- ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wasn't aware this this was used as anything except a True/False algorithm. In other words, does it matter if it can detect single digit transpositions and not more? In the context of a Luhn check, a card number is either entirely valid or entirely invalid isn't it?
- ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I completely mis-read your assertion. I understood you to mean that the algorithm could detect if you transposed 1 number but not if you transposed 2 numbers (not number positions in the string). I took that to mean that the algorithm could provide an "error output" saying "You got a number wrong" but could only do this for 1 bad value, not 1+n. I understand what you are saying now. Thanks for the clarification.
- gaetanocaruana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It does matter ArchieAndrews since if one is typing a credit card number and she transposes a number by two places it would not be detected ;-) try the algorithm out!
- zepezuna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is really interesting !! well done !! i will definately try this out !!
- gaetanocaruana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0welcome zepezuna;-)
- gaetanocaruana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no problem at all :-)
- giantnegro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the time killer; I just wrote a matlab function to check credit card numbers. Now that's going in my usless functions folder.
- amytal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very interesting.
- giantnegro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wonderful. Since I have a card number validity checker I just had to go and write a valid card number generator. I have no self control.
