- clintonforbes, on 03/19/2008, -4/+51"Validate design in alternative browsers. " Yeah, that's a five-minute fix if I ever saw one. This article is total crap.
- GeorgeStone2, on 03/19/2008, -1/+45Sure, 101 five-minute fixes doesn't seem like much.
But that's 8 and a half hours. - FaithclubDotNet, on 03/19/2008, -0/+43Good suggestion A++++ Will Digg again
- anteyekon4myst, on 03/19/2008, -1/+41101 Five minute fixes....that's probably what they had to do with all those dalmations
- ardnut, on 03/19/2008, -0/+25Step 1) Don't use really bright, burn your eyes out, colours like red all over your page.
- Satanael, on 03/19/2008, -2/+27Add a hit counter that counts non-unique hits, then just refresh your page all day. People will think you're super popular and be forced to love your website!
- ModernDayDarwin, on 03/19/2008, -0/+15I have to agree that this article is total crap. Under the section of "accessibility" it lists "create accessible forms" as a 5 minute task. Anyone that's tried to make a website 508 compliant knows this is more like a 5 week task than a 5 month task, and 508 compliance is a rather poor excuse for accessible. There's so many flaws in this article it's not even funny.
- loopis, on 03/19/2008, -0/+15if your site needs needs attention in all 101 of those areas you may want to consider a different hobby.
- WomensUnderwear, on 03/19/2008, -0/+13five minutes? for some of these tasks? are these "vista minutes"?
- clintonforbes, on 03/19/2008, -6/+18In future, please put a space in ALOT to form 'a lot'. Thanks.
- Bukowsky, on 03/19/2008, -3/+15I personally know ALOT of developers that would benefit from this article.
- gegroff, on 03/19/2008, -0/+12Dugg for putting all 101 on a single page, and not some 10 page ***** of ads.
- Vindexus, on 03/19/2008, -0/+10Instead of office chair package contained bob cat. Would not buy again.
- MacTyler, on 03/19/2008, -0/+9(-) never received item, seller did not respond to numerous emails. Do not buy from!
- sarixe, on 03/19/2008, -0/+8that's what the thumbs up button is for
- coldcoffee, on 03/19/2008, -0/+7insidecrm.com - Please eat own dog food.
- Narcism, on 03/19/2008, -0/+78 hours 25 minutes.
- smackafiyah, on 03/19/2008, -1/+7Though not accurate on the timeframe to fix a website, still dugg for a helpful resource
- SomeImagination, on 03/19/2008, -0/+6Most of these would take a lot longer than five minutes to do properly
- strictnein, on 03/19/2008, -0/+5Mathletes in the Special Olympics maybe.
- tazdo0d, on 03/19/2008, -0/+5I love how "Pay Taxes" is number 96... Could take a while to get to it incrementally! Whoops!
- loopis, on 03/19/2008, -0/+5A lot of mathletes on this post, i think we have this covered now thanks.
- qber, on 03/19/2008, -0/+4How did you end up with an answer ending in 42 minutes even when you know you're counting in increments of 5 minutes??
- svivian, on 03/19/2008, -0/+4*incremental
If you're going to SHOUT words in capitals, at least spell them correctly. - lecor, on 03/19/2008, -1/+5What is up with all the hate? I thought it was a good list... and yes, some do require more than 5 minutes... but no need to call on the National Web Developers Guard!
- JuggleNuts, on 03/19/2008, -1/+550. Fix broken links. Don't send search engines and users down dead ends. Clean up links for better search-engine optimization and usability.
Ironically, the article link in this point is broken. - blitzkriegpunk, on 03/19/2008, -0/+4wakka, wakka, wakka!
- mikehill33, on 03/19/2008, -0/+4102: don't look at CRM to improve your site.
- ModernDayDarwin, on 03/19/2008, -1/+4No, some of it's just downright wrong. Others don't have anything to do with improving your web page. "Pay your taxes" for example.
- ggacid, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3When it comes to time, try using the remainder as opposed to what your calculator states. ".416" of 60 is 24.999 (25 mins)
- Sinudeity, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3So basically...
The 8 hour guide to fixing your website. - robbob, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3all in a day's work
- strictnein, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3customer retention method?
CRM = customer relationship management - svivian, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3Who uses decimals for time?
- Starfinder, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2Yeah. I'm not quite sure I can agree with all of that. It has some good points, but the actual solutions to some of the issues with web designing is not really usable in my opinion.
IE: "Slow down the technology. Although you may have state-of-the-art computers, many of your visitors don't. Get rid of memory-hogging technologies like Java Script. "
So have a clean interface with few possibilities as it also mentions, yet we can have no Ajax to show content dynamically. Am I the only one who think those points cant be read as a whole, but "single pointers" pulled together from other sites? - scottschiller, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2This is good stuff also. While the URL being dugg is on copywriting and presentational things, etc. The Yahoo! article is on performance tuning (serving content faster), which is also quite important. (Disclaimer: I work for Yahoo!)
- sammydeath, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2i think this should be renamed to "101 fixes that takes 5 minutes to read"
Theres some good advice that would take alot longer than 5 mins each and also if you followed every tip, your end website would be so plain and boring in the end. Fair enough for the accessability points but still abit of customisation wont hurt. - mnugent, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2it's just a pity there isn't more common sense out there!
- bluezombie, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2102. Do not obstruct your content with ads that hover or unscroll or perform other cutsie but annoying tricks.
- oddmanout, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2One day's worth of work doesn't seem so bad to me.
- davey3598, on 03/19/2008, -2/+4mostly common sense but some good advice there.
- ireland88, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2Flash sites do take to much time to load but when they work they really do add an impressive design element to your site.
- strictnein, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2Better advice from yahoo:
http://developer.yahoo.net/blog/archives/2008/03/y ... - 4rp4n3t, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2> Suddenly this doesn't seem so quick.
Yeah - a whole DAY! - brianegge, on 03/19/2008, -1/+3Paying taxes is a good five minute activity which all web masters should consider doing.
- Narcism, on 03/19/2008, -0/+28 hours 25 minutes.
- purplehaze420, on 03/19/2008, -1/+3Thats why it's INCRIMENTAL
- inactive, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2i think its saying check if it looks right, but don't fix it because that will take more than 5 mins.
- myochauhtun, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Too much links and take so much time to see. Anyway.
