Now with the API their are terms of usage which would make the sites legal. Please do not lecture me on law. I've hacked my TiVO, but the difference is I paid for it, and it is physically in my possession, you didn't pay for Google Maps and I'm sure the old terms of use did not allow for the hacking.
- dazzed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha, there is always a catch.
- gunnmjk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Huh? "Google retains the right to put advertising on the map in the future."
- anakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At least there is support from Google now too :)
- spadin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So i guess all those sites that have a hack for google maps might have to be remade... Atleast it's legal now.
- LeegleechN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They do have to make money folks.
- djspike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im an idot... what's an "API"...
- PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@spadin: So you saw the word "hack" and your kneejerk reaction was "illegal"? Sheesh, if you've been following Google at all these past few months, you'd know that the folks at Google actually approved of the so-called hacks because they raised awareness of Google Maps' versatility. I can hack a Tivo, but does that mean I'm doing something illegal? Heck no! Does it void my warranty? Who cares! XD
- bdee1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ok so does anybody know where i can get a ColdFusion Custom tag or CFC or something which makes use of this?
- whackaxe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0aww, wtf, "For instance, we do not want to see maps that identify the places to buy illegal drugs in a city, or any similar illegal activity."
I don't think any drug dealers would like their where abouts lingering around on the net, and I'm more scared of them than google! - kobs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_programming_interface
