this i would be targeted by our government as a subversive 2- the Typical American isn't exactly intelligent and dont know who is manipulating them to get what those few people in power want. - DogHumpsMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that's right DumbHickmonkey: They knew the nine month old child... blah! why bother?
Gee Mr. I'm Cool Because I Can Call People I Don't Agree With Names Like A Petulant 12 Year-Old, do you really think the nine month old was the person they were looking for, or do you think that maybe, just maybe, it could be that the child happens to have the same name as someone that you might not want to be sharing a flight with?
Oh, and grow up. - aemaeth7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2/sigh
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So the toddler has the same name or a similiar name to someone on the list. They caught it, checked it and let the baby through. What did you want? I wish people would stop going with their knee-jerk reactions and actually oh I dont know think.
Did you even read the whole article? I wonder what you would do if YOUR name was on the no-fly list and even being put on the "cleared list" didn't help matters much. You'd be singing a different tune. - chess007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some babies are a threat!!! I bet they watched Family Guy and saw what Stewie is capable of. :)
The new threat is the highly trained baby operative. Its a baby so it looks harmless. And that's what they want you to think.
Trust your government to protect you from the baby operatives. LOL
People are so paraniod these days. - danx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I too am Dan Anderson. I paid for tickets on Southwest and I noticed I could get a boarding pass online for my wife, but not myself. My guess was I (actually someone with my name) was on some large no-fly-list. I searched for Google and found tihs message. I think this is so funny--a no-fly-list so large to be useless.
I also heard Sen. Ed Kennedy had similar problems. What a joke. - philomatic, on 02/08/2009, -1/+2Since you are all such experts, please let me know how you would secure airports without inconveniencing anyone.
You can't yell fire in a crowded theather! OMGWTFBBQ!!!1!one Terrorism wins! Land of the free my butt! - jo42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They are so frickin stupid. You think a terrorist with half a brain would use his real name and not a forged or stolen identity? Morons.
- danielson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"So the toddler has the same name or a similiar name to someone on the list. They caught it, checked it and let the baby through. What did you want? I wish people would stop going with their knee-jerk reactions and actually oh I dont know think."
The list is *****. Apparently Daniel Anderson is a common name so there is some suspected terrorist somewhere who shares my name (or a similar name), so now I can't print off my boarding passes online (not to mention the other hassles I have to go through at the ariport). Calling the TSA is useless too. I do want to get off the list, but the the pure load of red tape one must go through to get off of it is ridiculous (you should see the form and all of the ID's you have to send it). The list is ineffective and a waste of time. The security at airports needs to become privatized again which is much more efficient (and cheaper). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's easy to get around, all you need is 500 dollars and go to galveston, texas shipping docks and pay the captain of a banana boat or some other shipper from a place such as brazil or such. Once you are out of the u.s. you can pretty much go where you damn well please. It also works in reverse. :-)
- orangetiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not only the no fly list that pisses me off, it's the way they keep track of people. I have a fairly uncommon name, but hispanic. So when I applied for a new apartment I had to prove that I 1) didn't rob a bank when I was 12 in another state 2) wasn't a rapist in the same month across the country, and 3) wasn't paying child support BEFORE those 2 incidents. The problem is that there's no common sense used. I had to prove that I wasnt that person. Or people. They can not use SSn's because of a "security" issue. Then why do we have it? Not even the cops can use it. And if someone is arrested, and gives a fake name, Everyone who has that name has it on their record for the rest of their lives. And very cheap, ***** background companies pick that up and say that your them. so Forget all that for the greater good crap. It's a total wast. But yeah I know it's to make sure i am not one of these wackos, but there needs to be a better way
- 0x1B, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Conservatism. Jingoism. Patriotism. Fascism.
Not that I condone fascism -- or any "ism" for that matter. "Ism's" in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an "ism", he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in The Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was The Walrus. - Moose_Head, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Land of the free? Whoever told you that is your enemy.
-Zack de la Rocha - owenlars, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's funny, because I'm sure terrorists would never think to lie about the name that they used when checking in.
- theologygeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a shame that his first words were "Durka Durka Jihad!"

- CrackedTech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Duston
My illusion of safety comment was not directed at the fact that people have similar names or that a toddler can be cleared from the list, it was directed at the portion of the article questioning the effectiveness of the list itself.
I'm of the opinion that the no-fly list like many other post 9/11 knee-jerk law enforcement actions, while well intentioned have been severely poorly carried out creating more of an illusion of safety rather than an actuality.
Now don't get me wrong I would rather have the government try to do something and be seen to be actively trying to rectify the problem, I just don't think they've made much real headway yet and much of what they have done has created largely unnecessary and mostly avoidable problems. - neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AMERICA!!! F*CK YEA!!!
- pvaculin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The article mentions that attorneys, Congressmen, and the ACLU have all complained and have attempted administratively without success to correct the injustice. There is a deficiency in the article where it is not mentioning any lawsuits that may have been filed. If these people are supposed to be protecting our "due process rights" where are the lawsuits or special prosecutors looking into this serious breach of our right?
- Duston, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Someone knocked up us the bomb!"
LOVE IT! - ghostaliaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am sorry people our gov is smoking something, but thats what happens when you get a bunch of suited idiots to be incharge of our country when we all know that it should be a bunck of us computer geeks running the datavase because we tend to have commonsense unlike those shribbled up idiot suits with not a brain cell insight. ooh I am So scared that a 9 month old child is on the loose, run everyone he or she is crawling towards us. Boy it makes you wonder how these idiots got these jobs of power. I would not let these idiots be in charge to walk my dog.(haha)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0watch out, that baby sure packs a punch when you give it enough lemonade!!!!! watch out world
+digg - Vokas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone knocked up us the bomb!
- groupofone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mom, is that you?
- techtrek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Those 9mo. olds can be ruthless with a box cutter or a pair of plastic spoons to gouge your eyes out. Ever see a 9mo. old mod a dirty diaper into IED? It ain't pretty!
- donsherio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah this is riddiculous! i mean, u buy tickets months in advance, arrive a the airport, find that your late, rush to the gate, and find out that your childs on the naughty list. then u stand there, dumbstruck, seeing the people wanting the plane to leave and u cant do anything about it cause your child who u cant really leave behind in some foreign country is stranded. id say peurge the system and start over.
- mikeyeah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Monkeydoghumper
Did you see the federal report that basically gave the US a big, fat "F" in about every aspect of Homeland Security. I think the only area they got an "A" on was diverting funds that were intended for terroists. Wow, we seem to be headed in the right direction.
So please don't feed me that "you'll be sorry that we don't have these lists when something really terrible happens" jargin. I've already have been forcefed the same ***** from our current Administration since 2001.
Don't give me that - canucksin2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg for the description.
- WiFiHunter4evr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At my work one of the ladies at work her 7 year old son, was stopped for the same reason. I can't believe they're going soo far in security. The next thing will be that they stop a small newborn, or they flag a family pet as a flight risk (sorry Fido you can't fly today your on the list of possible terrorists).
- ferrell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>Voting for Bush wouldn't of made a bit of difference. Granted I hate Bush just as much as the next guy. But Iraq would still be crappy, and I doubt things would of changed for the better if Kerry won.
WRONG! Without bush, there would BE no Iraq problem. Remember, Iraq did not cause 9/11. A sane president would not have gone off to attack Iraq after 9/11. THERE IS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN 9/11 and Iraq. ALSO, bush and the rest of his facist goons have been waiting YEARS to shove something like the Patriot act down the American public's throats. PNAC anyone? - Sentry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LoLz that is so fukin funny.
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"stewie griffin is a baby..."
Wrong...
Stewie Griffin is the best damn baby in the world. - SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0things like this is why the rest of the world thinks we're a nation of idiots.
