- golddigga, on 10/11/2007, -4/+33doesn't really work for me. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/204/504307895_8ed2fefa8c_o.png
- markdr123, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23Yeah, everything is "preview unavailable at this time" now.
Shame. - Ramzy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22Pretty cool.
Looks like it's missing a plugin :P

- knapper, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Damn it, and I wanted to say "OH SNAP!"
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18because its a heavy increase in bandwidth, all of the sudden (digg effect) ?
- intilli4, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Very cool api usage. Dugg for creativity.
- netdroid9, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11NFSW? Not for safe work? Well, I am kinda risking RSI...
- hartw, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Well, crap. This is actually fairly ironic. I created this mashup for the digg api contest, and didn't really intend for anybody to see it before the finalists were released. I did send it over to snap.com to look at and warn them that they might be experiencing heavy traffic if it made it to that stage in the contest. Then snap.com went and blogged about it, which eventually led to somebody on digg discovering and posting it. In fewer words, I think snap.com just dugg their own grave. Oh well, hopefully it will be working by the time of the contest : )
- oyayubizoku, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Heya Hart,
Apparently due to the posting via DIGG and of all diggers visiting the mashup SWF, bandwidth allocation was exceeded. I have alerted the folks over here so it will work properly from now on. Keep your eyes peeled for the fix shortly. Thanks again for your creativity and innovative use of Snap...

I have since reset the bandwidth for this app and so it will work properly from now on. Thanks!

www.Snap.com - Rozza, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8the previews dont work! otherwise this would look awsome!
- micro506, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I just buried your story as spam.
- Konstantino, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5The idea is pretty cool, but so far every time I've used it I just get a bunch of thumbnails saying Snap's preview is unavailable. That's not so hot.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Why would snap.com get pissed?
- Adamok, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Previews and links working again. Interesting.
- raindogmx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3When we had finally found a good use for otherwise useless and ***** snap previews
- ninetyone, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3It's pretty damn cool, but yeah, I think snap are on to it :p
How many more are there like this :D - kday, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Heh, at first I thought this was done in javascript, and I was like holy crap, that must have been a javascript nightmare.
Then, I viewed the source to discover that it was just flash.
Damn cheaters! (JK) - youdaman, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2I like snap a lot, used to use it on my site, but then it became buggy. I think it is something to do with my theme
http://www.brandonadcock.com - SamKellett, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4The higher dugg stories should be bigger thumbnails and vice versa.
- grinndaddy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Pretty, but essentially useless. Sorry.
- EricJD, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4"Preview unavailable at this time."
- Rileyper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I had the same problems til i allowed scripts
- noisuf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1pretty cool.
- bacchus101, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Awesome! I actually am bookmarking this page. I can see what is coming up and weed out articles based on poor web design...
- hartw, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2thanks to the snap.com team for their quick help resolving the issue :)
- smythejr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I like snap. that so...
- smartgadgets, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I've been using Snap for while, don't have any problem.
- Markster, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Works Great!
- tortan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If, when you clicked on the thumbnails, the site would open in a lightbox - that would be neat.
- MrBabyMan, on 10/11/2007, -8/+9Usage: CLICK on the linked images to go to the Web Pages -OR- CNTRL CLICK to go to the articles posted on DIGG. Sort the posts and change the design layout via pulldown menus.

http://blog.snap.com/2007/05/18/digg-expose-digg-snap-preview-shots/ - spyrochaete, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Blah, really?
My reasoning for using it is that I link to many sources in any one article. I figure a little preview might help people glance at a page even if they don't intend to visit it, but the vast majority of sites do not use previews so it's unexpected and perhaps an unwelcome surprise.
I might just get rid of it. Thanks for your help, guys. - Contrid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Nice. Great job!
- drjasonclark, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0superb
- keizersclinic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1wish they had a sort function or viewable by digg catagory.
- billwbateman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Seems it doesn't always work, also remember it could be a browser problem. Also snap has to cache previews before it can display them, and that is individually handled based on what is in your browser cache.
- jamesplato, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1this is a great use of Snap!
for yallways, there is an option at snap.com to turn off previews for your visitors at their request. I have it working on one of my sites with that option. They just click disable. - gavanw, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Looks great...this should be good exposure for Snap.com too.
- newsaddicted, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1This is indeed a great way of showing diggs, but will be more valuable for sites/links which have images rather than plain text links.
- tmcgove, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Works great for me too!
- vango, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2whoa that is cool
- Astronick, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4I'm getting the same - has the Digg effect killed Snap, or has Snap denied Digg?
- Kickersny, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3I personally find them annoying. I don't care what a website looks like; I care about its content.
- yallways, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Yah I thought it was cool at first too until I realized that the more links you have on your website, the more annoying this gets for users. I had complaints on my website from users to take the preview off because they had these little images popping up all over the place just because they moved their cursor around when reading. I guess it's okay for small sites with just a few links on it but then again, it didn't even seem to work on some links. If you have alot of links (eg www.yallways.com) then don't use this. But consider using it for sites with icons for link (eg www.mydawsonsprings.com) for a more interactive effect.
Due to the large amount of complaints I got when using this, I cannot digg it. As a matter of fact, I'm still trying to figure out how to get off their darn mailing list. What started out as a neat service turned into a spamming nightmare. - Serr8d, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I use the thing, I suppose that it's OK, for people who don't have Cooliris.
However, if you use Mozilla, and have the Cooiris Previews extension installed, you can get a preview of any web page from anywhere, and Cooliris uses a much bigger preview window. Now that's an amazing tool. And you carry it with you.
http://www.cooliris.com/Site/index.html - andrewcod, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Interesting - they just sent out an email to everyone using snap on their site:
Dear Website Owner,
This is a special, urgent request to ask you to pour gasoline on a fire.
A few days ago, a programmer contacted Snap about using Snap Shots in a Digg.com mashup. Naturally, we said yes and then did a blogpost because we thought his work was so original and exciting.
Apparently, everyone else agreed.
Currently, that blogpost has registered over 1100 Diggs and has made Snap one of the top stories of the day. Please, please, please read the post and, if you're so inclined, Digg it.
Meanwhile, the site, Digg Expose, is showing about 100 Snap Shots every second and is responsible for making today the most heavily trafficked day in our history.
Lastly, if you're as excited by Digg Expose and the number of Diggs our blog post has received, please post about it on your site, tell your friends, get the word out.
Every additional Digg and every additional post about this story adds gasoline to a fire that is absolutely raging.
Thank you so much for your support,
Team Snap -
