- nahsrocketeer75, on 11/18/2008, -1/+17Kind of ironic that a few of these companies to watch are already watching us.
- peterjmag, on 11/19/2008, -0/+10On one page: http://www.networkworld.com/cgi-bin/mailto/x.cgi?p ...
- Carpy, on 11/18/2008, -0/+9Why is Texas so popular for security companies?
- Citrate, on 11/19/2008, -0/+7I hate 'entrance' pages, multiple pages, and surveys when I read articles. Network World is guilty of all 3. Boo Network World.
- shogan191, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7I'm thinking PC Pitstop should be on that list.
- Julie188, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5Bouncer is pretty interesting ...
- buddyw, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2from the Economy of Texas entry in Wikipedia:
"The Austin area is often nicknamed "Silicon Plateau". Dell's headquarters is located in the city's suburb, Round Rock. Dallas is the birthplace of the integrated circuit. The North Dallas area is called the "Silicon Prairie" for the area's high concentration of Information Technology companies such as Texas Instruments and EDS. In addition, Houston based Compaq, was once the world's largest computer companies. After Compaq's merger with Hewlett-Packard, the new owner currently employs more employees in Houston, than anywhere else in the world." - ielephant, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2Ok...let's watch them.
- Mtbeaver, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2Would it kill them to put them all on the same page?
- eviljolly, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2Buried for multiple pages and popups.
- emberjohn, on 11/27/2008, -0/+1Relax..i will keep a watch..
- l33tmike, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1now why couldn't they display it like that in the first place...
- javaroast, on 11/19/2008, -1/+2A 5 page advertisement
- AFelsinger, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1good question
- PaulOwen, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1And they're all in America. What is this, the IT Security Companies' World Series?
No, I'm pretty sure that European and Indian IT security companies are the one to watch. - ScottyMcBaggs, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1The thing with infosec is that the industry pretty much has infinite growth potential atm. It really doesn't matter how bad the economy is, because people still *need* to secure their *****.
- ElectroOverlord, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Paranoid People Probably Populate Paranoid Places Possibly ???
- timster, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Before you read my reply to your comment, would you mind filling out this quick survey? It will only take a minute of your time.
- inactive, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1And without the ad passthrough. I think we should bury these stories to teach people how to submit proper content.
- r00fus, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Low corporate state tax maybe?
Lack of state income tax?
Maybe there're just a lot of companies (of all types) operating in Texas for those reasons. - djnack, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Yup. I live in Texas (Austin) and there are security companies all around. In fact, I work for one. TippingPoint. It didn't make the list though.
- jsffive, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1I would have stuck around long enough to read it, but I got tired of the HP commercial... buried.
- sej7278, on 11/19/2008, -0/+0just click the printer-friendly button to get everything on one page (don't have to print it) without spam ads.
seems like a crappy list to me - its mainly physical (cameras) security and anti-piracy solutions (drm), not what i'd call computer/network security products. how about tennable (nessus) etc? - virtualsnyper, on 11/19/2008, -1/+1Adrian Lamo and his wife Lauren just started one. The press release was last night.
http://realityplanning.com/ - NBRI, on 11/19/2008, -1/+0Good list . I would have to add Hawk Defense to it. http://www.hawkdefense.com/
- kanundro, on 11/19/2008, -1/+0It actually wouldn't be too bad to start investing in some of these firms. Economy might be tanking but some industries just seem to continue to increase in value. And the economy is eventually going to get back on track (so we hope).
If only i had invested in apple stock when it was 14 bucks a pop and everyone was still loyal to microsoft and bashing apple. Its stock is like what now 90? 100? would of made a killing easily.
