- SamSks, on 06/14/2009, -5/+58I put EVERYTHING in tables!
My evil knows no bounds!
Bwahahahahahahahhahhahahahahahaha! - TaintBrush, on 06/14/2009, -1/+44I don't know how you could mess up Helvetica, but there it is.
(And people can't remember that stuff?!) - wush, on 06/14/2009, -2/+40So I guess people namedrop Helvetica to give the impression that they know design?
- chetchez, on 06/14/2009, -1/+15Buried. I need it in Comic Sans.
- YouAreDead, on 06/14/2009, -2/+15crap
- scubachef11, on 06/14/2009, -2/+15Oh cool a helpful sheet made by someone who has no idea how to make proper wallpapers.
- victorycig, on 06/14/2009, -1/+11Nor very helpful.
- zantos420, on 06/15/2009, -0/+7may death come quick and swiftly for you
- lcmatt, on 06/14/2009, -4/+11Yet another cheat sheet to go along with millions of others already available.
- DaemonNivas, on 06/14/2009, -2/+9All this cheatsheet needs now are some good informations, followed by good design, topped by using Helvetica properly.
Wait... - bapwa, on 06/14/2009, -4/+11Here's a person that creates something he finds useful, and not only does he share the output, but shares the source as well.
Thank you for sharing your work. Nicely done. - MacHarborGuy, on 06/14/2009, -2/+8hmmm, you know, it's a nice idea, but having text on a wallpaper clashes with the text labels of icons on the desktop...
- opitica, on 06/14/2009, -1/+6finally someone with some common sense!
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 06/14/2009, -3/+8This one is much better, in my opinion: http://www.addedbytes.com/cheat-sheets/css-cheat-s ...
- MacHarborGuy, on 06/15/2009, -0/+5yes, it's called "quick easy access that doesn't require spotlight, quicksilver, start menu search, or whatever else to things I am recently been working on."
the OS allows me to have icons there, so why not use it. Every few days I toss them into a folder and put that on an external drive and start the week a new.
you see, I am not one of those people with a whole desktop full of icons, maybe 2 columns at most (on a 1680x1050 screen), nor am I one of those people that treats an icon'd desktop like vampires treat sunlight. - Benno, on 06/14/2009, -0/+5brief critique:
1. Repeating font and text with identical content is redundant.
2. The label/definition structure is hard to read. On something intended to be a quick reference legibility should trump design concerns. Left-justifying might help; as would reconsidering the labels being higher than the definitions.
3. The content is missing the parts of css that are actually somewhat hard to memorize for beginers, such as "top right bottom left" and an example of a complete shorthand background declaration. If somebody can't remember #id vs .class they have no hope of remembering that font-size:62.5%; resets 1em to 10px and other such "complexities". - LoungeActx, on 06/14/2009, -0/+5It's not even in Helvetica! It may be in Helvetica Neue or some other condensed form, but definitely not traditional Helvetica
- Fordi, on 06/14/2009, -1/+5It's a CSS cheat cheet. Why the font is meant to be important is beyond me; it could be in courier for all I care, as long as it's a handy reference.
Mind you, I find it incredibly amusing that this type nerd thinks CSS is considered "development". - tgc1, on 06/14/2009, -0/+4I drop Comic Sans myself. Seems to get an odd look from people. Hahahaha. Then again, I design all my templates in crayon first. I'm a hit at meetings.
- GavinZac, on 06/15/2009, -1/+5DHTML? Is this 1998?
- johnnysaucepn, on 06/14/2009, -1/+5He didn't design it to be printed, he designed it for desktop wallpaper - which you want to be in neutral tones so that your icons still contrast against it.
- ultrafez, on 06/14/2009, -1/+5Use a proper text editor. That way, you will learn more and know your site inside out. Also, you'll get a better sense of satisfaction.
- styletime, on 06/14/2009, -3/+6Thank you!
- rossisdead, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3My cheat sheet is a solid IDE. That and if you need a cheat sheet to remember what margin, padding, or other basic things are, you may need some serious help.
- fxu1989, on 06/14/2009, -1/+4I prefer it in *twitch* Papyrus.
Ok, I lied. I don't. - rmmcclay, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3Poor choice of font. That's more like a condensed version of the font.
- factsahoy, on 06/14/2009, -1/+4Really weak spam! You're welcome.
- AmusedToDeath, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3Somebody needs to send a copy of this to the Internet Explorer development team.
- jacobo, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2logos created with helvetica.... better http://jacovox.com/2009/06/40-logos-creados-con-he ...
- sfcaptainrob, on 06/14/2009, -0/+2Would have been too bright then.
- styletime, on 06/14/2009, -2/+4man i thought i was the only cheat sheet wallpaper is there more? ;)
- Fordi, on 06/14/2009, -2/+4(being more of a dick)
Further, this idiot made the damned thing in off-grays, almost guaranteeing that it will be unreadable on cheap laser printers - the staple cheat-sheet and manual output device for your average developer (economical on toner, and fast. Kick out an API reference for a couple cents and a few minutes).
Part of design is knowing your audience. This douche don't. - zantos420, on 06/15/2009, -0/+24. no browser compatibility notes
- wush, on 06/14/2009, -0/+2Apologies - I am unnecessarily snarky
- mhuggins, on 06/14/2009, -0/+2Terribly designed site, I can't even find a link to the full sized image.
Edit: I realized there is a link, but the page is designed such that there is no scrollbar, and I can't scroll down to get to it. Now I definitely don't want a CSS cheatsheet by someone who can't use CSS properly. - FluffyArmada, on 06/14/2009, -0/+2@ Sunscreen : I think Arial was supposed to be designed to be very similar to helvetica. I'm not a type-nerd though, so I'm uncertain.
EDIT: Upon further reading, I guess Arial is variation on "Monotype Grotesque", but it's also supposed to be very similar to "Linotype Helvetica"... sigh... oh well. - dextermanas, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1That still doesn't justify it's usage. Why wouldn't someone just make a small and simple image instead? That doesn't take much time and would work across more browsers/devices.
- renanrrinaldi, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1That's what she said.
- srobertson203, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1The text is being generated using sIFR, which uses Flash and allows you to use non-standard fonts for headers and whatnot: http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/sifr/
I'm personally not that big a fan of it because of the amount of tweaking it sometimes requires to be cross-browser compatible, but for simple things like headers, it's alright. - factsahoy, on 06/14/2009, -1/+2Why don't you shove your spam?
- petemorley, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1SiFR re-renders specific tags using flash, eg, all your heading tags can be rendered, sitewide in a non-standard font. This keeps things SEO friendly.
- TyIzaeL, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1I have two tips that should have made the list:
1. Use the font rule as shorthand for the many font* properties.
http://www.w3schools.com/css/pr_font_font.asp
2. There are many more selectors than those listed on the wallpaper--I find this disappointing, as I reference these most often. You can do all sorts of nifty stuff using these selectors.
http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/selector.html
Also, I prefer HTML "cheat sheets", having text on a wallpaper is annoying. - gmiley, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1Oh my, how witty you are! The book has been updated with new editions over the years, and still contains references for CSS, DOM, XHTML, HTML and JavaScript. So, make fun of it all you want, but it still serves its purpose as a reference guide.
- gerryk, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1Ok, helvetica is the base typeface... subtypes include bold, light, thin, condensed, etc etc etc...
- mrBitch, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1even better :
http://www.webdesign-guru.co.uk/icon/web-wallpaper ... - Elranzer, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1You don't really need to torrent it. Just plug in a working serial to the official demo.
- flash_jordan, on 06/14/2009, -0/+1Something titled with such a solid font shouldn't be so ugly. :( I was hoping this would be cool but they managed to mess it up.
- styletime, on 06/14/2009, -1/+2Some great comments very helpful for me, hopefully I have implemented some changes that make it better to read and the layout is a bit better? also linked up the main image and post image to the actual jpg file.
mhuggins: not sure what the problem is for you but works in all browsers i have fine...
yes the font is Helvetica Neue not Helvetica no it doesn't matter a damn!
Hopefully the next will be better in all aspects because of your feedback, Thanks All! - dextermanas, on 06/14/2009, -0/+1Why is the title "CSS Cheat Sheet Wallpaper in Helvetica" done in Flash? :S
