I was always acutely aware that, when I spoke, I was taking the words- the ideas- present on the page that I had processed logically and turning them into something else, i.e. spoken sounds. It did not occur to me for quite some time that people actually hear "voices" in their head, essentially reading to them. Doesn't that get annoying?

That is one of the first things you have to correct w/ speed reading. I've always been a fast reader, but I read "aloud" in my head. When I took a speed reading course, that was one of the things they had you practice not doing. I had never realized I did it. Even if you aren't speed reading, you can increase your speed by not doing this. It's pretty easy to train yourself not to do it.

Weird, I can't even comprehend how you understand what you are reading if you are not "reading aloud in your head" LOL. But then I'm also not really sold on the whole speed reading idea, I think reading in general is almost a lost art today. I can't believe how many engineers etc. just don't, can't or won't read anything more than like a 2 sentence email... and then they keep asking the very question the email answered had they bothered to read it LOL.

Part of the way our languages are created, I think. First we had speech, then we wrote words down based on what they sounded like. Sometimes, the meaning of a piece of text (often the case with poetry or songs) isn't clear unless the reader can match the sound of the words to their denotative meaning.

f**k you too Leo Laporte for endorsing this s**t.
I lost all trust in you when you recommended Alienware laptops during one of your shows.

OMG. I have found my long lost brother. I though I was alone for thinking Leo is just not doing right lately.

It's because Alienware debugs the hell out of the promo/review models; I'm sure Leo's was *amazing*, but it's only because AW tested and retested everything. I personally know of two people who blew over $3000 on their AW laptops and spent nearly as much time waiting for servicing/shipping as they did actually using the damn things.
DIGG v.4 SUCKS!!!
