http://buildinternet.com/2009/03/sliding-boxes-and ... - daemon, on 04/13/2009, -2/+19Nice example but where's the code and metadata?
- chewbacca77, on 04/13/2009, -0/+13That's creepy. I was just learning about jQuery and looking at Digg's source to see if they used any, and I encountered this.
Check out jQuery UI while you're at it. They automate some common stuff: http://jqueryui.com/demos/draggable/ - killeryugi, on 04/13/2009, -1/+12E=mc^2
That's it. - Eorster, on 04/13/2009, -1/+10Just because you can does not mean you should.
- zwaldowski, on 04/13/2009, -0/+6jQuery. It's very tiny, but very complete. It's also VERY easy to use on your (the web dev's) end.
- KragTheDigger, on 04/13/2009, -4/+9Looks great. And then I ask myself: how is this Accessible to people not using a mouse? Actually, I'll ask you, because I have no answer: how is this Accessible to people not using a mouse?
- m0tbaillie, on 04/13/2009, -0/+5jQuery is loads better than Prototype/Mootools.
- KSUdesigner, on 04/13/2009, -1/+6I think you mean people who use screen readers, right? It's pretty accessible to screen readers, because all that information is there in the normal HTML markup, you just use jquery to show/hide the info.
- falafelkiosken, on 04/13/2009, -1/+5var that = 'it';
- zwaldowski, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4@noalarms: For what it does (and for being a JavaScript library), it's ***** huge, does very little, and has complicated syntax.
- jakem1, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3Perhaps he's referring to people using a touchscreen.
- Wumbus, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3If anyone's interested in more examples of jQuery animation, I'd recommend this other tutorial:
http://buildinternet.com/2009/02/how-to-make-an-im ... - fuzzybad, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2I switched from Mootools to jQuery about a year ago and haven't looked back. jQuery does for JavaScript what Perl did for system scripting -- it makes easy things easy and hard things possible.
- nourayehia, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2no worries bigpun :)
- malechite, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Maybe this would work way better if it showed the name to begin with and it disappeared when you moused over the photo, so that you can see more of the photo.... otherwise its just distracting
- rampurhaat, on 09/28/2009, -0/+1People seem to love JQuery - so do I. Cool thing.
Online literature: http://www.webliterature.net - seedsofwar, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1I've been slowly moving to jQuery from Prototype. Prototype has a lot of powerful and useful stuff, but jQuery's lighter footprint and natural alignment with behavior-based javascript make it a better fit.
- rameznabel, on 04/13/2009, -2/+3who is the ***** that digging you down ,this good question specially in the rising of the internet mobile browsing iphone / android
- stef686, on 04/29/2009, -0/+1Nice effects, will definately come in handy
- KragTheDigger, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1You are correct: for screen reader users, the info would be read. In the sample page, it seems that the order in which the info would be read is also appropriate (although the img tags didn't have alt attributes). Sorry for the silly question, I should have checked the source first.
- inkswamp, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1Neat, but it's sort of depressing to see these kinds of things. Doesn't anyone out there nowadays want to code these kinds of things themselves? Personally, I think it's an amazing experience to figure out how to write your own code from scratch to do this instead of plugging in some canned library.
- jimmysilvs, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1the last box has a link back to the tut.
- bigpun, on 04/13/2009, -5/+5View the source and the code's right there. It's simple enough to understand without the need for a lengthy article - dugg just for that!
- bigpun, on 04/13/2009, -4/+4Damn Digg comments - I actually clicked to reply to the first thread but it's stuck the reply here. Apologies nourayehia
- gladius, on 04/13/2009, -1/+1Thanks!
- amroyce, on 04/13/2009, -3/+3Cool. Can you please elaborate on this?
- chadsmith729, on 04/13/2009, -1/+1Oh, cool. I really am starting to switch from Scripty and MooTools. This just helps me move faster. This is a great effect. I know a few clients that will really be able to use this very well. Such I create a PDF on the fly, capture a picture of the front page (which I already do), now I will put the jQuery in action and allow them to roll over to see when they made it and download it. Nice.
- deanpcmad, on 04/13/2009, -5/+4Probably have to view source which is kinda annoying.
- serif69, on 04/13/2009, -15/+9$(".class1").hover(
function(){$(".class2").stop().animate({top:'distance1'},{queue:false,duration:'time'})},
function(){$(".class2").stop().animate({top:'distance2'},{queue:false,duration:'time'})}
);
That's it. Front page for that. <facepalm>
