- aquax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So according to his blog, which is probably using his code, a 'related article' to an article consisting of some PHP code, and some explanation, are
"The benefits of meditation
How to improve your memory
How your thoughts create your reality
Dell delays release of 3Q profit results
RealTravel helps you plan your vacation effectivly
Is free speech in trouble again?
Why you will always be stressed"
Something about the relevance of those 'related articles' just doesn't make me want to use his code. - cinnix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4or just install the wasabi related articles plugin for wp. because as demonstrated on his site, his "related articles" aren't related in any way whatsoever.

Ideally what you want to use is the TF-IDF score of every word in the document, and compare that to the TF-IDF score of words in other documents, resulting on "matches". Then you can calculate a statistical probability of two documents being "related".
More info on TF-IDF on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tf-idf - spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4direct link to source code: http://youneed2see.com/blogrel.txt
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3WordPress has a plugin for this.
- sachmanb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A like statement! Brilliant :P (sarcastic) .... for tomorrow's lesson: What's a primary key? There should be a section called "Programming for people too lazy to learn programming"
- democracysucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Next up (hopefully):
How to make a non-craptastic site design. - tinahdee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's a link to the Wordpress plugin. It works great.

- Scruffydan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That link does not work
- vanadium77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or..you could just categorize the articles well enough to begin with and pull up a random three to five from within a specific date range (like, from the last 14 days).
The dugg solution seems overly convoluted and prone to erratic results. - FairlyStupid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Related articles" can be done easier by use of tags when the blogger makes the posting. Tag matches from the DB can present related stuff, based on percentage match of tags.
- amellie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the correct one is: http://wasabi.pbwiki.com/Related%20Entries
- resplence, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Most blog CMSs do. I think this would be useful for Blogger blogs, which apparently lack this functionality, but you're not granted database access.
This is more of a coding exercise than really useful for the public. - FairlyStupid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2What WOULD be interesting is for some people here (or on another site) collaborate to figure out how the big sites (like YouTube) do this "related [videos/articles" thing. Whenever i read these kind of articles, i always wonder how the big sites do it, as opposed to some basic code that anyone can read.
- FairlyStupid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2:) yeah, i'm just reminded http://NobodyReadsYourStupidBlog.com
- h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Awww aren't the little emo kids so cute? They're so talented they can even multitask! They're crying and rating my comment down at the same time!
- mrblack, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Sigh .... relying on code to create a related articles list.
- bugzer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1what's the name of the plugin? I've googled but can't find one.
- h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Awww, the kiddies are rating me down because I talked bad about their little blogs. How cute.
One day hopefully they'll find a better use of their time. Like suicide. - h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2"Bloggers" need to wake up and face reality. Nobody reads your blog but you and your mother. If you're too stupid to properly code a website, nobody cares what you have to say.
