- shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16finally, ultra-porn fed straight into my desktop wallpaper. way to take out the middleman google :)
- ionut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You need .NET Framework (2.0 I suppose):

A suggestion: On the homepage of the site, have a countdown timer to when the coding/chat starts. E.g 4 hours and 25 minutes, as users are in many differernt parts of the world. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yea I was going to say that but they won't be back. They're idiots, and if they can't figure it out w/e.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is it sad that those were my keywords? :(
Suggestions:
No duplicate wallpapers. - Xilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Windows only :(... An open source app written in .net just for Windows. It kills me.
- anonatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2there is a screen saver similar to this included with gentoo, I had to limit it quite a bit to get it to STOP displaying porn at work.
- Locuester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2First off, I'll never turn on active desktop. That's insane. Talk about using a hammer to break an egg.
Secondly, sure it could be done in 30 different languages. This is what I chose for various reasons. Many of those reasons can be found on my blog. Feel free to read it if you have the time.

- SuperCujo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Preferred image resolution would be good too...
Some of the images warp really bad to fit the screen. - sleazy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is a great app. A friend of mine made a program similar to this that uses Google images to make a slideshow screen saver. It's called ziggysaver and you can get it from the second program down the list on: http://www.ziggyware.com/downloads.php?cat_id=2

Wow! Get over it and enjoy. If you don't like it move on. Port the damn thing to ruby if you'd like.
There was no "problem" I was trying to solve. I'm just having a good time writing apps for everyone to enjoy. - Locuester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thanks!
- d3faultnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1agreed.
but I'll tell you why you need .Net, it's because whoever wrote this (simple) app can't code in anything else....
C# is still better than Visual Basic though, so you gotta give him credit for that... - tgiles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow.
I wrote a shell script years ago that did just this. It would pick out a random word from the dictionary, make a Google query (this was just after Google images came out, if I remember correctly), grab a random image URL from the page results and then update the background photo.
Pretty neato hack. Lost the code years ago, unfortunately. Shouldn't be all that hard to rewrite, however. - yogastore, on 06/30/2008, -0/+0http://astore.amazon.com/la.crosse.atomic.clock-20

Give me reasons why instead of just saying it. Next time shut the ***** up? Sick of you 12 year old skiddies who think MS bashing is still cool. - jonericwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It amazes me that people would take the time to criticize someone for writing free software. Let alone criticize someone who is writing an app a day for 30 days. I would suggest the critics invest their time in fixing the issues that they see if any.

sorry, but i think you're missing my point, ooorrrrr the reasons for choosing c# .net to program your app were bogus.
first off, programming your app in .net limits all potential users to windows or a moded version of linux (mono).
secondly, you've chosen a windows solution to your problem, ie accessing the windows api.
thirdly, your solution/implementation to the problem was more complex than it needed to be.
by choosing to do it with javascript and html you would award yourself an ubiquitous solution to the problem. nearly any environment, be it unix, linux, mac, or pc offers the ability to run both technologies via a web browser. Without researching, I am very confident that each of the aforementioned environments offer a way to display webpages (thus html and javascript) on the desktop. I'm sure you could even find a way to do it on windows without active desktop. (but active desktop is not insane. your comment was foolish and you didn't back it up with any reasoning)
as a programmer, i look for the easiest solution to my problem. then i look for ubiquity, followed by a dash of innovation and a pinch of creativity. With those in mind, I find the right language/solution to the problem. I think that you probably came into it with the preconceived notion that it had to be done in .net, and thus used a hammer to crack an egg, and now you can only cook the egg on a windows system running the .net framework.
with that said, i think the code to your program looked pretty decent.
you should take it a step further and display time lapse videos on the desktop (an idea i had a while ago, to which the solution was a webpage on the desktop)
wouldn't it be cool to see clouds flying by on your desktop?
anyways, please don't take any of my comments as a diss, just some constructive criticism (if there is such a thing) - jasonmcaffee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hate to be critical here but...
why do you need a .net application to do this?
I think they've used a hammer to break an egg.
This can easily be done with active desktop, a local html file, and some javascript. - piesforyou, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1application failed to initialise properly....
What you get when you code it in 2.5 hours I guess.
