- zediker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't like Lots of Irritating Silly Parentheses....
- weiran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Free is free. Downloaded as I might need it later, although i doubt it.
- LTrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ugh, I'd rather be kicked in the nuts repeatedly for a week straight than code in Lisp ever again. Still, free is free.
- msabramo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I second the recommendation of "Practical Common Lisp" - I read most of it and found it to be excellent.
http://www.gigamonkeys.com/book/ - adizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lisp is cool
- arrrrrg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oldie but goodie. This book is a great resource for really understanding how Lisp macros work (one of the features that really makes Lisp unique).
And to all you naysayers, an obligatory quote:
"Pascal[, C++, Java, etc are] for building pyramids -- imposing, breathtaking structures built by armies pushing heavy blocks into place. Lisp is for building organisms ..." -Alan Perlis - FilCab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lisp is great! And this book has been around (in (free) PDF form) on Paul Graham's site for a long while.
But! This book is NOT for begginers, this is about the more advanced stuff on lisp (macros and stuff). If you want one for beginners I suggest ANSI Common Lisp (also from Paul Graham).
It's an oldie, but I digg it for lisp. - monolith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cisp is lool!
- ravuya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool, though I'd prefer a print version. Been using Common LISP for years, and I'm still surprised at how many people have never given it a chance.
- billbradford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've got a bunch more Lisp and Scheme books online:
http://www.lispmachine.net - wobuzhudao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is an excellent book.
As filcab said, it has been free for a while already. I too digg it because it is Lisp, and Lisp is what the Matrix is coded in. - DannoHung, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Practical Common Lisp is supposedly the best book for learning Lisp in such a way that you don't hate it coming from a language that you're very productive in.
But now that someone's mentioned that this book is really about Lisp Macros, my interest is piqued, since that's why I'm really interseted in Lisp right now (I've learned most of the other functional programming techniques, I think). Dugg. - madformadness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0sink about the tink
