- nTensify, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23aalib is a programming library that allows someone to convert an image into ascii text using a bit of math. In fact, it's fast enough to be used with video codecs for playback of standard definition movies (a famous example was the Star Wars Episode 2 and The Matrix renderings in ASCII).
If you use VLC, you have the option of watching any movie using AALib:
Go into Preferences, choose "Video", then choose "Output Modules" and check the "Advanced Options" box at the bottom. It lets you view a unix GUI in text mode. Not only that, but you can open up a command-line terminal in the GUI, and view text rendered in GUI fonts, then rendered back into text. Mind-bending.

Quentin Zervaas wrote a very cool script called pngmatix that converted an image of your choice into character html using the characters of the users choice.
The file I have on my server is dated by Quentin at July 17, 2000. The actual file date on my server is dated December 16, 2003.
I have no idea how similar this is to your program, but is the first time I have ran across anything similar :)
Can't wait til your server comes up though, I'd like to embed ascii art into .nfo files quickly , lol - Tinka, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1 There's a better program, you can resize the pic and use any characters you want.You can even use a couple of paragraphs, like a poem or your bio info if you want. It makes a true html page.
