A list of the plugins that are sure to work in 2.1 - rogersmj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Other stuff this release includes was mentioned in this post that made it onto Digg yesterday: http://www.technosailor.com/10-things-you-should-know-about-wordpress-21/
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8So, does it stop crashing from Digg? [grin]
- grammarpolice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You go and try to make something better dude.
- rrbaker, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4Read about the changes: http://wordpress.org/development/2007/01/ella-21/
- foolswisdom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4As mentioned above by idiotkings, go to http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Plugin_Compatibility/2.1 and add your own.
- iliketurtles2, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4I've just upgraded and seems very much the same. I'm quite disappointed that the admin interface hasn't really had much of a make-over :(
- foolswisdom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It is a bummer that the link is to the download instead of the details about the release http://wordpress.org/development/2007/01/ella-21/
- ziki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Awww it's down...figures
;) - Exero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well its the Official Open Source WordPress site, They most likely have it hosted on a server that can handle all the connections.
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Try uploading your WP-Includes files again. Mine looks just fine after updating.
I think you might be missing some files. It might be some uploading error.
Also just in case clear your browser cache. It might be trying to load the old TinyMCE - iofthestorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Especially when they put the nice digg button on that page.
- koick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2spam = s2grace->blocked
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2have fun upgrading
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Am I the only one that thinks unifying the link and post categories is a stupid and confusing thing to do?
- squeaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It was incredibly easy, actually... just upload the new .tar.gz, extract it, and run upgrade.php.
- seaner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am in the process of upgrading and I keep getting MySQL errors. Is anybody else getting these? I am on Dreamhost.
- lifeandtimes, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7I just upgraded my blog and it was quick and painless.I'll go ahead and list the plugins I'm using, as they're all working and some are not on the 2.1 compatibility list.
Askimet v2.0 (bundled with the new wordpress version)
Askimet Spam Count v1.1
Exec-PHP v3.0
Fotobook v1.2
Google Analyticator v1.5
Lightbox JS v2.2 v1.5
SimpleTags v2.0
Social Bookmarks v3.1
Wordpress Hashcash v3.2 - dknighton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Blabster
Tiny MCE is streamlined within Wordpress, however you can modify it's configuration to allow full options. They simply customize it with the most common tools in order to make it simple for anyone to use. - rr525356, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm surprised its not down at the moment.
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey if you are getting errors you might have not have run the upgrade.
So on your blog go to http://www.[MYSITE].com/wp-admin/upgrade.php
Also make sure you update the permalinks after. It should be fine after. - mtek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can we expect a MU update?
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just wait until they add an upgrade option in the admin panel. It shouldn't be too long before it appears.
- Blabster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it just me or the tinymce editor looks incomplete? :
http://i16.tinypic.com/4hus6qr.png - hypografik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Congratulations on this sweet release WP team! Keep up the nice work.
- misterjangles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you don't like the admin interface, there's a plugin called wordpress tiger that changes the look pretty radically. it seems to work with 2.1 ok for me except the rich text editor is a bit glitchy: http://orderedlist.com/wordpress-plugins/wp-tiger-administration/
- timelf123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its back for me right now... Hopefully the caching was improved to be digg-impervious
- ace87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow this Wordpress page hasn't suffered from the Digg effect yet.
- bradkovach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know... Does it?: bradkovach.com [grin]
- slackerbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hahaha! Bradkovach, that was a terrible setup to spam your URL.
Try to get a little bit more creative next time. - MrNRA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would recommend not upgrading to 2.1 if you are a PodPress plug-in user. It was reported in the compatibility site that podpress 7.0 worked correctly but it does not. An update has been released to 7.1, but from all the problems I still see it still does not work properly and may be some time before it is fixed. Avoid upgrading if you plan on using PodPress.
- djAnakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Read the updates. Bunch of new functionality added. Couple things i've been looking for.
http://wordpress.org/development/2007/01/ella-21/ - rogersmj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Rubbb3x, there's a nice plugin that will apply your theme to those files. I don't recall the name of it, but if you search around in the Wordpress codex you'll find it.
- mordak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just updated my site and seems to be working nicely. I was going to upgrade to 2.0.7 last night and found there was this even newer version. Sweet.
- addicted68098, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am not huge with wordpress, more of a textpattern person myself.
- JzzL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wordpress 2.1 no longer supports MYsql 3.23 .... most likely reason that you are getting the errors.
Now I have to wait to see if my host (godaddy.com) is going to upgrade. - BitwiseMcgee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes, one of my plugins (fancy-categories) seems to think 'Blogroll' is a category now...
- codebowl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am a bit dissapointed with 2.1! What they have added seems to be good but they did not take into consideration backwards compatability.
To see what i mean go to http://www.josephcrawford.com and then http://wp21.josephcrawford.com/ look at the categories and blogroll. THey ended up merging the links categories in with the blog categories in the database. Therefore it grabs them all from the database. Now. If you also look down you will see that the blogroll is not listing hmm.. Guess i will have to customize my theme. the new get_links function they provide you with does not allow you to specify the class for the element and also it returns all links with the category as the header. This is fine and dandy if you dont use images for the header and dont need to call the function more than once to get different results. - unscripted360, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thanks for the list of working plugins jooaakim!
- ikotar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have just upgraded my WordPress, translated local.php into polish and discovered that i have some icons in my visual post editor. I can't see img, text align, list and other useful icons. Anyone have such problem? Any ideas how to repair it ?
- hanscats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.jameskelly.org/wordpress-plugins/custom-login-and-registration-forms-plugin/
- cronparser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Any idea if the cache plugin for wp-cache will work with this new version
- poxoe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Impossible! I don't like such articles.
- AdammSelene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The buttons and advanced toolbars in the TinyMCE editor of Wordpress 2.1 can be customized as you like. See http://timrohrer.com/blog/?p=29 for details.
- scomartha, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Awesome. Are you people blind to vote for THIS?
- webplus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1great program which admin got a face lift. runs very nice on my linux box
- bradkovach, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2THEY NEED TO SLOW DOWN! 3 upgrades in the past month. I've been going crazy uploading all of my client's sites!
- hmaugans, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Related to WordPress, the popular plugin Digg This has a big security vulnerability found today. Help spread the word by digging this article:

:) - MrNRA, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I am always nervous about upgrading if some of my plug-ins may not work. Below is a list of plug-ins that were not on the compatibility list. Has anyone tried to see if any of these work?
