- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+13I love a bit of microcontroller geekery in the morning :)
- Tantalon, on 04/06/2009, -0/+10It's cool, but I'd rather have an LED display.

- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -1/+4I am trying to understand just what one would do with this device? I get the DIY part, and I understand its features. I can't see a practical purpose for this, however. Would someone enlighten me?
- maxino, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3DIY and Open Source..... Do you know what this means?
- cdawzrd, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3You could use it to cheaply create "smart devices" in a networked environment. You can get one of these PIC-based web servers instead of needing to have a "real" computer near the device to be networked, and suddenly your laundry / toaster / doorbell is on your network.
- DelMonte, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3Wow, this is on the front-page of digg?
This must be a mistake, this story was supposed to be a picture of a mountain goat! /s
Seriously, I miss the old digg, when things like this were commonly found on the front-page... - Sendai129, on 04/06/2009, -0/+242 Euro for that display?! I got a bigger one here in my room that i only paid 20$ CAN for... I picked it up from a local electronics store. And if you have a bit of extra time I'm sure you can build the FTPmicro yourself for a LOT cheaper than 69 Euro. If you buy the parts smart you could build this thing for no more than 50$ CAN
- Barackalypse, on 04/06/2009, -3/+5Why spend 69 Euro on the FTPmicro and then 42 Euro on some tiny 80 character LCD display (total cost $150 USD plus shipping) when you can buy a netbook with 9" LCD for $179.99?

- maxino, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1Open Source and Cool! This is the NEW Arduino!!
- Barackalypse, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1I'd rather have a Netbook or Windows Mobile phone. That FTPMicro is 69 Euro ($92) and shipping is another 20 Euro just within the EU.

- N256, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1"FTPmicro is a small embedded web server as big as a package DIP40, based on the PIC18F67J60."
PICduino?? - acknotSW, on 04/06/2009, -0/+0Very cool, I'm going to have to play aorund with one of these soon.
- mushoo, on 04/06/2009, -1/+1The man has a point, why digg him down?
The price kills it.
I get the diy aspect of this project but for a bit more cash you get a more than you could get a better looking, more versatile reader that could do lots more. Just gut the eeepc stick it on a frame, hang it up on the wall, add it to your network, control it with a wireless keyboard or a wiimote, and have it not only giving you feeds but, streaming music/tv, weather, etc. - zraken, on 04/07/2009, -0/+0It is a bit confusing to read the description. Not clear if you need a programmer as well or if the compiled program can be loaded on the SD card. If you need a programmer then that adds to the cost.
- FuzzplugJones, on 04/06/2009, -2/+1Watch Apple add a flashy GUI and a hip plastic case and sell it for $3,700.
