- pleeker, on 11/07/2007, -1/+14Yeah, but, who wants to be the next MySpace? That's like wanting to be the next K-Mart.
- sockpuppets, on 11/09/2007, -1/+9I'm starting sockdrawer.com, a place where puppets like me can come together and pretend to like one another.
- etnu, on 11/07/2007, -2/+7I can't WAIT until Google is a big, multi-billion dollar company with thousands of employees and massive global influence!
- etnu, on 11/11/2007, -0/+4And most of those people don't use the Internet -- what's your point? People in India don't know or care what Verizon is, but they're still a big and important company.
Anyone who thinks that an industry needs have significant share of the total world population to matter is clueless about how the world works. 100 million people is a HUGE customer base -- but it only represents 2% of the world's population.
That being said, most people in the social networking industry (or "tech industry" in general) probably have at least heard of OpenSocial, and those are the only people who should care in the first place. It doesn't mean jack ***** if ordinary people know what OpenSocial is in the same way that it doesn't matter if they know what HTTP or HTML are. Products will simply get better and they'll be ignorant as to why -- as it should be. Do most people know how fuel injection works? How about light bulbs? Do you even know how drywall is made? These are things we have and use every day, and they're important. - ikamos, on 11/07/2007, -0/+4You're right. Since they're only the 5th biggest company, Google at $700/share is "ABOUT to break huge".
- kitsched, on 11/07/2007, -0/+3Inaccurate indeed. While it's a nice tutorial to set up your own social network using Elgg, it has nothing to do with the Open Social initiative recently launched by Google. Too bad.
- atozand1to10, on 11/07/2007, -1/+3Or even OpenSocial.
Dugg!! (By mistake, Must.... Read..... Article..... before digging) - ikamos, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2Agreed with plarp above. I could not find a single mention of Google in the article. Buried as inaccurate.
- mediaspree, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2too bad nobody over 35 (outside the digg/IT realm) knows WTF all this means.
- positr0n, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2This has nothing to do with Google or Open Social.... buried as Inaccurate
- dreicher, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2The page does indeed have the words "Google", "Open" and "Social" all on it...but that's about it. Buried as Lame and Inaccurate.
- john2kx, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2solution: surprise sex.
- MattCruikshank, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1Because Digg doesn't have a button that says, "Wow, if true this is something I want to look into more, but right now I don't have the time to read the article. Also, the front page flies by so quickly, and the search SUCKS so hard that the only way I can keep track of this link is to use some form of web-based bookmarking system... perhaps... Digg."
If Digg had a button "Seriously?!?" then I'd click that, and then later when I had the time, I'd Digg or Bury. - cfuse, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1I don't have any problem with selling my soul as long as the price is right.
- TheSalmonThief, on 11/07/2007, -1/+2...Where am I?
- mbup, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1Solution: Digg.
- fastfastlane, on 11/08/2007, -4/+5Hahaha, "they do great underpants' ... as long as no women to see them :P
- pengas, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1This post has nothing to do with the title.. buried.
I don't understand why it has been dugg 384 times so far...
could it be that digg is full of idiots? - emptyparadigm, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1Buried for being stupid. Who in their right mind thinks some open source platform they found about on a social news site is going to provide them with what it takes to provide a social network that more than a handful of people would give a crap about?
- CChandler2423, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1No offense, but I know of a few websites that use Opensource software pulling in 10k-20k a month..which is not great, but not bad either.
- CChandler2423, on 11/07/2007, -1/+1Drupal owns Elgg,as long as you're willing to learn a little PHP/CSS.
- iericg, on 11/07/2007, -1/+1I suppose forums are so old school... now it's all about having your own social network. It's great but I give it no more than two years before the next wave of networking pops up.
- chabotc, on 11/07/2007, -0/+0Completely inaccurate. Elgg is an open source, social site system (which admittedly is a cool thing). However according to their developer discussions, the Open Social API implementation is just purely in the conceptual faze:

So the headline of this story is very misleading - madmonkey300, on 11/07/2007, -0/+0This has nothing to do with the Google

- Lyndoman, on 11/07/2007, -7/+5Don't knock K-Mart, they do great underpants ;)
- ghineman, on 11/07/2007, -3/+1LOL, the biggest advantage is absolute control! We all know how well it goes when founders maintain absolute control over a social site. Just ask Wal-Mart.
- azaah, on 11/07/2007, -5/+1Google: Welcome to the Social.

What is Digg?
