- michaelpinto, on 12/19/2008, -1/+11The developer admits that the code isn't that great but this leaves me more encouraged: "Trillr is a standalone Web app that uses JavaScript, but can also run without it. With some tweaking, it can be set up to run in about a half an hour, and is already capable of handling 100 users or more. Aust also says to be on the lookout for a similar contribution in the future -- a "more ambitious project called Trillr1" which has an API that's compatible with Twitter."
- covertbadger, on 12/19/2008, -0/+6Take a look at the source linked in the article. It's not exactly complex...
- Bicx, on 12/19/2008, -0/+6I always like it when developers open-source their code. However, the code for something like this is not that difficult to recreate. Building the next Twitter is not that difficult as far as development goes (well, maybe when you have millions of users). The real value in Twitter is the community, and community is something you can't buy or download.
- HillerMylife, on 12/19/2008, -0/+5The problem is that you can't really use a different social networking app when another one is already ingrained with all your friends.

- Surferess, on 12/19/2008, -1/+5Great line:
"this is our gift to the world" - Xscooterx, on 12/19/2008, -0/+3I think this is a good step to raise th enumber of these type of web apps and give people more of a flavor of what they want.
- freshyill, on 12/19/2008, -0/+3We're still dropping vowels in Web app names? Are we still going ***** for gradients and bright colors, too?
- kouchan21, on 12/19/2008, -0/+2Not for a small community.. But when you reach tens of thousands of users..?
- inactive, on 12/19/2008, -0/+2Direct: https://contributions.coremedia.com/trillr1
- tenchiws, on 12/19/2008, -0/+1In a way, but also thing of all the niche specific Twitters. Maybe a Twitter for sports fans, financial gurus, etc. That's generally how the cycle works. Mass market idea, followed by niche specific copies.
On another note, is it that difficult to make a Twitter clone? - Nouman6, on 12/19/2008, -0/+1twitter is enough, but its a great thing they did here for people wanting to take it a step further and not just deploy 'as is'
- ImprovingTheWeb, on 12/22/2008, -0/+1Oh my goodness, 100 users!
In all seriousness, looks like a great little app. Thanks to whomever created this :) - freshyill, on 12/19/2008, -0/+1Marketing, like the spam you just posted?
- CrushThemTorg, on 12/19/2008, -0/+1You used the phrase "raise awareness about better products." Given the chance, I would punch you in the throat.
- wolfpuncher, on 12/24/2008, -1/+1twitter is probably the most boring thing to happen to the internet in the past 4 years, yet bloggers so full of themselves and needing more ways to waste thier time won't shut up about the stupid thing.
A message to everyone who uses twitter, and ESPECIALLY people who write twitter clients and blog about twitter: GET A ***** LIFE - dotRoot, on 12/19/2008, -1/+0Well you know how it is with Open Source. Its easier to start with a code-base to get going than it is to just start from scratch. Especially ones with a BSD license, so you don't have to contribute back, because that is a good selling point for commercial apps that want to keep their's closed source.
- PhantomRogue, on 12/19/2008, -3/+1Lets see some source code for your twitter emulator there chief.
- forteller, on 12/19/2008, -4/+2I find that very interesting too. I'm an almost fanatic user of microblogging these days (just find me: @forteller on Twitter or identi.ca if you want to verify.. :)) and I'm passionate about Free/Open Source Software. So this is perfect!
But just so you know, there is already an open source microblogging service that is 100% compatible with the Twitter API. It's called Laconica, and you can try it at identi.ca, which is growing to become a fairly large microblogging community. The best part about Laconica, though, is that it supports a standard that anyone can adopt that lets them talk to each other on different servers. So that if I'm on identi.ca, and you're on some other server (or even other software, not Laconica) supporting the standard, I could still follow and @ you. Pretty cool!
Check them out:

http://identi.ca/ - erku, on 12/19/2008, -9/+1Social networks are very popular these days. One of the latest is the http://www.reizit.com/ which helps to raise awareness about better products and is like a marketing social network.
